For my own wonderment, do you guys think if they had called the targeting against bond that it would have been ruled after the change of possession, or would we have kept the ball?  The hit seemed to happen after the db caught it but before he landed and established the catch and the hit for sure prevented bond from making a play on the ball or defender to break it up.

this is a good question.  NCAA should define what it means for targeting to be a post possession foul.  If he isn't on the ground with the ball when the hit takes place he can't be deemed to have possession.

I believe it would have meant maintaining possession and 15 yards from the previous line of scrimmage,

They said on the Craig Way broadcast that because the target was after the interception, it would have been Sun Devil ball, 15 yard penalty from the spot of the foul (or maybe it would have been half the distance depending where that spot was)

I heard that and I'm aligned with the argument that it was a continuous action and that Bond was effectively taken out of the play by the hit. It could go either way, but the primary take away is that NO targeting calls were being made yesterday.

They whipped our ass in all facets except the scoreboard.

What a stupid Surly take.

We were in control.  They couldn't score except on trick plays or when we did stupid penalties.

When Sark finally called plays Ewers could make, we scored.  If Ewers could hit the long pass instead of repeatedly underthrowing, we would have scored 50 in regulation.  But he couldn't, so we had a lot of 3 and outs.

Defense was awesome except for the stupid PIs

Scaterboo is the real deal, but we held him in check.  And yes, we stopped him frequently on 3rd and 4th down.

I've seen worse crews, but I've definitely seen better. Glad we're guaranteed no Big Ten, but I'm well aware it could be worse.

Seeing all the Big 12 shitheels whining on Twitter about a non-call for targeting is delicious. They've put all their hopes on Arizona State to pull the upset since they themselves couldn't last year. Keep waiting, dickweeds.

People all over.  it was a perfect face to face form tackle.  None of them talk about the ASU defender deliberately elbowing our receiver in the helmet on the interception.

Bobby talks about this a lot. Honestly, Sark and his staff are experienced and paid well enough that they should know the different crews' tendencies. No holding? More PI? Adjust accordingly then. God I hope we don't get Mar'd

Supposedly Mar wasn't assigned a playoff game, but he is an alternate if one of them flies off a cliff somewhere.  Someone posted a list a few days ago.

Ohio State fans online stated their opponents had 0 holding calls all year against them prior to last night. So it seems like this is a systemic b10 issue.

Others said they had 1.

I think it was our SEC CCG crew calling the Oregon Ohio St. game.  Oregon linemen were flagrantly holding 2 or 3 Ohio St. players every down.  Of course it was 34-0 by that point, so maybe they just didn't want to slow the game down with penalties.

The deeper we get into the season - certainly the post-season - it seems that fewer targeting calls are being made or upheld. The ASU kid ejected from B12 championship game is the only player that comes to mind. It may just be that unless it's egregious and their hands are tied, they don't want to be the deciding factor or have a role in sending a team home. Akin to a home plate umpire that doesn't want to call a game-ending third strike on a ball that touches the outside corner of the zone, but is forced to when a player (most likely Aaron Judge) takes strike three through the heart of the zone.

This. All of this. Fuck them and their douchebag coach and RB. All their dorky fans throwing up that 3 finger sign I had to see all day in crowd shots. Winning was fun but seeing it ripped from their hearts after their miraculous comeback and one 4th and 13 from going to the semis. 3 plays later, they are now down 8. Then throw a pick and lose. Their RB crying at the end. Later bitch. The better team won.

Well they would do their own symbol which is a Hook'em but with a middle finger and then they would do a Horns down.  This is someone we almost never have played and have never been in the same conference with.

I will give them this.  We outnumbered them from 60/40, but the ones there were loud.

We couldn’t get off the damn field. Yes we had multiple red zone stops but they kept the ball out of our hands for most of the game

Yep.  The only time our defense looks vulnerable is when they're on the field the entire third quarter and they wear down every god damned week.

Kudos to the AZ St staff for their ball control game plan from the start.  But for the love of all things holy, if we don't start getting some first downs in the third quarter I'm gonna light my own house on fire.

He wasn't lost on that play. He had good coverage.  The throw was bad and the receiver had to both slowdown and run back towards the middle of the field.  Because he was in front of the receiver, he couldn't get back to the ball without running in to him.  Skattebo just chunked that shit as far as he could and it happened to be off enough that it caused a covered receiver to become open.  It was blind ass luck.

