The Blake Lively (Ryan Reynolds's wife) Controversy

Why? He seems like a pretty laid back, funny guy. Opposites attract.

Ryan screamed at Justin Baldoni for having his trainer ask Lively how much she weighed. This was for a scene where Justin had to lift Lively. He previously had back surgery and didn’t want to hurt himself, and this is what Blake claimed was “fat shaming.” The Sony exec who was at the meeting said they had never seen anyone yell at someone else like that in all their years in the business. And the OG director of Deadpool left because Ryan was doing the same shit too. It’s a pattern with this couple.

Reynold's exact words: "Keep my wife's weight out your fuckin' mouth!"

Man, I read the last coupla days worth of posts on this thread.  And I tried to give a shit.

And I just can't.

Some attractive rich people are attacking each other for reasons I don't really understand.  But in that dispute, one of them must be an angel and the other must be a devil.  I could try to expend some energy to figure out which is which....but I just can't seem to give a single fraction of a fuck.

A powerful and narcissistic abuser has been exposed and will have to pay the consequences. That's a good thing and a win for society.

Maybe the details bore you, but I'm sure you agree with the above.

You’re like me who didn’t give a fuck about all of this, but after seeing the movie with my wife and noticing how much she hated it (when stuff like this is always her thing) I started digging into the controversy.

Watching interview clips of Blake Lively made me notice how awful of a person she is. Just watch one clip of her in an interview and she gives you the Tom Herman snobby attitude about things like you’re a fucking moron. It’s so off putting and once you see it you can’t unsee it. I don’t believe a word that comes out of her mouth.

This. There’s a reason why Deadpool printed money and Reynolds couldn’t get arrested in another big movie. Yes, i know Free Guy is an exception.

I watched whatever was posted earlier of the interview with both her and Parker. There's a lot of nervous energy in that room and you can see Blake didn't react well to the interviewer, who comes off as someone who didn't want to be there. I don't see what the big deal is - movie promotion/press junket type interviews frequently go wrong and can be awkward. It's easy for one question to rub someone the wrong way in that type of situation. You can also see Parker was extremely weird in that clip.

Anyway...never heard of Baldoni before now, nor did I see the movie. (Nor will I.) Was surprised to learn he's someone apparently powerful in Hollywood. He seems like a creep. Team Blake all the way and I don't gaf if she's a nice person or not. I do think she's being attacked in a misogynistic way, just as Amanda Heard was.

Did you follow the Depp v Heard trial closely? Amber Heard is a shitty person (no pun intended) and the trial exposed her as a liar who manipulated both Johnny Depp and Elon Musk. Amber painted herself to be a great person who donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the ACLU when really it was Elon who donated the money in her name because she was sleeping with him in Depp’s penthouse while Depp was away shooting a movie. James Franco too. All of this was captured in footage from their private elevator. Amber Heard made herself out to be a victim of domestic violence by Depp and an advocate for victims when she was the one who had been arrested in an airport for assaulting her girlfriend a few years prior. Heard posted an op ed about her experience with Depp (as an unnamed abuser) in the Washington Post and this is what caused Depp to sue her because it killed his reputation.

This is similar to what Blake Lively did with leaking info to the NYT for the article to smear Justin Baldoni. People immediately turned against him before more evidence came out and changed the perception of Lively’s accusations. The evidence coming out from Baldoni is painting Lively as a liar. Lively claimed she was almost nude during a scene with only a piece of cloth covering her genitalia when really she was wearing briefs and had a hospital gown on. Lively said Baldoni subjected her to a birthing scene with his friend as the OB GYN to humiliate her when his friend is actually a trained actor with an MFA in theatre with an extensive resume. Lively claimed Baldoni told her to take off her jacket because “it will be hot” but he has footage of him telling her to do so not to harass her, but because it was 90 degrees with no AC in the small bar they were filming in. All of this stuff is on film and the text messages between the two paint a very different relationship than what Lively claims happened between them.

I've yet to express a position on the topic as I like to see the full body of evidence prior to formulating an opinion. There is still more discovery in the Lively case but thus far it doesn't look good for her.

The jury is out on Heard. She was not the victim rather the manipulative predator. Women like Heard actually HURT the ongoing issues Women face in all facets of equality and abuse. They provide evidence to support negative aspects of vicitim blaming in legitimate cases of abuse or workplace harassment. It's counter intuitive and illogical that despite evidence people claiming to be womens rights advocates support these sorts of people. They should be enraged by them, not supportive of them. It's clear certain, unfortunately large, segments of our population have zero objectivity when looking at various situations. I blame the internet in large part and just lazy critical thinking skills.

