I know it sounds nuts but just get this game to the 2nd half within 3-7 either way and then see in that situation which coach can mind fuck himself less. My money is on Sark.

Don't want to rain on your parade, but our offense has netted 4 total points in our last 6 third quarters, for an average of 0.667 points.  I think we're going to need to be at least +10 at the half.

Our defensive line is better than Tennessee's or Oregon's and our linebackers are quite a bit better. I think we can create some of the same problems that Michigan presented them. Their offensive line is gettable, although Chip Kelly's run blocking schemes might be his greatest strength. We will need turnovers, but more importantly, we need our offense to hold possession of the ball. We need to be close in plays and time of possession. I'm all for explosive plays, but the name of the game is limiting three and outs. Obviously that's all high-level stuff, but i think there's a roadmap and we absolutely have the personnel to beat them.

Not to be captain obvious, but we need to be able to have a somewhat existent run game. What stands out to me is how much space is available to QE on zone read type plays. He will have 5-7 yards on the outside but hands it off to Wis running right into the middle for 1 yard. QB1 has to realize that he has 8 quarters of football left at Texas and he can be a legend if he leaves it all out there and runs the ball. It can’t be Arch, because it would be out of rhythm and right along with tendency.  Has to be QE. He can do it if he trusts his own athleticism. Old high school coach used to say that if you run without fear you don’t get hurt, you hurt others.

I was saying this in the ASU game. They weren’t respecting Quinn at all on the ZR and only keyed on the backs. Quinn could’ve had 8 free yards a couple of times if he would just hold the damn ball. Don’t be so predictable all the time. And if he’d keep it a few times the linebackers will start to crash down on him and open up the RPO to Helm more.

We need to fix our blocking when teams slant against our outside zone. We have to be able to punish that. Anything else is just a band aid on a schematic problem.

The matchup is actually pretty decent for us. They want to sling it, but we have the best secondary they’ve seen this year. And we can get pressure with 4. And we have Ant who can outrun anyone on second level. We’ve got an NFL guy for everyone they have.

The lack of minimal QB run threat is starting to hurt the Texas offense. Teams just tee off on the RB and QE is basically no threat at all. In the TD run vs ASU Ewers had to practically be invited into the EZ.
He needs to pull the ball down and run a couple of times vs OSU.

Howard has struggle against every great defense he's faced - Michigan, Penn St, Nebraska.  Just continue the trend.

Who is a "Blueblood" in college football is a time-dependent concept -- dependent on long stretches of title-winning, winning seasons, bowl winning, big-game winning, high ranking in polls, some Heisman winners, etc.

-- In other words, long stretches of generally kicking ass and winning titles, awards, etc.

-- Quit winning titles and kicking ass for a couple of decades, teams lose blueblood status.

-- Thus, Army, Yale, and Minnesota were once "bluebloods." Obviously, no longer.

Of course, teams can win enough to become bluebloods.... but also lose it.

-- Nebraska under Devaney and Osborne became a top-shelf blueblood. But, given the past 20 years, they are fading fast. Another 10 like the past 20 and they will no longer be bluebloods. They already may not be a blueblood.

-- Miami, Florida, FSU all looked like sure-fire new blueboods in the 1980s-1990s, when they kicked ass. But they are fringe bluebloods, at least FSU and Florida might be. Miami, nope.

Texas was good before 1957 ... but not a national "blueblood" until DKR showed up and kicked ass for 20 years

-- winning 3 national titles

-- ruling the SWC

-- winning multiple EPIC FUCKING GAMES ... as in some of the very biggest games of an ENTIRE DECADE!

-- deploying revolutionary offense that changed the game

-- etc.

Despite having some shitty coaches (McWilliams, Strong, and to an extent Herman-Mackovic) since DKR.... Akers, Mack, and now Sark have won enough big games (etc) to keep UT's status as a blueblood intact.

-- For that, we Longhorns should be thankful.

TLDR: Bottom line, bluebloods are not eternal. They rise and fall over time, just like nations and corporations.

It worked at the end of the 2018 season when UGA was going to “literally kill us on the field”

I do not like the guy, but he is not wrong. Not sure Texas has put together a full game this season vs a decent opponent. Would be great to see that vs OSU.

I actually like SA a lot. He is written a huge check for everyone to dislike him and he pulls it off. He's been through a ton of shit in his life and has worked his ass off to get to where he is.

Listen to him off of ESPN in an interview-setting and I guarantee you'll come out liking the guy. Very genuine individual.

"Blue blood" is a subjective term fucktard, not a fact of history. It's based entirely on perception at a given time. We won our first title in 1963. Nebraska won their first in 1970. Minnesota had 7. To think your 2025 opinion will mean jack shit in 2075, when hardly anyone alive remembers Nebraska wining a title, is laughable hubris.

In 2075, the eight CFB blue bloods will still be the CFB blue bloods. Enjoy your afternoon.

