This final four is a wet dream for ESPN.

Absolute blue bloods of college football.

I am already getting the vibes that I got in 04/05 before the USC game.

We have no chance and OSU is by far the best team this year and blah blah blah.

It will get a lot worse these next several days….

Well, technically Pedo State isn't one of the eight bluebloods, but they're in the group with UGA and LSU gunning for Nebraska's spot.

What is the consensus 8 Einstein?

This is just one link of many out there that keep brining up the same 8 teams. Others argue for inclusion FSU, Georgia, Penn Stare etc but no one argues over these 8.

So PSU was number nine on that list.

Why 1936? Not going to argue the list but Kyle umlaug enjoys his stat bias in Texas’ favor.

Stop overthinking it. Your expanded list of qualifications and arbitrary line(8) is no more valid a selection criteria than his one qualification.

As an example, this site regularly shits on the AP poll but I see a heavy influence of the AP cited here. Of course, if you followed football history, you know Penn State didn't get the bump Notre Dame got with media and polls as an independent. They would regularly talk up Notre Dame out of one side of their mouths while denigrating Penn State for being independent out of the other side. Penn State was independent until the 90s and had many an undefeated season without a chance at #1 poll ranking.

Penn State has long been a recognized brand in modern college football with a lot of wins and multiple titles/undefeated seasons. They are the top program in a State that regularly produces great college and NFL football talent. They have lots of long standing traditions and a large, rabid fan base.

You disagree, fine but don't pretend you or anybody else is an authority on an arbitrary classification.

Those are the blue bloods. All that other stuff that makes PSU a good historical team is fine but doesn’t change the definition. Dont use the term if you don’t agree with who it is referring to. They also have a history of literally butt fucking children.

Blue bloods were not defined by wins, even though the wins are what made them into blue bloods.

Back in the day, Blue Bloods were teams that could shoulder the financial burden of an entire conference through thick or thin years.  In other words, they sold tickets both at home but mainly on the road.  When Texas came to visit, your fans would show up no matter how bad your season was going. Plus, the Texas fan base showed up too. Tickets plus concessions is what kept conference members afloat.  NOTE:  ND didn't shoulder a conference, but they still generated the same money for teams they played.

Now Blue Bloods are more about the eyeballs they draw. Only time will tell if teams like PSU and UG are real Blue Bloods by today's standards.  Let's see how many eyes they still draw when they hit a decade down turn like the other Blue Bloods have weathered time and time again.

Just pour this shit on all the way up to kick. I love being the underdog in this one. We suck, have always sucked, and it's just an honor to be allowed on the field with these legends.

Fuck all that. There's going to be a run on couches in the midwest region on 1/11.

What happened in that game?   I heard Beamer was upset about something, but didn’t dig into the why.

Beamer ran a trick play on a kickoff where he had the returner spread his arms as if signaling no return.  Beamer claimed he check with refs before game and if returner doesn't make an "incomplete" arm motion, the ball is not dead and ball can still be returned (sounds like bullshit to me).  Later in game when Illinois had an injured player, Beilema walked over to USC sidelines and mockingly made an arms out gesture to Beamer.  At this point it was clear Illinois was going to win, so Beamer went ape shit and pretended to have to be held back, even though in a scuffle Beilema could have just sat on or eaten Beamer to put a quick end to the affair.

Also Bielema was just his usual ass-ish self....sending out super late substitutions every time on defense and instructing his fat players to run off and onto the field as slow as possible, forcing Beamer to use multiple timeouts to avoid penalties before the play clock expired since the refs weren't letting the offense snap the ball.  Legal...sure.  But shady and par for the course for Brett.  That was really the genesis of it all imo.

If Nebraska is still a "blue blood" the term is meaningless.

Apparently, you just don’t know what the term means. Teams dont become blue bloods and teams don’t lose the designation. The eight blue bloods are now and forever, the blue bloods of college football. There are CFB who understand that, and then are….other people.

I have never understood this. Either nuts hang or they don't. Am I wrong???

Is Sark in a coaches meeting and he says, "Should I let let my nuts hang or nah?"

Isn't that what's the scrotum is for?

Wrong: people reel them back into the body all the time, voluntarily and involuntarily, particularly anxious and fearful guys. Most women too.

Bullshit, it’s the arbitrary cut off year to exclude aggy from blue blood status

The Wall of Truth on the side of Kyle Stadium enshrines and protects all the hundreds of thousands of championships  aggy has to date. aggy has no need for inferior blue blood, they have white blood, obtained from each other , and sheep, administered orally, rectally, nasally, and intraocularly via organic hypodermic micro tubules or glass cylinders ….no other organization carries such “cream of the crotch” white blood in their bloodstream.  Sacred.

I'm curious as to the health of our OL and the status of the various injuries there.

Fair to assume Cam Williams will return, allowing Goosby to backup?  The Peach Bowl seemed to fatigue a number of players, while Ohio State played a clean and quick Rose Bowl game.  I'm hoping there's enough rest for those who need it.

I did not say the list was the end of the story, instead I said that the 8 in that link were on every credible list making them the consensus 8. Others teams regardless of how deserving or how fervently different folks argue for their inclusion do not make every list.

Stephen A has a good point, about the sloppiness.  How else do you explain the 3rd quarter blues?  As I watched the game, I was borderline happy we only got outscored 5-0 in the 3rd quarter.  Especially the safety, when the ball was dislodged, it flew straight to Ewers so he could fall in the end zone giving ASU only 2 points.  Could have easily been a TD for them.

I wouldn't mind more ESPN bulletin board material.  Of course there is no way to approach the December 2005 propaganda that led to the "USC vs greatest armies in history" thread on an old site.

This is one of those years where I optimistically feel like Sark has something left in the gameplan he hasn't used, but the only thing I can think of at the moment is to come out of the 2nd half on offense with the hurry up no huddle.  The other obvious idea is to come out with Arch leading the team.  At this point, we've got to face reality.  We're losing the 3rd quarter regardless, so what does it hurt to try something different?

My intense interest is in three factors:   a. injuries, b. luck during the game,  and c. being worn out.  We have played three overtimes in recent games compared to 0 for Ohio St. correct?

The fourth and possibly more important factor is officiating.  Are former PAC-12 officials considered neutral?  Where did they land? Other than them, ACC is good, so who else is left?  Obviously no big10, big12, or SEC.  Mountain West?  AAC?