Shitty people exist in all races, sexes and religions. Be against shitty people, not always just pro some cause.

Yes, having impressions based on what you've read is "weird." Next time a hollywood gossip matter comes up I'll be sure to ask you for the contact number for the fella who's briefing you. edit - to see a bunch of men attacking some random woman that they don't know certainly raises "issues" and is problematic. We absolutely saw the same misogynistic bullshit with Heard as we've seen with Lively, whether one was in the right or not. "Oh my god she tried to give out the web address for her skin care line. What a whore!" "Oh my god she slept with _____. What a sleaze!" Get fucked.

I don't care about this latest Hollywood gossip any more than I did Amber Heard's. Which is to say, exceptionally little. Thus, I don't have an opinion about either because I know virtually nothing about them. You, on the other hand, were able to determine--and have maintained--that Amber Heard was "attacked in a misogynistic way" while ignoring the actual trial meant to uncover the truth. Remarkable.

That a coordinated, misogynistic attack has been organized against Blake Lively seems indisputable at this point if you read the NYT article or watched the clip that Baldoni released. Perhaps I'm wrong. I'm open to correction. But I did read the text message from Baldoni's pr team when he began the social media onslaught against her.

It's possible to have an opinion about something based on one's life experience yet know next to nothing about a particular situation. For example, I know a fair amount about sexual harassment, and an abuser putting out information that "SHE WANTED IT" is one of the first plays out of their playbook.

As far as Amber Heard goes, my lord, that seems like forever ago and when I formed my opinion it was based on specific evidence or testimony. I don't remember much if anything about the trial and unless I were the sort of person with incredible recall about what I've seen or read, I think it would be extremely weird if I did.

In Blake Lively's situation, I take it you weren't there to witness any of it. But I see posters on here, perhaps you among them, basically calling her a liar and bitch because of her behavior during an interview from 2016, or because of what she did or didn't do during filming the recent movie. The fact is none of us knows what happened. You won't get the whole story from a portion of one video. And you getting on your high horse because I initially expressed a lightly held opinion is fucking laughable.

If each of these individuals were torn asunder by a pack of syphillitic Sasquatches, the world would be a better place. These are all vainglorious cuntknuckles that wouldn’t piss on a puppy if it was on fire. Ideally each of them suffers consequences from their dogshit behavior but this is America and likely they’ll just go along making gobs of money while continuing to be walking talking nuggets of shit.

THR yesterday - https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/it-ends-with-us-video-intimacy-coordinator-1236116142/

Quote

The nearly 10-minute video shot in May of 2023 shows three takes of a scene from It Ends With Us, which is based on a 2016 Colleen Hoover novel, when Lively and Baldoni’s characters, Lily and Ryle, are beginning their romance. A script excerpt that flashes on screen at the start of the video reads, “EXT BAR – NIGHT. Lily and Ryle slow dance in the bar. Patrons around them drinking and watching sports. Completely in their own world.”

The Hollywood Reporter asked Mia Schachter, an intimacy coordinator who has worked on Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry and FX’s American Crime Story, to watch the footage and share their thoughts.

What stands out to you as an intimacy coordinator when you watch this scene?

The first thing is that he is trying to kiss her, and they clearly haven’t discussed that ahead of time, and she keeps pulling away and clearly doesn’t want to do that.

Normally if you were going to shoot a scene where characters are kissing, would you discuss that beforehand?

An intimacy coordinator would. But there’s two main reasons why people bring on an intimacy coordinator: either simulated sex or nudity. Anything else that could be considered intimate, we’re not always present or required. In a scene like this, it’s really common that you wouldn’t bring on an intimacy coordinator because there’s no simulated sex or nudity, and there’s not even kissing written into the scene. We saw that from that script excerpt. I know that there were two intimacy coordinators credited on this film, but it doesn’t surprise me at all that they wouldn’t have had an intimacy coordinator present for this scene. An intimacy coordinator would have been very clear: “We’re not doing any kissing. This is the kind of touch that is on the table. Nothing else is, we’re not going to bring anything into the scene that we haven’t discussed prior.”

What do you think the power dynamic is between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in this scene?

Even though she’s Blake Lively and can say no and isn’t going to be fired for speaking her mind the way that somebody else might fear, she still has to keep working with him and keep the peace and play nice. I can just see her trying to stay lighthearted and in good spirits about it and not upset him or anybody, and not waste anybody’s time. But of course, she is trapped between a rock and a hard place. I can see her appeasing him and trying to keep a smile on her face.

