So now we are in 3rd and 12. Sark finally trots out 11 personnel but the probability of picking this up low. Arizona State does a great job of covering the receivers downfield. Quinn tries to take off but gets sacked. This all starts from 1st down. We have to call better 1st down plays.

Omg QE looks so slowwwwww in this clip.

You need to watch this play. Everyone is blocking. Moore is way down field blocking. Whoever is on the left sideline at WR is blocking. Perhaps the WR is running go on the right, but based on everything else more likely he is just running him off. Dorbah ignores the Rb and goes straight at Quinn. The run actually has a chance. There is no pull to throw option here. It’s hand off or pull to run.

Do we or anyone else run an RPO to throw a go route?

Looking at the end zone view, I thought Dorbah might have been able to get Wisner, but that side view makes it look unlikely.  It could have been a pull, but we rarely do that, and I’d think we’d try to get the read DE chasing across the formation rather than playing upfield.  That’s not to say the QB wouldn’t decide to pull it.  Also would be odd for him to escape right when you’re kicking that DE out.

the whole thing is mystifying. It is not RPO. I agree Texas rarely runs read option and it would be odd to trap the end on a read option. I think Quinn just spaced on the play. If Wisner spaced, you would think it would  be a fumble, but that is pure speculation. Very strange play

Or, you know, a receiver didn't do what he was supposed to.

Such a dumb take. Football coaching is very much a nepotistic/who you know business. You could be an offensive X’s and O’s savant and it means fuck all if you don’t know the right people. It’s not Walmart where you just apply for a job…..

I mean look at someone like Arthur Smith, what exactly the fuck did that guy accomplish to be rewarded with an NFL job?

Most well paid jobs and careers fall into this category. But somehow, people continue to break into them by putting in the effort and making the necessary connections.
If I had the talent and desire to be great at something like being a professional football coach, I’d go be an underpaid high school coach and network like a motherfucker until I got an opportunity as a analyst with a decent coaching staff.

That being said, it’s a message board. People are gonna talk and comment on stuff like this with limited info for the sake of killing time and driving conversation.

Wisner doesn't seem surprised to not get the ball. Golden also looks like he is running a real route to me and even turns and looks for the ball at the 34. Moore and Goosby both appear to intentionally stay within 3 yards of the LOS on their blocking. Wingo (I think) at the bottom of the screen is setup to block, but isn't initiating contact downfield. It is almost like we are running two different plays.

I just dont see that. Wingo is doing the typical backside WR blocking thing. He gets downfield, gets in between, and waits for a reaction.  Moore gets into the NB and walls him off (nice block). Goosby is firing off at the LB, lunges at him, and misses. Golden could be running a route, but a go route on an RPO would be highly unusual. Read option looks like the play, until you see the guard pulling and Texas rarely runs it. Not sure what is going on here. Maybe someone else on here can figure it out. All I know is the hand off was the call. Quinn was DOA holding the ball there.
