You miss that tailback pass?

No one lost track of the receiver.

Muhammad was there on him in coverage.

He unfortunately lost track of a wounded, one-winged duck of a pass that, luckily for them, knuckleballed it's way down in between him and Taaffe.

I was going to make this post: "The refs in this game were just bad.  We had a lot of calls go our way as well."

But then I lised out the missed and iffy calls for both teams, and they nearly all went ASU's way.

Thats crazy to hear especially coming from you.

I don't mean that offensively you're just pretty objective with regards to officiating historically.

I prefer being the underdog though. Hopefully we don’t race out to a lead and I can’t believe I’m saying that. During the Ohio state game, I said “watch they are going to keep the foot on the pedal” and they got it to 24-0. It’s so confusing to put your foot on the pedal with 2 minutes to go and don’t run the ball but can’t be aggressive with 45 minutes left in the game

What has happened to bond? Why can other teams throw deep balls but we can’t get the ball to him minus overthrown deep posts? We have to be using him better

Ignoring the question about Bond..

Overthrown deep post?  Quinn hasn’t overthrown a deep ball over the middle of the field in 3 years as a starter. That is where you miss on those passes because they are harmless incompletions.  He under throws the fuck out of the “deep post” and it leads to our receivers having to be All American defensive backs to try and save interceptions.  It is the one throw that Quinn truly cannot make and is absolutely infuriating that Sark (and I’m a huge Sark fan) still gives him that multiple times a game.

The refs deserve an F.

They were terrible.

it wasn't Okie St level of inventing calls, but the LACK of obvious holding, targeting (against us and then the no call on Taffe), phantom defensive holding, and this shit on the fake punt.

There is no way this crew a called playoff level of officiating.
IDK if this is even Texas high school football level.

It was some of the worst officiating in lack of calls I’ve seen in a while.

I remember at least two times where their o-line grabbed our d-line so obviously that the d-lineman's shirt was stretched out.  Of course, no flag.

It was obvious from the first series that Arizona St was not going to be able to pass block our rushers, and yet not a single offensive holding penalty was called the entire game that went to double overtime.

Bond looked like he was running a middle post and Quinn threw it to the outside. Despite deep safety help I think the middle was open. I’m not sure if Bond ran the wrong route or Quinn threw a bad pass. This is not the first time this has happened.

ESPN "Get Up" this morning, national show, lead discussion is the uncalled Taafe targeting no-call and hos ASU wins the game is it gets called.  Not Greeny or any other one of the pinheads mentions the just as obvious targeting no-call the other way on the Ewers interception.  Sloppy, sloppy reporting.

Ehh on First Take right now, they just asked Dan O and Stephen A and the loud ass Italian dude if they felt Arizona State got robbed and they all said “no.”

They all agreed that the call (targeting/not targeting) sucked but Arizona State had 4th and 13th and let us score. Basically said “If you stop them on 4th and 13th, you win so that’s on you.”

Bond's last few games, he's been a net negative. He doesn't put much effort into blocking and doesn't fight for the ball. Early season Bond was great. Late season Bond... not so much.

You know he's hurt right?

Why does anyone care what any of those gasbags say about the game. They can't take away the win if the morning yapyap shows determine it wasn't fair.

I can't watch two minutes of any of those fucking shows without hitting the mute button.

Just saw that they gave Skat the Peach Bowl MVP.  First time ever the MVP has come from the losing team.  He had a great game, no doubt, but I'm pretty sure that an INT to clinch a playoff win, or 2 TD and one 2 point conversion passes in OT to win the game are more valuable.  It's a bitch move.  I'm getting where I fucking hate those chodes in Atlanta.

I got no problem with Mr. CTE getting the MVP award.  143 rushing yards with 2 TD, 42 passing yards with a TD, and 99 receiving yards against the best defense in the country?  It's one of the more impressive individual bowl game performances ever.

Was on a text thread with a buddy, and I mentioned that it was incredible that ASU did not get flagged for holding once.  He came back with the “don’t blame the refs… need to play well enough for the refs not to matter” argument.

While I don’t completely discount that argument, the fact is that the biggest thing  the refs can do to negate a talent imbalance between two teams is to decide not to call holding penalties.   Not one was called yesterday.