In terms of the hierarchy on a set, he is in charge. But it can be very murky. Obviously, she’s the star, the household name on the project. I didn’t know who he was until this movie, but I have known who she is for many years, and so she’s not powerless. I would say she has a significant amount of power here. But regardless, he is the director and she’s supposed to take direction from him. I was sort of surprised that this is the clip that his team leaked.

Baldoni’s team sees this clip as vindicating of him.

Right. And I see the opposite. When someone has [Lively’s] level of fame and recognition, they do have a certain amount of power, but there’s always the actor-director relationship, and the director’s in charge.

If you were an intimacy coordinator during this scene, how would you handle this?

In prep, we would have discussed what we wanted it to look like. I would have spoken to him about, “As a director, what are you hoping to see?” And hopefully he would have said, “I would love to see them kiss. I would love to see my character kiss her neck and brush her hair out of her face” and things like that. And then I would have a conversation with her about her comfort and what she was OK with doing. For an actor, if they know the plan ahead of time and they’re not caught off guard, they’re often open to trying things. The problem here was that none of this was planned or discussed.

A scene like this looks so harmless on the page. What could go wrong?

I wouldn’t even have flagged it to discuss with a director based on what that excerpt says of the scene description. They’re just slow dancing. There’s not any mention of any kind of physical intimacy.

I guess that’s why she’s so taken by surprise. This is really improv. Some of what is contested is what they’re saying to each other as well. This is not scripted dialogue that they’re having. This is a conversation between two people out of character, which is not intended for the audience to hear. Would you intervene on something like that?

If I were hearing what’s in this clip, none of it stands out to me as something where I would need to intervene. I even thought it was kind of sweet that they were talking about their own real-life partners. It was kind of awkward, but it was not inappropriate. And it was sort of reminding each other, we have lives outside of this.

But if I heard someone saying the things that I read that he had said [in Lively’s lawsuit], jokes about dick size and things like that, I would have to intervene. But that even puts an intimacy coordinator in a really difficult position because he is also the director. Then it’s like, who do you go to? If you’re afraid that he has an ego that would lead him to have any kind of reaction that could stall shooting, then you become the villain. I would be afraid to be fired, quite honestly.

They have this exchange where he apologizes for his beard, and then she apologizes for her spray tan, and then he says that it actually smells good. According to her lawsuit, him saying that she smelled good bothered her. Do you have any reaction to that?

This clip really shows how complex it is, because obviously to say that in character makes sense. To say that out of character, it’s not inherently wrong or inappropriate, but when there has been mounting discomfort and mounting line crossings, I can see how that becomes yet another thing that was out of line.

Talk to me more about the distinction between being in character and out of character. We hear about actors staying in character for a whole shoot, even when they’re at craft services. Here, they’re talking as Blake and Justin, not as the characters they’re playing. But they’re also being shot by a camera for a scene where they’re supposed to be two people falling in love. What do you make of the idea of perhaps he’s bringing an element of this character that he’s supposed to be playing?

The headline of the [Daily Mail] story with that video is “Who’s Lying?” I don’t think either one of them is lying. I think they’re both talking from their own experience. They are really strongly disagreeing about things like professionalism, etiquette, what’s appropriate, what’s not, what it means to be an actor. There are actors still who are like, “This should all be organic.” And “Oh, I’m sorry I pushed you. I was in the moment.” Most, if not all, intimacy coordinators and stunt coordinators would say, “You just don’t do that. You don’t kiss someone if you haven’t talked about it ahead of time.” In Hollywood, in the not too recent past, that was not out of the ordinary. That doesn’t mean that it was OK, but we were operating with a different set of standards.

In terms of the smell comment, to me, it’s less about that particular comment and whether or not it was a straw that broke the camel’s back type of situation. It’s like she’s got a running list of moments where she felt uncomfortable and pushed, and that things that were inappropriate were happening. That line to me is something that you may not even notice if you feel comfortable and safe.

Is there anything else you want to say about this video?

In a scene like that, without an intimacy coordinator, I think it was his responsibility to ask Blake, “Hey, what do you think about kissing in this scene?” if that’s what he wanted to see. But he didn’t ask her or even mention that it was something he wanted to shoot — he just went for it. She pulled away, and then he did it again. He definitely should have communicated that that was what he wanted to shoot, but he didn’t. To me, that’s pretty damning, both as an actor and a director.

The cast (including Jenny Slate) and author (Colleen Hoover) also took Lively's side from the start, and they will all feel the blowback as well. Hoover deleted her IG yesterday. She had 2 million followers. All her young female readers are furious with her.

This is a ridiculously long deep dive in to the case, but these two young women are intelligent and easy on the eyes if you want to get into the details. They initially backed Lively when she made the accusations, and have now done a 180. This is a powder keg situation and will create long lasting ramifications in Hollywood IMO.

