I don’t think I’ve seen 1 analyst or podcaster bro pick Texas. Usually there’s a few who pick the underdog, but nope not anyone I’ve seen or heard.

I would say I think tOSU folks are starting to not like that vibe because they’ve been playing up the “tOSU = David and Texas = Goliath” horseshit online but at the same time they are already penciling in Ohio State vs ND for the NC and how awesome it’s going to be. ND folks also think it’s just a forgone conclusion that they will be playing Ohio State for the NC and the (many) storylines with Freeman

It's not just well known morons like Mike Farrel (probably the dumbest commenter on CFB and I'll never understand how he still has any platform) but even Klatt who is one of if not the top analyst out there is caught up in recency bias.  I don't think it helped he was at the Rose Bowl and clearly didn't watch our game closely, but his analysis of the Peach Bowl was caveman level.  Focusing on the box score and completely ignoring all of the extremely low percentage plays that hit for ASU to get to those last few minutes (and that racked up a ton of those yards).  Our post game win expectancy per connelly metrics was like 90+%.  It was very similar to the Tech loss in Lubbock a couple of years ago (right down to fucked up TOP killing our D down the stretch due to scoring so quickly early on).  Everyone is completely taking the narrative that Texas was gifted the game by officials (ignoring the dozen plus patently absurd calls and no calls in ASU's favor) and forgetting that Ohio State has in fact looked human in games this year as well (and were similarly written off with speculation Day would be fired this time last month).  There is a reason this is a 6 point spread and not a 17 point spread but everyone is talking about this game like it's the latter.

OSU may very well win, and are rightfully favored, but the disrespect this team is being shown is a bit over the top.  Good.  I hope OSU listens to that shit all week and walks in expecting a cakewalk.

1000%. I listened to Klatt and it was very evident he did not watch the game. He said the Texas defense got abused all game by an inferior opponent and that the offense saved the day and was the only bright spot. It was comically bad. Pate at least admitted he only caught parts of the game and didnt lend much analysis on it.

I love how overlooked we are right now. That is when we play our best. I think we are gonna shock some people on Friday. Texas by 7.

Unless you have a quarterback who can really run our defense is going to make life miserable for you. ASU was the perfect storm. All trick plays hit. A QB who could run like a deer. A patient offense willing to dink and dunk us down the field. A midget RB that brought back memories of 2000 OU. A coach willing to go for it consistently. We just couldn't get off the field vs them but Ohio State isn't going to play with that level of desperation nor do they have those tools. Their QB is a plodder as far as runners go. Michigan picked him off twice and generally made life hard for him. If we play the way Michigan did but with a better QB we have as good a chance as any. Michigan's QB threw for 62 yards. That's right I said 62 yards and still threw two picks. And won the game. That was three games ago.

Bingo. I think our defense gets home enough on Howard to get some sacks and force some turnovers. He doesnt do well under duress and he isnt exactly a runner.

Just once, I would like to see Wingo actually get targeted more than 3 times a game. We have literally no idea how good he can be. He's been propped up by Bobby comparing him to Roy Williams and a freak, yet we haven't seen him go off. I just want to see him live hip to the hype he's been hyped up to be.

Saguaro talk not going away . . .

One reason I have for optimism about this game is that tOSU has developed their recent “juggernaut” reputation by blowing out two teams straight from the jump and coasting from there. They went up 21-0 on Tennessee in the 1st quarter and were up on Oregon 34-0 with 8 minutes left in the half. Texas, for all its faults putting teams away, typically gets off to good starts in games.  Our defense can get worn down in the 4th quarter due to lack of support from the offense (ASU game) or give up points early when the offense turns it over and repeatedly gives up short fields to the other team (1st UGA game), but no team has just marched up and down the field on this defense in the first half all season.

We have to get production from the offense in the first half and not turn it over, but if we do, it should be a game going into the 2nd half, and then things should get real interesting.  There’s a reason the spread is 6 points and not 12-14 like the talking heads seem to see this game.

Can anyone convince me to fly all the way to Dallas from the northeast for this game just to have SRO seats with my 13 yo son, vs enjoy the game in the comfort of our finished basement with surround sound on a comfy couch watching on a 75 inch TV with unlimited drinks and snacks? These ticket prices have been nuts (saw peach bowl decent seats for $150 or less), and can't justify the > $1200 price for just above shitty seats at Jerry World.

I wouldn't. Save up for the NCG if it happens. It's gonna be double.