I don’t care what they say. I was responding to the person who was saying the ESPN talking heads were all blaming that call.

And, they weren’t taking anything away from Texas, they were praising us if anything.

I'm still arguing with pussies on Reddit about Taaffe's hit not being called targeting. It's obvious all these losers just want to see us fail with their bias. I want all the tears if we find a way to beat OSU.

God I love all the people whining today about the targeting non call and all the other shit in the Texas game

“If blah blah blah happened Arizona State would have won!”

Cool. You want a cookie or something?

Maybe the NCAA will announce today that the game has been overturned due to refs not calling targeting on the field, or after reviewing the play in the booth, if you just tweet enough about it and cry real hard 🤣

I just wish our offense consisted of a little more diversity.  When unable to run, the offense consists of a checkdown to the flat, a deep route, and a sideline jump ball.

ASU's undersized but fast defense was over pursuing ALL NIGHT.  Not one misdirection call?  Nothing to attack them is space?  I think there was one on a busted play when QE hit Blue as the pocket was collapsing that went for close to 20 yds.  The middle was there as well.  Especially late in the game.

Rewatch our right outside zone runs (that were stopped over and over at or near LOS).  Many (all?) began as a QE read option which were handed off to the RB every time .. and every time the ASU contain edge completely ignored any possibility that QE would keep.  There was no first or second level defender to be seen.

Conclusion?  There is no keep option and the opponent defense knows and ignores the possibility.

IT'S BLATANTLY ILLEGAL.

With the toosh push being a thing just fucking forget about that rule ever being implemented in a game. Just let it go....there are a ton of other bullshit penalties or lack there of we should be pissed about.

I think the no call helped us out.  Get the penalty, they probably kick a FG to go up 3 (if they make it).  We are 4th and 13 down 3, Bert gets the hat trick for missed clutch FG and the season is over.

For me it’s all about consistency. But the reason I’m posting this shit and not letting any of it go is because all the haters are pointing to Taafe and the missed targeting saying it determined the outcome of the game. Which isn’t accurate because there were plenty of missed calls that could have helped Texas and didn’t.

the game was poorly officiated and ended up fair

there's an obvious difference though as defined in the rules. you can push your teammate forward from behind but you can't pull him forward. Skattebo was down and would not have scored if not for that blatant cheating.

Along those lines, I’m not sure how we run Auburn out there for any kick of significance ever again. Mentally he has to be torched

Yeah he had a hellluva game considering he racked up at least half those stats with an obvious TBI.

“Flu” … lol … dude vomits after getting skull fucked and then spends the rest of the game shaking his head like a dog with an ear infection, undoubtedly trying to fix a vestibular issue.

The loud talking heads should be debating the negligence of a coach and medical staff playing a RB with an obvious TBI rather than the taaffe targeting call that the officials reviewed.

So you can do it all over the field, to get 1st downs, but not to score? I think there’s just near universal ignorance of the rule if that’s the case

I think I saw it called in an NFL game a week or two ago, which that play immediately reminded me of last night.

But importantly it's not just the non-call that's the issue, it's the complete ignorance on the part of the paid professionals who get to talk about these things. I mean, anyone with two eyeballs could see WHY Skattebo scored on that play but it's up to these ding dongs to inform their audience that it's a penalty and ASU got away with a big one on that play.

For example, if there's a broken play behind the LOS and the QB is about to get sacked but his offensive lineman commits an obvious holding that isn't called only for the QB to then fire a TD pass into the end zone, do you think they show that without at least talking about the context of the play?

It's just nuts to me how that TD gets shown over and over without any mention of the clear penalty on the play. YOU. CANNOT. DO. THAT.

Been beaten to death all over Surly... but, do we need an actual OC? I think the
"Co-OC for X" titles for Flood and uhhhh (checks notes) Milwee are some sort of cover for larger-than-usual salaries. But do they have any OC function in game time? Does Steve ask them what they're seeing, what might work against what the opponent is doing?

I understand the whole world of college football apparently believes that Sark is one of the great play callers alive, but it sometimes seems like he is too involved at that to actually HEAD Coach. Seems like it might be a Good Thing™ for him to have an actual OC, like he has an actual DC to whom he clearly defers for game calls. Is there anyone (apparently not Milwee) who could handle OC'ing for us?
