Was the theory of OSU changing up their offense from Michigan game to playoffs ever discussed? Has anyone done a detailed breakdown of why that was a theory?

There was an hour-long YouTube video released several days ago that talked about this.
They said that Ohio switched to a Mike Norvell offense which was suggested by their new running backs coach or some analyst or something.

Can't find the video anymore, but it was a very good listen.
I'll keep looking.

It was two or three guys talking back and forth.

It's around the 10:45 mark:

Nerds on the game. Daniel thinks Ohio State covers while Josh says OSU but they don't cover.

First analysis that I've seen where someone actually mentions Anthony Hill by name.

Spoiler

This is absolutely correct. The OL has clearly benefitted from a month of practice in this configuration since the M loss, and apparently some scheme changes to simplify their assignments have helped them out as well (although I’m no Xs+Os guy so I’ll leave that to others).  But the depth is razor thin, a couple guys are inexperienced, and the best player (Jackson) is playing tackle instead of his natural spot at guard.  Your DL can and must blow up the LOS - I think it’s likely the single-most important aspect of the game.

Greg McElroy talked about this as one of his keys and thinks it's not getting enough attention. Like you I think this is the matchup Texas must win - we have an advantage here and need to exploit it.

Exactly. I don’t know if she is just that dense, or ESPN required her and Finebaum to take different sides of the issue and she drew the short straw.

On Franklin, the question was just about the Cotton Bowl matchup, not the whole final four, but I’d agree about him.

It's the latter. She could barely get the take out without laughing.

Damn, she was porcine even back then. I've got three projects going right now, all at the same time: Constructing a true perpetual motion machine, structuring a lasting peace in the Middle East, and figuring out how that ugly bitch still has a job. Of the three, that last one is by far the most challenging.

The OSU DL hasn’t drawn an offensive holding call since early November 2023, and nobody else has since this year’s game against Marshall.  So my suggestion is to hold away.

What a holding matchup we have....

I'd wager this is the game they finally draw holding penalties.

I didn't realize that in the year 2025, there would be college football fans without ESPN.

That said, you can sign up for a free Fubo trial , or go to StreamEast , or somebody on here will assuredly post a link.

Hard for me to comprehend that someone can't figure out how to watch this game without a subscription in the first place. The answer is always at the tip of your fingers. I regularly watch on regular YouTube even though I have Hulu, there will be multiple streams.

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6041999/2025/01/06/how-the-new-deal-between-disney-and-fubo-will-impact-how-fans-consume-sports-tv/

Also, there was a good article in the Athletic yesterday about what the Hulu+LiveTV/Fubo merger is all about, and ESPN's plans to be able to offer just an ESPN subscription (but I have to assume that if you don't have ESPN then you don't have access to the NYTimes/Athletic so here it is spoilered below).

Spoiler

How the new deal between Disney and Fubo will impact how fans consume sports TV

The corporate maneuvering  over your sports viewing dollars may offer more drama than some of the games that you pay to watch.

The streaming wars that have been bubbling under the surface of the TV business are now fully upon us. The emerging digital powers, Amazon Prime Video, Google YouTubeTV and recently Netflix have announced their arrival with NFL, NBA, WWE and, perhaps soon enough, UFC deals.

The old guard — ESPN, Fox, NBC, CBS and TNT Sports — have seen them on the horizon, but their streams are now in full view. To fight back the digital behemoths, the traditional players are forming new alliances.

That is why Disney’s latest salvo to maintain ESPN as the eternal sports empire has it combining its Hulu + Live TV business with Fubo, a direct result of the emerging threat.

ESPN is trying to live up to its credo: “To Serve Sports Fans. Anytime. Anywhere.”

It is a nicer, corporate way of saying: We would like everyone to pay us.

ESPN’s chairman Jimmy Pitaro and his right-hand executive, Burke Magnus, first created a sports-rights moat by outlying nearly $80 billion over the past seven years for the NFL, NBA, college football and MLB, among other properties. Now, it wants to conquer distribution, which ESPN once dominated but now is being overrun by the Netflix, Amazon, Google and the like.

ESPN once had 100 million cable and satellite subscribers and now has 65.3 million, according to Nielsen’s latest tally.

The combined Fubo and Hulu + Live TV has 6.2 million subscribers and represents a legit competitor to YouTube TV’s platform that approaches 10 million subscribers. (The Athletic has a commercial partnership with Fubo.)

ESPN is available on YouTube TV, as well, but Disney has no ownership stake in the Google platform.

Further, the agreement between Disney and Fubo effectively settles the Fubo-led litigation from earlier this year that has prevented Venu Sports – the joint venture to present ESPN, Fox Sports and TNT Sports in what the cool media kids like to call a “skinny bundle” — from launching.

Venu does not have the full green light, but March Madness feels like a potential starting point. The idea of ESPN, Fox and TNT Sports combining would have been blasphemy a decade ago, but these entities are trying to survive and thrive in a Netflix world.

For consumers, it all still remains way too messy to try to figure out where, how and for how much to watch all these games. ESPN’s goal is to meet you, wherever you are.