NSIAP, but this youtube video from the guys at PFF college football has a very interesting analysis on the change in Ohio State success from Michigan to the Tennessee/Oregon games. A chief attribute was going from primarily a Chip Kelly inside zone team with an offensive line that wasn't capable of successfully executing it to a counter team. According to these guys OSU ran 50% of their running plays as counters, when the teams during the regular season that ran counter the most topped out about 35%. It also allowed success in the passing game building off of different looks in the counter attack to go play action.

It's a bit Ohio State heavy, but not overly so. I enjoyed the analysis:

Oh God, you’re going to give me flashbacks to the 2021 OU game. Our D may have improved a little against the counter since then, thankfully.

Definitely not for SRO. I think prices will go down some regardless but how much TBD.  I'm a buyer and not even looking at the market yet.  The other wildcard right now is potential for really shitty weather Thurs/Fri.  Has the potential to impact flights in, transport to DFW (and to game) and obviously ticket prices significantly depending on all of the above.   I don't think we'll have a good sense for at least another 2 days but at least the potential for a clusterfuck.

The last 4 teams left in the CFP this year are the elite teams from 1969, the Centennial Year of College Football.

Ohio State was the defending National Champion, and started the season ranked #1, followed by Arkansas, Penn State, Texas and USC.

By November, the polls had Ohio State #1, followed by Texas, Arkansas, Penn State and USC.

#1 Ohio State lost to #12 Michigan, breaking their 22-game winning streak...  The chorus from Austin? "Who’s Ohio State? Who's Ohio State?"

Texas beat A&M 49-12 to remain #1, setting up #1 Texas v. #2 Arkansas in the final game of the year.

#3 Penn State was certain to move up to #2, with the Texas-Arkansas winner destined to be #1. The Cotton Bowl invited undefeated Penn State play the undefeated SWC Champion, either Texas or Arkansas, in a #1 v. #2 Bowl Game.

Penn State declined the Cotton Bowl invitation and accepted the Orange Bowl bid to play #6 Missouri.

#1 Texas beats #2 Arkansas 15-14 in the Game of the Century and President Nixon presented the "National Champion" plaque to Texas after the game. (Back then, the AP Poll ended at the end of the season, before the bowl games.)

Arkansas accepted a Sugar Bowl Invitation to play the SEC Co-Champion, either #8 LSU or #11 Tennessee. LSU tried to arrange a matchup with Texas in the Cotton Bowl to play for the national championship. Those discussions fell through when #9 Notre Dame became available, breaking their longstanding policy against appearing in bowl game. Notre Dame accepted the Cotton Bowl invitation. The Sugar Bowl spurned LSU and Tennessee in favor of Ole Miss and Archie Manning.

Texas, led by James Street and Steve Wortser, beat Notre Dame and Joe Theismann in the Cotton Bowl 21-17, and was the Consensus National Champion, ranked #1 in both  the AP Poll (before the bowls) and the UPI Poll (after the bowls).

Penn State, after posting its 2nd consecutive undefeated, untied season was ranked #2. They were pissed. Probably still are, forever.

The final AP Poll:

  1. Texas
  2. Penn State
  3. USC
  4. Ohio State
  5. Notre Dame
  6. Missouri
  7. Arkansas
  8. Ole Miss
  9. Michigan
  10. 1UCLA

I’ve heard over the years about how pissed Penn State is over Texas being declared the champion by Nixon, but didn’t know they turned down a chance to play the UT-Ark in the Cotton Bowl. So fuck them.

They refused to play in a segregated state (players can’t stay at same hotel, etc.), so I can respect it.

You know, I’m probably getting my dates mixed up. I know that the black players on PSU’s squad were concerned about going to Texas, which they viewed as being less welcoming of black people at the time. But literal segregation was probably not the issue at that point.

still, I’m sympathetic to their concerns.

That may have been an issue for Syracuse in 1960 (Which, BTW, didn't prevent them from playing and winning) but not for PSU in 1969.  That is just the excuse they used to avoid getting their asses kicked.

Fuck that noise. Dallas in 1969 wasn’t anything for them to be concerned about.

More importantly though….Systematically raping little boys and covering it up bankrupts those cultist fuckstains from any sympathy for anything, forever.

The funny thing about Penn State getting upset at Nixon "declaring" Texas to be National Champions is that Nixon had no say in the matter.  Texas were National Champs based on going in to the last game of the season undefeated and ranked number 1, beating another undefeated team, number 2 ranked Arkansas in their own house.  Any belief that Penn State had that they should have been number 1 is just stupid and their decision to not settle the question on the playing field was cowardly.

My father  was telling me that yesterday as well. I fly enough onto DFW already on company dime, I'm not trying to get stuck there on my time.  So MM and I will not be making it to the game. Gonna be a shit show, if it does sleet/ice/etc

Good video...didn't know OSU was the #1 outside zone run defense in the country.  Yikes.
