Couple points:

I think targeting could have been called on Taaffe. It looked like it was helmet-to-helmet. Curious to why you think it wasn't. (and I am so glad it wasn't!)

I also think targeting should have been called on the hit on Barron on the INT. Dude laid him out when he was defenseless.

the only reason i could see it not being called on the Taaffe hit was that they considered him a runner right at the time of contact and since there were no other indicators (crown of helmet or launching) they let it slide. Should have been called by the letter of the rule if you ask me but I don’t mind it not being called when it wasn’t an attempted knockout hit and it was very very close.

Think Cotton Bowl is de facto NC game.

To be honest. This IS the national championship. Whoever wins this is winning it all.

Except that they don’t hand out a national championship trophy. Don’t be an aggy.

People were saying the Rose Bowl was the de facto NC game.

If Texas somehow beats OSU, the ND vs. Georgia winner can give Texas all they want. If OSU wins, they will be a solid favorite in the title game.

If we end up playing GA one more time, we might just beat the fuck outta them

Because helmet to helmet isn't automatically targeting. You have to have an indication of targeting, a lunge, lowering of the head, something. There was absolutely nothing there.  It was actually much closer on the hit against Bond. That guy absolutely threw a forearm into his head and that absolutely could and should have been identified as an indicator of targeting.

Texas is gonna get shat on by the media and on social media for the next 9 days until the game starts.

Our guys are gonna be ready to silence the haters. Only question is, can our OL handle their front? If so, Bond should be healthy again, Wisner and Blue will be fresh, and our defense should be able to hold them under 30.

Their LBs can be had in coverage, but our RBs didn't make hay against ASU like I expected so who knows.

Since I usually love your posts, can you please explain why it wasn't targeting? I honestly want to hear your thinking.

I’ll explain why. Your player kept his head up when he made the hit.  Just like our LB against Tennessee when he broke the quarterbacks helmet.

should be a great game next Friday.

I see one storyline already emerging - and Joey Galloway just made this point: Texas was the favorite to win the NC coming into the QFinals. And now they won't be.

He attributes it to our struggles today and, to a lesser extent, against Clemson.

But, it's BS. Coming into this round, we had the highest probability to win the NC of any of the eight teams remaining, but our %age was only trailed slightly by Ohio State and Oregon.

The winner of the Rose Bowl was ALWAYS going to be the favorite going into the semis. It's like having two players from the same team splitting votes for the MVP. We were going to be the dog in the Cotton Bowl regardless.

How many times will we see Muhammad throw his hands up mid play blaming somebody else for giving up a completion to his receiver against these guys? JFC that pissed me off. Saw it a little against Clemson too when he was getting torched.

That effort on the RB pass play was fucking pathetic.

That should've been a pic.

The hype for this semifinal game won’t sniff the feet of Texas/USC.  Nowhere close.  This isn’t close to the Texas/Bama national title game. These are two 2-loss teams that finished ranked #3 and #6. There have been a lot more hyped games than this.

Hell, Texas/ND or Ohio State/ND for the national title would be a bigger deal.

That line is laughable.
tOSU will boatrace this team like 38-10.

We can’t run the ball at all and are very limited in the passing game. Our OL has regressed and is undisciplined. Our head  coach makes bonehead decisions. Our special teams is shit with a moron in charge.

Our defense will play well but will quickly tire out once TOP works against them. Muhammad and Taaffe will get burned all night by the best WR corps in the country.

Texas will lose. It will not be close.

Yeah, people who weren't alive or following sports will never really understand the build up of Texas vs USC. I believe it remains the only time in history #1 and #2 held those positions all year and their met up with 3 Heisman candidates/winners in opposing back fields.

Not two helmet schools from the "fly over territory" in a CFP semi-final.