In the late summer, likely August, ESPN will offer its “flagship” direct-to-consumer product, which The Athletic has previously reported is right now aiming at the $25-30 per month range. ESPN flagship will give consumers access to all of the network’s programming without any other subscriptions.

Venu Sports, the ESPN/Fox/TNT confab, announced its initial offering would be $42.99 per month, though that is likely to quickly jump to $45-50 per month. Like YouTube TV, Fubo and Hulu + Live TV will be in the $70-80 range with more channels besides sports. Each customer pays about $10 for ESPN’s channels in these bundles.

Do you see ESPN’s plan? ESPN wants to be available to entice consumers at different price points. You will be able to access it in the $10 range as part of the $70-80ish YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV or Fubo universe, or at $25-30 per month as an ESPN standalone, or potentially with Venu at $45-50 per month.

ESPN already enters the battle with maybe the greatest set of rights in sports TV history as it includes Super Bowls, NBA Finals, college football championships, Stanley Cups and more. There is not much to bid on in the near-term, except for UFC.

Amazon Prime Video already added the NBA to its NFL offerings. NBC/Peacock swiped the NBA from TNT Sports.

And, now, here comes Netflix.

It is lurking, playing at a global scale. With its Christmas NFL games, it has a relationship with the most powerful professional sports league in the world. It recently inked the Women’s World Cup for the next two tournaments.

Netflix is just beginning a decade-long agreement with WWE, with its first live telecast airing Monday Jan. 6. Like WWE, TKO owns UFC. UFC is currently a part of ESPN, but Netflix is considered a strong contender for the next deal.

And this is how we got to Monday’s Disney-Fubo announcement. ESPN wanted to maintain its Fubo subscribers, keep Venu alive and create a YouTube TV competitor. It can’t afford to lose anymore with Netflix and Amazon having unlimited resources.

It’s the corporate game inside the game for how you watch your games.

Yeah, Franklin has a big game problem and Day was on the hot seat after the UM loss. Those two have the pressure

Sark also has a big game problem that he can quiet forever on Friday.  He has the best QB left in the playoff and arguably the best defense.  It's time to go win it all.

I've used an IPTV service called "Streemingly" for over a year and it is great. Has just about any channel you could want from across the globe. Pay per view events, UFC, etc. I am paying for the "3 streams at once" package which is like 45 GBP (yeah, he is based in England) every 3 months. Or 15 a month. Anyway, works for me.

If you don't want to do a service, just get a free trial for Youtube TV, Hulu, etc.

Old Guard SEC just doesn't get how little Texas cares about being in the SEC.  I mean, it's fine, we're making more money and we get games against some new faces, but there's absolutely no pride or ego tied up in being associated with this conference.

Texas is carrying the banner for Texas and nothing else.

I think the reverse is also true. I don't think other schools in the SEC really see us as carrying the SEC banner. It's kind of a bad look for the conference that the new team came in and ran it (T'vondre was right). Texas is in it for Texas, and concurrently the SEC hasn't tried to embrace Texas as one of their own. As it should be.

One of the Longhorn internet commentators mentioned the shift to gap blocking. I went back and watched the MI, TN and OR games. The PFF guys did a great statistical breakdown of the change also.

I’ve been watching games on YouTube, but the mouse came down hard on the Texas ASU game and all the streams were cut off.

Missed that as I was at a sports bar, seen them cut them off before, search again and it will pop up somewhere else usually.

I've been noticing this year that someone will invariably be streaming it on YouTube, too.

During the fiasco when Direct TV was blocked out of ESPN games, I was at a local sports bar with some people who wanted to watch Alabama. They gave me the remote, I turned it on Youtube on the game and everyone was happy.

It’s been that way the last several years. When it gets to the playoffs, they crack down. Regular season and lesser bowls? No problem. The playoffs? Forget about it.

I think that OSU will look to mirror what ASU did against us defensively, holding us to what? 16pts in regulation? and they'll try to improve on the ASU defensive weaknesses. The one hole they'll leave us will be the long ball, because they'll risk that Quinn will continue to underthrow those receivers. If they'll have a weakness, that's it. Quinn has to make those throws to get them out of their gameplan.

I'd like to see us control the ball, I just don't think the running game is up to it. On the other hand, two or three early long passing TDs will force them to adjust and hopefully Sark will make them pay with some sustained drives. If Ewers can't make those throws, our D is in for another epic struggle, and it'll take more than 16 pts to win it.

Would be nice if the D forces a couple of turnovers. Might be worth the gamble to up the pressure on their QB. We have a good secondary who can make some big plays on underthrown passes..

Man, that's being generous. It's easy to forget how much we sucked offensively for most of that game. Like, we had 14 points with about 10 minutes left in the first quarter, and finished regulation with 24 points. That's 10 points in basically an entire football game, against a defense we should have seriously dominated.

Time of possession was the main defense for our offense. That and poor run blocking for much of that game.
Sark likely wasn’t calling plays aggressively to limit opportunities for them to create a big play on defense, which is something they’d feasted on all year.

As Matt Mitchell on his SEC spoof says, we don't count.

And we should NEVER do an "SEC, SEC, SEC" chant unless it is to mock someone in the SEC.  Just like the whole SWC did when Arkansas left for the SEC and oblivion.
