I know it's a bit, but for fuck's sake.  "Decent"?

30/143 rushing, 4.8 ypc, 2 TDs

8/90 receiving, 12.4 ypc, 0 TDs

1/42 passing, 42 ypa, 1 TD

Just shut up.

His real impact was due to the 97 plays, bad Texas offense going 3-out, and bonus spots.  He was most effective late in the game when the defense had been getting tired.  He made the pass, but one TD was straight BS.  He did his job though and was solid but it wasn't like he was Lendale White ripping off 6.2 ypc against our not worn out national champions defense and only getting stuffed once (IIRC).

But he’s also a bit of a jerk and seems to play up the limelight a lot, so I don’t find him likable at all.

Bit of a jerk? An Athlete??? Why, that's unpossible!

Not likeable? The horror...

This kid spills his guts (and maybe his brain) for his team, I'm guessing he's not too worried if some opponents' fan thinks he's a jerk or if they dont find him "likable"...

He's in the arena...we're just jerking off all over ourselves on a message board.

Perspective...

But what a critical and glorious time for a stuff it was!!!!

I suppose I get the hate for Scatteboo, but if he played for Texas I think a lot of the haters would have extremely different takes on him.

I truly appreciate how he gives it everything on the field, appreciate his love for his team, think he's an extremely talented but not great RB, and don't love his smack talk.

He's good for college football and that matters most to me.

This

I saw ASU several times this season and he is fun to watch.

Anyone dogging him about anything is an imbecile.

Give Scattebo his props. He's achieved legendary status at a school not renowned for producing difference makers at the collegiate level. He capped a memorable season by almost being good enough to knock off mighty Texas in the CFP. He'll never have to buy a beer in the state of AZ again.

He'll get his shot in the NFL but odds are stacked heavily against him being on a squad in 3 years let alone being a starter or difference maker. He'll be 25 years old and hanging around Tempe, filming cheesy commercials for a car dealership and pulling ridiculously hot tail as a 5'8, 250lb balding dude with a face like a backhoe's shovel. He's hit his own life's lottery.

Meh. I think if Jonathan Brooks acted that way I would have issues with it

With his name, charisma and unique look, he can be in a lot of commercials in the Tempe area.   In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if Tempe Ford and Tempe Kia are in a bidding war for his services right now

Jonathan Brooks had a much different playing style, though. It would be more appropriate for a bruiser like Derrick Henry or Trent Richardson to act like that.

Either way, I’m not saying I’m a fan, but at least he puts his money when his mouth is.

This. There was a reason they were showing clips of Jake Plummer. That was the last one they had (or maybe the guy who got blue-on-blued in Afghanistan).

That's the real question.

I presume his goal is a simple one that many players share, which is to make an NFL team roster in any capacity. That should help him some, but his measurables will limit him with NFL programs in a way didn't with his ASU coaching staff.

If he goes undrafted? it's an easy decision by AZ to sign him as a UFA. Being a fan favorite that helps sell tix and create positive buzz can also be a role.

holy shit two midgets in the same backfield, make it happen AZ

And yet he’s thin skinned enough to respond to tweets that say he was getting drunk the night before the game.

I'm not talking about anybody on this thread.  And I'm not accusing anybody of anything here.  So don't get all defensive on me when I say this:

Cam Skattebo is white privilege personified.  If a Black player talked a fraction of the shit Skattebo talks, or dealt with his teammates like Skattebo does, or demonstrated an over-inflated sense of his own abilities like Skattebo does, he'd be absolutely reviled by the media and public.  He'd be treated as akin to Kellen Winslow Jr. or Randy Moss or Keyshawn Johnson or any number of other players we can talk about.  He'd be one of the most hated players in college football.

But as a white guy, he's gritty; he cares; he's tough.

Personally, I think he's a tool.  But I don't think he should necessarily be blamed for how other people react to him.

All the same--let's not pretend that that's not why a lot of people (particularly people of color) strongly dislike the guy.

Michael Irvin is revered for his on-field production, leadership, and work-ethic. He was mouthy as fuck.

Off the field he was worse that Skattebo has remotely approached, at least what we know today,  That's just one example.  His name is on the facade at AT&T Stadium in the Ring of Honor.

And Randy Fucking Moss is the best WR in the history of the game, not named Jerry Rice.  he makes his living today talking to the public, so what the fuck is your point?  That Skattebo is white?  Who fucking cares?

Add to that the fact that he will have health issues in the future and will be pretty pitiful.  Equal parts CTE and while I don't know what the testing for steroids protocol is, he would seem to be a candidate for an exam.

He hasn't learned yet that when he doesn't have more to offer the world will throw him away and forget about him.

And look at who you just compared Skattebo to. You completely make my point.

Skattebo isn’t nearly as good as Irvin or Moss. He’s not. But he gets away shit that Irvin and Moss got away with only because they were HOFers.

Cam Skattebo can be a shit-talking thin-skinned primadonna, and it’s fine because he’s a pretty good college back.  For a black player to get away with that amount of shit-talking primadonna behavior, he needs to be on a level with Michael Irvin and Randy Moss.

And again—I’m not blaming Skattebo for any of that. I don’t think ill of him for what other people think.

But I’m telling you from personal knowledge that that’s what is behind at least some of the hostility you see online towards him.

I'll give him props, but there's no way the Peach Bowl should've awarded him - the loser - an MVP award.

That trophy should've been QE's, the game-winner.

Not sure this is true any more.  Look at Marshawn Lynch, another good RB known for his toughness and "unique" persona and off the field behavior, but was beloved by pretty much everyone.  At worst, the attitude towards him was that he was just a character, and the NFL needs more characters.  It's especially these days, when nearly every play ends with someone doing the "look at me" screaming, flexing, pounding their chest and/or screaming at the sky, shit talking is just not the trigger it used to be.

Yet you said “Cam Skatebo is white privelege personified”

Your personal knowledge is dogshit.

Real people don’t look at sports through a lens of color.

You're ignorant as fuck and part of the problem with the internet.

He’s a good player. There’s people of all colors that talk shit. Some of them are liked, some of them are not. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin….unless you’re a brain dead mouth breather, then you can bring color into the discussion.

If Cam started wearing fur coats and saying things like “straight cash homie” I’d be more entertained, but comparing him to NFL hall of famers tells me your mother should’ve left you in that dumpster.