And then he lost his balance.  It was good coverage.

There was another spot I think on the same drive where we tackled the ball carrier at like the 37 yard line and they spotted the ball at the 41. I feel like the CFP was so desperate for an upset after Boise lost they pulled out all the stops to keep ASU in the game.

Wait until Texas/OSU.  If GA wins their game do you think we will get ANY calls in the next game?  How many refs, conferences, and CFP judges (or whatever they are called) do you think want to see Texas/Georgia III in the MNC?  Sark better force the players that committed real penalties run sprints or whatever they do these days.  His "penalties talk" a week or 2 ago has obviously faded.

I noticed they used the international symbol for "two in the pink and one in the stink".

What game were you watching?  They absolutely could not score without fake punts, halfback passes or stupid penalties by us.

Our defense was on the field most of the game and kept shutting them down.  One of the best RBs in the country and they got stuffed on 4th and shorts.

TBH it seems arbitrary anyway.  If it is legal to push why not pull?  Pulling actually gives the other team a chance because the football could come out much easier than if they were pushed.

I have heard mention of the ASU defense giving "disconcerting signals."

Did this actually happen? It was weird that we got called for as many false starts as we did, but we are often sloppy.

We had 4 false starts in the last two minutes and OT-by 4 different players.  They also had one in that same time frame.  It was bizarre.  It wasn't that loud in there.  Couldn't have been more than 45-50 in the stadium.

He's an ass to his teammates during games, I don't see that as a good sign.  Without Skattebo I think he be just end up a decent, slightly above average QB.

Yeah.  I couldn't believe on the first drive he was calling out his receiver from across the field.

Reads bulletin boards instead of rule books.  It was a classic perfect face to face form tackle, the way you are supposed to do it.

Although I don't think anybody really knows what targeting is.  Losing team always whines about imaginary targeting calls.

I disagreed with that call. The B12 crew would have called both targets in this game. Thank god we didn't get them.

Skattebo is real easy to hate.  That fucking halfback pass was only completed because it was such a duck  The db was stride for stride with the wr, but the ball was badly underthrown towards the middle of the field.  There wasn't a way for the db to make a play on it without committing a PI.

Maybe he lost it in the lights or just made a mistake, but I’d prefer a 15-yd penalty instead of a touchdown every time.

Skattebo played hard and through an apparent concussion, so congrats and I hope he doesn’t end up in a rest home in his 40’s. 🤞🏼

What's interesting is that there is more outrage being displayed right now on TexAgs than the Arizona fan forums.

They think we somehow bought the Big10 refs and replay officials. They also think we bought silence from the ESPN announcers, haha.

They also think we bought the officials in the SEC.

They are truly amazing.

Yes! Aggy, hey, continue to look at Texas for all the faults you believe are there, so you continue to spend time trying to fix your own issues. Really appreciate your attention to this multifaceted scheme of ours to control every scenario that you dream up by using our influences over the weather, game venues, officials, the Vatican, etc… 🤘🏼

Can't remember the specifics but we had a similar play a couple years ago for a game clinching 1st down. I wanted to say JWhitt pulled Bijan for it but could have the players mixed up, but it definitely happened.

NFL has either changed the rule or ignores aiding the runner penalty and college is about the same

It doesn't get called much but it still happens.  Tennessee just was called for one I want to say against Vanderbilt.

Could be, didn't watch it. My buddy who was also at the game actually met one of the officials in an airport lounge today (he was wearing a Big 10 jacket so my friend asked if he was an official). He said that the whole crew obviously saw it but he "hadn't seen it called in a long time and none of us was going to call it in that game in that situation ".

We only had 5 plays in the 1st quarter and I think only 4 in the first 10 minutes of the 3rd.

We had four offensive plays for minus-5 yards in the first 14:29 of the third quarter and finished with eight yards on six plays in the entire quarter.

Here's our quarter-by-quarter offensive breakdown:

  • 1Q: 5 plays, 75 yards
  • 2Q: 16 plays, 78 yards
  • 3Q: 6 plays, 8 yards
  • 4Q: 28 plays, 165 yards
  • OT: 5 plays, 50 yards
