Where are the board Michigan guys? How did y’all pull it off? Sell out to limit the OSU pass game and live with what they got in the run game?

Yes. In addition to constantly changing the looks - kept them guessing and off balance.

However, Martindale and the Wolverines were able to dictate some of that with the defensive looks they presented Ohio State, sacrificing numbers against the run in order to prevent big plays over the top through the air. Michigan needed Graham, Grant, the rest of the defensive line and the linebackers to hold up against the run despite the Buckeyes having a numbers advantage. They did just that, and after the Wolverines got a few good licks in on OSU quarterback Will Howard, the rest was history.

Just going to post this in here but what an absolute beautiful helmet lineup for the semi-finals!

Gus (@SportsPSD) on X

when I was a kid I thought the buckeye stickers were just white circles with a sharpie drawn star/asterisk. I thought it was ghetto. I mean that's what they are and what the fuck is a buckeye anyway. only helmet on there that I give a fuck about is the horns. the rest need burnt orange and white smashed on to them.

This made me think it would be interesting to track where Texas was at before and after Sark considering he's basically had us in the top five every week for two straight years now.

Texas in 2021:

Texas in 2024:

That's a pretty big move up and to the right in the last three years for both Texas and Oregon.

University of Nowledge is fixin to get passed by uga and pedo at least. fla, lsu and tenn could within a decade as well.

I am cautiously optimistic about this game.

Texas had our 'down' game vs Arizona State, which may have been a case of (somewhat) looking past them.

Hopefully, Buckeyes are doing the same to us. We need to get some nice, solid shots on Howard early to reduce him to the helpless, crying version of himself we have defeated for the last three years.

Texas wins in a squeaker.

It's pretty funny how knee-jerky talking heads get in a week-to-week sport like football that is so matchup-dependent and never includes consistent play throughout what is now a 15-16-week season. How many times in a 16-game season is a team going to realistically play their 'A' game?

Remember halfway through October when A&M beat Missouri, Mississippi State, and LSU in a row? Suddenly, no one remembered they had beaten Bowling Green by 6 points less than a month earlier, and they were being hyped up as the best team in Texas.

Ohio State is a good team. They also lost to a Michigan team who could barely throw a forward pass a month ago and had to squeak out a 4-point win against Nebraska at home. Tennessee was one of the most overrated teams in the country and the Oregon defense has gotten pantsed against most offenses with a pulse.

Styles make fights.

Great post!!

people forget a few weeks ago people had concerns about  Ohio State  even being in the playoffs, now they’re the best team since 2019 LSU.
like you said this is a knee-jerk reactionary society.

like I said I feel Texas is gone come out with the physicality we seen against A&M or last year at Bama even in a loss I feel Texas is going to put the everyone on notice “That’s the Texas team everyone was waiting on”

Ohio State gone have to earn this one

Just look back at all the commentary after the Rice game last year. Or Houston. Or TCU. We responded pretty well after each of those games. We thought we would never have a complete game again after TCU, only to go on to suffocate Iowa State, blow out Tech, and whip Oklahoma State to end the season.

If a team plays a 16-game season, I would say you get their overall 'A' or 'B+' performance maybe half the time? Sometimes the opponent is so bad (CSU, UTSA, ULM level) that you barely even notice you may have played your 'B' game. Just like a pitcher in baseball who doesn't have his stuff, sometimes you just have to gut through and find a way.

Jeremiah Smith might have 300 yards receiving. Texas has no shot in this one. Might as well not even make the trip to Arlington.

i know what you're trying to do but please stop unless you're going to do it better than this

Seems to me the key to beating tOSU offense is to limit explosive plays and force them to be methodical or at the very least make them try to score TDs from the red zone.  In their last two wins here is their scoring:

Rose Bowl

First Half

3 play drive, 45 yard TD

3 play drive 42 yard TD

10 play drive 46 yard FG

2 play drive 43 yard TD

1 play drive 66 yard TD

10 play drive 36 yard FG

2nd Half

6 play drive 8 yard TD

Tennessee First Round

First Half

5 play drive 37 yard TD

5 play drive 1 yard TD

7 play drive 29 yard TD

2nd Half

6 play drive 22 yard TD

9 play drive 1 yard TD

5 play drive 24 yard TD

The average TD drive number of plays 4.7 average TD scoring yardage 25.5.  I know we don't all like it but bend but don't break and try to bait them into being meatheads (which is what Michigan clearly did as tOSU kept stubbornly trying to run the ball to prove something) is the way in this one.  Gonna have to give up some good (but not great) runs here and there and need to tackle well and keep things in front.  Make Will Howard have to keep making plays and as Michigan found the mistakes will come.

I know this isn't rocket science analysis but keeping everything in front and not letting them go off and then letting Day do his Day thing in the second half of a close big game should be our aim.

You don’t need to keep proving you don’t know the meaning of CFB “blue bloods.”

Hey dipshit, you said "Teams dont become blue bloods and teams don’t lose the designation. The eight blue bloods are now and forever." You think your dumbass opinion of blue blood "designation" in 2025 will mean jack shit 50 years from now? 100 years from now?

Some encouraging comments (earlier) on this thread. Watched a little ESPN this morning. Nobody is giving us a chance, although one talking head echoed my thoughts that the real championship game is UT v OSU.

The D will have it's work cut out for it. A couple of turnovers would be nice.

The O will have to kick it up a notch (OR TWO) over their ASU performance. That means both Sark and Ewers need to step up.

A big upset would totally kickass. Say UT 30 / OSU 20.

Cotton Bowl = Siege of Kiev (basically not even a battle, just a bloodletting)

Ohio State = Mongol Empire

Ryan Day = Genghis Khan

Jeremiah Smith = Odegei Khan

UT = Kievan Rus

Sark = IDK, whatever poor duke was in charge of Kiev.  Probably got decapitated or something

Doooooooooomed

Yes, dumbfuck. Just like the Founding Fathers will still be the Founding Fathers in 50 years. And, 100 years. Again, you’ve proven you don’t know the meaning of the term, you don’t have to keep proving it. Have a good day.

Would you consider Yale and Army bluebloods? They dominated the sport at one point, long before anyone else did

"Blue blood" is a subjective term fucktard, not a fact of history. It's based entirely on perception at a given time. We won our first title in 1963. Nebraska won their first in 1970. Minnesota had 7. To think your 2025 opinion will mean jack shit in 2075, when hardly anyone alive remembers Nebraska wining a title, is laughable hubris.
