Show your work. No one on this site actually believes that. He is explosive in space, fast as fuck, but prone to fumbles and occasional dropped passes.

Explosive and fast as fuck is probably what you need here, though.  He’s going for 5.7/carry over the last two seasons, that’ll get it done.

I would love to see a bigger package for him all while praying he doesn't cough it up. He is either really good or fucking terrible it seems. If Blue has a good game running the ball, you guys are in a world of hurt.

Blue had probably the best game of his career against Clemson, and followed it up with four carries for five yards against ASU. We can’t get nothing from Bond and Blue combined. That’s a problem, as they are our fastest and most explosive players on offense.

I agree and this has been an issue for the offense since what, week six?

Curious what running scheme those teams used if they primarily got those yards running between the tackles or running outside plays. It seemed like our outside zone scheme floundered against faster, more athletic lines like Georgia or ASU, and flourished against bigger “stronger” lines like A&M.

Ohio State’s D isn’t as athletic as Georgia imo, but they are close and in theory have the makeup speed to catch up to our outside zone/screen plays. I wish Sark would have a little more willingness to run Gibson on inside zone because that sets up the RPO plays (like we did against Michigan and Florida), but I don’t think he has the willingness to change it up this late in the season.

Gibson has fumbled a ridiculous amount of times for as many touches as he has had. He was put on the shelf for three or four weeks during the middle of the season, was put in for one play, and fumbled again. I don't want Gibson anywhere near this game.

I think there’s an opportunity for you to hit a few big plays on the ground - Blue is a great back and when your OL clicks you’ll pop one.  I’d be very surprised if you’re able to sustain multiple drives by grinding it out - outside of Oregon in round 1, none of the teams you mentioned really did so.  For example Tenn got half of its rushing yardage (65 yards) on their last drive of the game with its starters vs our 3rd string.  PSU’s RBs averaged 2.4/carry - it was Allar and Warren of all people who boosted their rushing stats, and their offense totaled 6 points and 270 yards.

IMO your offense’s best chance is to establish an intermediate passing game to stress our LBs in coverage and pull them back from the LOS.  Styles has a lot of physical talent but he’s often out of position; JTT is a superior DE but he will overpursue a few times on the read option or RPO.  Then find the right circumstance to hit us deep over the top or with some misdirection in the run game.  Oregon did this well in October and I think you’ll be moderately successful at it - Quinn is certainly capable.  What will hurt you is the lack of a QB run game, so using Arch creatively (but sparingly) could boost you there.

I think Sark will come out like normal in big games. He will throw the ball. I could see a heavy dose of short passing game in the game plan.  I think getting Blue involved passing game could be big for the offense. Blue is Blue, but if you get him in space he is threat to go 70 yards. Running the ball will be tough.  Texas needs to optimize the the runs that are blocked well. Too many times this year RBs have been 1 on 1 with a safety and lose that battle. Have to win some of those this game. Need to get Wingo more involved. He is the best after the catch. I dont care if it is jet sweeps, reverse, screens, or simple slants. He is a play maker. Find a way to get him the ball 6-7 times.

Those two and Ewers have all alternated being different levels of injured since like week three. You could tell a real difference in Blue in the Clemson game, but then ASU and our bizarre run game happened.

I've noticed that penalties make sark do weird shit.

We won’t live with rpo slants in this game. Downs, the 6’4-6’5 edges and their backers’ splits will muddy those windows quite a bit.

not really the point, but OK. Just saying get your best after the catch player some touches.

This is a game where we are just going to have to go beat guys and make plays. I am not sure how I feel about that.

I think this is a game, where explosives will be at a premium. 8-10 plays drives vs either defense will be tough sledding. One reason I would like to see more Wingo and Blue (Blue in the passing game). I  say that even with the fear of Blue fumbling.

Not attacking your point, just adding to it. I agree that passing early and often is the way to go. Make them adjust, then start running up the gut

All good. I fully expect the run game to be mediocre at best. Would love to see 4 per carry, but that probably only happens if you get a 30+ yard run in there. OSU runs a lot of inverted Tampa 2. Not loving the deep ball with Quinn's propensity to throw moon balls and NFL safeties in a 2 high. Have to find ways to get players in space and they have to make someone miss.

Spread them out. Pass a lot. Then keep them spread and run up the middle. Dont bring in a couple of TEs and go bunch.

what constitutes a complete game?

Consistent intensity and execution for 4 quarters in all phases of the game.  Not success, because the other team has a say in that, but operating at or close to our potential for 4 quarters.  3 or less unforced error penalties like false starts and shit.  Have less turnovers than the opponent.  You know, the type of games Ohio State has played in the playoffs so far.  We haven't approached that in a long time, though Clemson was getting there.  If we do it on Friday, we win.

Here's to Sark and the other coaches pulling the right levers and pushing the right buttons with the team this week.

Need to get Blue in space more on the outside. RPO screens/swings designed for him (out of a 2 back set please) and giving him some outside runs would be great.

It would also be nice if the defense didn’t look like it was in on our huddle on every run play. We are so hot and cold that it either looks like that and we get completely shut down, or we run for 200-250 yards.

We haven't really had back to back clunkers in the running game, except maybe Georgia/Vandy (29/104)

Sark mentioned it in the presser a day or two after the game, but losing possessions had as much to do with the running game not getting started.

1. Opening drive, 2 pass plays TD (a great thing)

2. ASU fake punt , lose a possession there

3. Stop on 4th down at goal line, next play fumble, safety lose ball

4. Punt return TD (a great thing) lose a possession

The other one that I didnt hear him discuss in much detail is the Int. play to Bond deep down the middle...we were up pretty solidly with a chance to put the game away as we were starting to get some runs going on the drive.

So the run game woes in the ASU were somewhat masked by the game flow; not excusing it, but for me there is a difference between an excuse and a reason.

You mean the one where ASU got away with targeting?   Helmet to help.et...kmocked Bonds helmet off?....that one,?...

The refs fucked us regular. Good thing we are used to it....pardon my typing...hard to work the keyboard with all the hand wringing going on.

This ain't the '85 Bears we are playing.... I am going James Brown here and saying we win by 14....fuck em....

Is Sark gonna be able to figure out Jim Knowles this time? Those two matchups against him with Ok St did not go well..

Sark only faced him once at Ok. St (2021).

It was an 8 point loss with Casey Thompson at QB. He threw 2 ints.

Jaylen Warren broken it off in our ass and rushed for 193 yds.

If you really want to get depressed go and look at who else was starting on offense for Texas outside of Bijan.

Sark isn't perfect but to represent that loss as being outcoached by Knowes is disingenuous at best. It was a 1st year Head Coach in a rebuild vs a 4th yr DC that finished in the Top 10 and won the Fiesta Bowl.

If not for backbreaking Casey Thompson pick six as we drive into score, we win that one.

Huge 14 point swing difference there.

Walking through Prague just now and found the most unexpected of souvenirs. I’m taking it as a good omen.

Also lol at Blue being the tiny one with no front number.

I think it is a good omen. Back in 2005, my brother brought me back a similar set from Russia with VY, David Thomas, Charles, Selvin, and Sweed. We know how that turned out

Man, I'm an idiot for buying tickets last Saturday.  Same tickets are now half the price.  I could have had borderline field seats for what I paid or upper section of lower bowl.

Except for the 2005 rose bowl ticket prices always surge up then fall as game day approaches.

this years national championship game could be odd too with ND or PSU - both huge followings and pent up demand going back 30 years at least for both teams.  Especially PSU.

Winter storm is tanking the prices.