The difference is in 2005 we were blowing everyone out, were undefeated, had VY and were not getting any respect.  Not the same.

With that said, I like being the underdog and this is a game that makes legends if Texas gets the W.

Then you haven’t spent much time with Ohio state fans.  The most obnoxious contemptible people around.  Everyone hates pedo state.  I was raised that our second favorite team is whomever is playing Notre dame; that hate is prevalent anywhere outside of the Midwest and New York.

Having lived all over I guarantee that Texas generates the least hate nationally, except maybe in Oklahoma, Colorado, and New Mexico.  And Arkansas.  Californians don’t give a shit about their own football much less anyone else.

i was in the hospital in okc over the weekend. The first nurse was from San Antonio and is a huge cowboy fan. I think he put it on my chart as some of the docs nurses and techs made snide remarks about Texas or the cowboys. They begrudgingly were envious of horns owing to their awfulness at ou and state.  Venables needs vehicle barriers around his home.  Yikes.

Texas is absolutely hated nationally. Probably more so than any other program if I'm being honest. Not to be a dick but so many of your posts revolve around your very limited life experiences and then you take that and preach to everyone else like you're the God damn arbiter of truth around here or like no one else has ever experienced anything different or contrary.

Texas is extremely hated. We are national hate mainfested in burnt orange and white. We are hated by fan bases that have never even played us or have any reason to hate us. I'm in a group text with 3 of my best friends from college - two SoCal guys and a guy from the Hamptons. They all DESPISE Texas. I mean they fucking HATE us. Their favorite team every week is whoever is playing Texas.

But - you know - they aren't from New Mexico or Denver or whatever the fuck so I guess they probably hate on Penn State more.

We are public enemy Number. Fucking. One. and if you don't believe it it's because you either have your head up your ass or you're old and senile and don't pay attention to what's happening around you.

I personally love it. Fuck the haters. Fuck America. We're Thanos in this bitch and we're coming to fuck everyone else's shit up. Ohio State needs to watch their asshole.

P.S. - sorry to hear you were in the hospital. Hope you are doing well now and I'll send a prayer your way 😉

On the first play shown above, the play side DT gets instant penetration. Banks is expected to block down on the DT, circled, who is playing 1? tech. I think Banks' split is too wide. He also took a terrible first step, unless he was intentionally trying to sell something else to delay the end. Combined, that is quite a tall task for a left tackle to finish the block. Both DTs did slant, which might have helped had Conner provided any resistance. Conner also managed to basically fall over and miss his own down block assignment too.

All of that mess blew up the play for the pulling lineman who never able to kick out the end and smash the MLB. Stringing it out allowed both linebackers to run freely at Blue for the tackle.

Our HS coach would say that we looked like a dog rolling around in cow shit.

Not sure what the offensive problem is but those mid-game naps will not work this week. We don't have a WR who refuses to be covered, an RB who thinks he is the best. Or a QB who will burn you no matter what you throw at him. It needs to be All Gas, No Brakes with the V12 tuned up.

Wouldn't the traditional counter to a D-line that jumps the gaps and is super aggressive slanting into us be the RB screen?  I know I've seen us throw a few of those this year and they've gone for good gains.  Where was that?

The counter is to let the D-line go where they want. Wash them completely down and create a cutback lane. However, that requires good TE/Receiver blocking. Our problem is our skill position blocking is shit. Our HC is trying to create a downhill running game with receivers that are the same size or smaller than the defensive backs they are trying to block. That's why we can't block receiver screens. On every running play one of them gets abused or whiffs on a block.

That said, every solid running team that Ohio State has played ran for over 100 yards on them so there is hay to be made there. Oregon got down so quickly that they stopped trying to run the ball. However, in their first meeting they ran for 155. Penn State ran for 120. Nebraska ran for 121. Michigan went for 172. Tenn went for 152. All of those teams just had shit quarterbacking. Any one of those QBs go for over 200 and they had a game. Ohio State just feasted on the inept teams they always do. They played Akron, WMU, and Marshall out of conference. Then they beat up on Sparty, IU, Northwestern, Indiana(we saw what the Domers did to them), and Purdue to get their lofty defensive stats.

My friends absolutely like fucking with me but me being a Texas fan is a HUGE part of that.

Go parse social media nationally following our game against ASU and look at how a very 50/50 targeting call gets treated like the worst officiating abomination in the history of the game.

We're the Yankees, man. We're the Lakers. This idea that Texas fans have some sort of misguided victim complex is insane. Look at all of the Horns down shit over the past 20 years from all of these teams that don't even regularly play us.

If you're a college football fan you cheer against Texas. That's what you do. We are the biggest brand in the sport and as such we get a ton of hate. It is what it is.

Exactly how many times do you think we ran ZR? I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure it was zero. If I'm wrong, it doesn't matter the number was so small it was insignificant in the grand scheme of the offensive game plan. It isn't and never will be a staple of the Sark offense with someone like Quinn as the QB.
