Targeting was designed to rule out the extreme hits, not the incidental contact or ticky-tacky stuff. That the media and former players and officials don’t know the rules, is pretty unlikely. All this shit is just manufactured controversy. Just like they do with Texas QB situations (is it time for the back up?) every year.

Heck today, I saw discussions about the Georgia sideline penalty and they were acting like this was a first time issue for Georgia to do this.

Maybe if the SEC would actually enforce the rules against UGA they would have not done it. Kind of reminds me how B12 used to allow TTU and OU get away with so much holding that they thought it was normal and outside of conference officiating their offenses could sputter out due to never having been forced to do their job correctly.

Kirby is out there all the time.  Still, I've never seen a penalty on it.  I've seen lots of warning penalty flags.  But they rarely do a 2nd one for the penalty yards.  The guy just had a foot in the white.  The only reason the ref called the penalty instead of the warning is because he was ticked.  You could see he was furious.

Ok, so we need to move past mere Targeting. Already saw a call for Attempted Targeting and Negligent Targeting, along with Targeting With Intent to Distribute. Miz Long, in her never-ending quest to bring greater administrative rules perfection to football, believes we need the addition of Aggravated Targeting and Conspiracy to Commit Targeting.

There was a collision. I have never seen a ref NOT throw a flag when he ran into someone on the sideline. At any level of football.

That's the problem with the rule. Everyone thinks they know what targeting is but the way it's called is so arbitrary that no one really knows even when they are "100% sure that's targeting". It needs to be something that's rarely called and only in absolute circumstances that it's so blatantly obvious that a defender is being completely dangerous. It's also ridiculous that it is added as something that's look at when not ruled on the field. The point of replay is supposed to correcting egregious calls, not trying to litigate down to the pixel and assume the intent of a player. It's a stupid rule and it's a stupid rule that morons who claim to be rules experts can't even justify at times based on the rules. There were numerous dumbass rules experts and commentators declaring the certainty of the atrocity of the Taaffe non-call. It's yet another issue college football needs to tackle but doesn't have anyone at the top to do an adequate job of.

Yet they can change a rule mid season (Oregon 12th penalty) but can't ever get this.  HATE targeting.  Headhunting has been effectively coached out from the sport but targeting impacts bang bang plays where the reactions are fractions of a second and the defender is put in a tough spot to make a play.

Fuck rules "experts". They forget probably most important part of the rule....intent.

It was also flagged in the Bama-Michigan Outback Bowl the day before when a Bama staffer ran over the side judge.

Definitely Baker Mayfield vibe!

For all y'all trashing on UGA here, they did make Baker Mayfield cry at the Rose Bowl..

And their douche coach Dillingham has full-on Mr "Five Star Culture" vibes.  Like they were spit out of the same machine that creates McDonald's Quarter Pounders...

This is the game we're gonna turn it on against just because we want it more. I can see us dialing it up. Sark said we want to make it to the mountain too after last year, so I have faith we can do this. Personally, I would rather face Pedo St, but reality is ND will take them to the woodshed.

I'll take OSU now over a game with ND or PS.  I think the results of the previous 2 games for OSU and Texas and the seeding going forward are ideal for Texas.  Texas coming off a struggle and OSU coasting to wins could help give us an edge.  I'd rather meet OSU now rather than the final and I don't really care about making it to the final if we aren't going to win it.  Playing OSU now is our best shot at them.  I think we'll be the more motivated team and it's in Dallas.  None of that will be enough if both teams continue playing like they have, but that's not typically how football works.  I'm not counting on OSU shitting the bed, but they are only 2 games out from a really crappy loss.  I love that OSU has been anointed the unstoppable team of the century while nobody is giving Texas a shot just a week after we were considered the favorite to win it all (right or wrong).  Most fans and sports writers have the attention span of puppies.  Nobody really knows how it will shake out, but there is a lot of rat poison being fed to OSU right now and that's a good thing in my opinion.

Agree with all of this. The fact that it's played in Dallas gives me more hope; and it's not like the talent difference is drastic. We aren't overrmathed. I don't care what the line says, it will be a close game.

I also can't wait to fuck them up in the shoe in our first game next season.

Arizona State fans are now convinced that Golden didn’t “complete the catch” on 4th and 13, and it should have been ruled incomplete.

He caught the ball, transferred hands, and then immediately rolled over with the ball securely in the same hand. Playing in slow mo and cutting off the end is misleading.
