Our patchwork O line was completely retooled after Michigan.   It will be an interesting area to watch.  The last two games our blocking has been incredible.  Mind boggling.

How? Did somebody transfer in after Michigan?

I wish our staff could magically re-tool things in the middle of the season.

We were getting blown up in A gaps.  Moved hub man from right guard to center and rotating two players at right guard.

schematically simplified assignments.   Block the person in front of you.  If no one is there take next level.

AND we started passing to open the run.  Perimeter stuff, Seams, zone busters, fast hitting with motion.

Just wanted to say thanks for being a productive member of this non productive surly society. Though I'm not totally convinced you aren't just being swarmy and I'm too dumb to notice.

I’m not sure I follow.   Lol

All we heard before Texas beat OSU's ass in their own house was that "They've never played in the Shoe, at night".  We had no chance was the upshot.

What exactly makes you think that can't happen again when the Buckeyes don't have the home field advantage?

Oh I am not saying Texas can’t or won’t wil.

I think if I look at the two bodies of work I like Ohio states better.   I really believe our defense overpowers Texas.  If that’s the case our offense has enough horsepower to go get the win.

Agree that it will come down to whose defense plays better. I will go with Texas. But this is why we play the game.

@BestNCountry

Touche.

Like Troph, if I was neutral and laying money on the game straight up I'd put it on OSU for all the obvious reasons.  Our lack of a consistent running game and Bond being pretty much a non factor over the last half of the season are a couple of things that I just can't see being overcome.

That said, I'm still gonna watch. 😉

Is that really looking at the ‘bodies of work’ or the last two weeks? Over the entirety of the season your offense didn’t have the horsepower to overpower a high school defense, spectacular individual efforts not withstanding.

You won’t find a Texas fan on this board who thinks we’ll beat Ohio State playing like we did last week. Most of us don’t think that will happen; did you feel the same way after losing to Michigan?

Reasonable take.  I am banking on shutting down the run game and Texas being one dimensional

you guys certainty have the team to win it all.

You know the Michigan defense that dominated you in your own house got dominated by Texas in their own house right?

Our dline is going to make life difficult for your offense in ways that Oregon and Tennessee couldn't. I don't buy that 3 weeks fixed your oline anymore than I bought the Clemson, Kentucky, or A&M games fixed our run game. Your team made a nice changeup and took advantage of good matchups. Howard is going to have to make reads against coverage and he is going to have to do it under pressure.

we should set the record straight on claimed national titles re: your winsipedia graphic

first, the horns, with our 4 "claimed" titles

63 unanimous: ap & upi

69 unanimous: ap & upi

70 split: ap #3 & upi #1

05: unanimous: bcs #1, ap #1 & upi #1

verdict: integrity

next, fosu, with their 8 "claimed" titles

42 "unanimous"* ap#1 (*upi started in 1950)

54 split: ap #1 & upi #2

57 split: ap #2 & upi #1

61 jk/lol: ap #2 & upi #2 -- fosu administration REJECTED a rose bowl invitation then used that as their excuse to claim the national title without a #1 finish in either poll

68 unanimous: ap #1 & upi #1

70 jk/lol: ap #5 & upi #2 -- get the fuck out of here with this shit

02 unanimous: bcs #1, ap #1 & upi #1

14 unanimous: cfp #1, ap #1 & upi #!

verdict: just a little duplicitous

of note, tossing the wartime 42 title that was AP-only prior to the start of the UPI/Coaches poll in 50, fosu and The University both have 3 unanimous titles

fosu still has more titles than Texas, but fosu also has aggy-level blemishes when you inspect the data in their "8" claimed titles

Unless you have a quarterback who can really run our defense is going to make life miserable for you. ASU was the perfect storm. All trick plays hit. A QB who could run like a deer. A patient offense willing to dink and dunk us down the field. A midget RB that brought back memories of 2000 OU. A coach willing to go for it consistently. We just couldn't get off the field vs them but Ohio State isn't going to play with that level of desperation nor do they have those tools. Their QB is a plodder as far as runners go. Michigan picked him off twice and generally made life hard for him. If we play the way Michigan did but with a better QB we have as good a chance as any. Michigan's QB threw for 62 yards. That's right I said 62 yards and still threw two picks. And won the game. That was three games ago.

Sir, Skattebo’s listed height (5’11”) is the same as Earl Campbell’s. Hell, Ricky was 5’10”. So was Sweetness. Good post otherwise but no need to slander such a noble and righteous measurement for the running back position.

We will win the game.

I just saw a presser with tOSU quarterback Will Howard.

We are in Will Howard's Head.

Here's the clip:

Watch this. Every bit of hos body language and indeed his demeanor tells you he's obsessed with Texas... which he says is the only XII team he couldn't beat. He's got a Longhorn in his brain.

We got this game.

Skattebo is NOT 5'11".  Not even close.

Don't believe everything you see in a program listing.

While I don’t expect there will be an announcement of any sort, I am hearing that Will Stone is a very realistic possibility to take over at placekicker for Bert Auburn this week.

Stone has taken multiple reps with the first team unit on field goals during practices.

And no, that is not a common occurrence. In fact, it’s the first time that Stone has taken first team reps all year long.

At this point with Bert fucking up in two big games of last three I am fine sitting him down. Use him for <25 yd FG from middle hash if he needs a consolation.
I would have zero faith in rolling Bert out for clutch kick at this juncture so what difference does it make if Stone gets shot?

It's pretty clear his confidence is shot. That miss at the end of regulation against ASU was pretty bad and well within his range.

I want to be wrong, but I think our luck runs out this weekend.  We've been playing with fire for weeks and tOSU is too good to do that with.

tOSU- 30

Tex- 24

Tex Off- 314

This is a pretty realistic scenario IMO. Now talk to me at the game and I'll tell you all about how we will destroy them.

IMO, the Texas offense doesn't need to be great this game (though it would be awesome if they were), but they just need to not go 3 and out for several drives and sap the energy out of the defense. This is also where it would be nice to have a decent punter. We pretty much need to get 2 first downs each drive to ensure we don't give OSU good field position.

To be fair, the same can be true about Will Howard being 0-for against Texas but people keep bringing that up as a reason we're going to win.

To be accurate, Howard's history of losing every game against Texas is not the reason we're going to win this one. The reason is not that he lost, but that he hasn't gotten over the losses, and he can't stop thinking about them.

Hell, he even lost to Maalik Murphy... he coulda won, but he "slipped".

Oops.

He's going to "slip" again - fumble, INT, miss a wide-open Smith, whatever.

Horns up, Horns down, it don't make a shit, Horns are in his head, and they don't leave any room for anything else.