Take a breath, man. I'm sorry that it's inherently funny that you came to the defense of Amber Heard and then immediately admitted that you hadn't followed the trial even a little bit.

Like others have alluded to, people like Heard do other women a disservice by giving misogynists ample "bitches be lying" ammo and making it even more daunting for victims to come forward.

My only other opinion on this thread was to remark how gross it is that a profession exists to slander people on the internet for money and how far-reaching and effective it is. I have no opinion on Blake Lively beyond that because I lack the the ability to care enough to learn more.

So get fucked to you too, sir.

Your reading comprehension seems to suck. Tell me more about Amber Heard. Did you follow the trial? Were you a witness to her behavior at any point? Do have great recall of what transpired? Or, like me, did you read and see bits and clips here and there and get left with a distinct impression based on your own life experience, or lack of it?

When Lively initially made the accusations about Baldoni and I briefly heard about it, I fully assumed she was telling the truth. I only really knew of Baldoni because he's a Baha'i (my family is too) and he - along with Rainn Wilson - are probably the two most well known celebrities who openly talk about their faith. And my first reaction was "of course this pious acting person ends up being an abusive asshole". I'm full of cynicism and it makes sense to me.

But then the accusations were countered with actual evidence, and it's clear that Lively is a real piece of shit. That's not to say Baldoni isn't, I don't know. But so far in court of public opinion, Lively is understandably getting crushed.

Here is the amusing irony of some posters here and all over the interwebs. Automatically assuming that a woman can't be evil, manipulative or shitty and any accused male in the equation is ALWAYS at fault is actually extremely misogynistic itself. It takes on the white knight, poor defenseless women cloak and it's just as fucking shitty as victim blaming. Much worse so, when not only do those same misogynistic assholes refuse consider all the evidence but actively ignore evidence that supports that a woman is, GASP omg no wai!, capable of being evil, cruel, manipulative and generally a piece of shit human. This chick I used to date LOVED Justin Baldoni, and recommended his podcast or audiobook or whatever it was. I made it about 5 minutes and couldn't keep my eyes from rolling out of my head.

I don't understand the assertion that Ryan Reynolds is some all powerful Hollywood titan, and would force Taylor Sheridan to fire Spencer from 1923 if he didnt take his wife's side in the press tour.

Hmm, after reading this thread and giving all sides of the debate their due attention and consideration, I have concluded that a ménage with Blake and Amber when they were 25 sounds more potentially dangerous and long-term frustrating/expensive than it always played out in my head four thousand times.

Seals & Croft were active evangelists in their time. Texas Monthly had a really cool article about them and the song Summer Breeze a few years back. (apologies for thread derail)

Tell me you might be a complete moron without telling me.  If you weren't a witness or one of the involved parties you have the same amount of knowledge about it as I do. Or less. Also take some time to look up the definition of 'prejudice.'

Some of you get so triggered because someone else decides to argue a point of view that's different from your own, apparently deeply held, preconceived notions. It's pathetic.

"Misogynistic"

"Problematic"

Just waiting on you to drop a "Gaslighting", and we'll have hit the trifecta. Are you a 19 year old girl?

I find your gaslighting language problematic. You should act more demurely if you want to be an iconic poster, Book-tok out front should have told you.

I have no idea what you're talking about. Are you 15? How about you just stick to facts or at the very least try to make an argument.

I know all the evidence hasn't come out yet and I'm being presumptuous, but this is shaping up as a classic case of narcissistic abuse.

The Narcissist: Blake Lively

The Victim: Justin Baldoni

The Flying Monkeys: Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Swift, Colleen Hoover, and the rest of main film cast

Watch this video with those roles in mind:

None of us were witnesses. Some of us are looking at actual video evidence as it is released to help form an opinion.
But coming in hot with something like this

That a coordinated, misogynistic attack has been organized against Blake Lively seems indisputable at this point if you read the NYT article or watched the clip that Baldoni released. Perhaps I'm wrong. I'm open to correction. But I did read the text message from Baldoni's pr team when he began the social media onslaught against her.

It's possible to have an opinion about something based on one's life experience yet know next to nothing about a particular situation. For example, I know a fair amount about sexual harassment, and an abuser putting out information that "SHE WANTED IT" is one of the first plays out of their playbook

And then accusing others of deeply held preconceived notions is certainly a take

I posted an article just above with analysis of the video provided by a professional film intimacy coordinator - not one of you chucklefucks who are just looking to get angry about some random actress. Perhaps you ignored it because you're only looking for posts that call Blake Lively a dumb cunt?

edit - and to set this sad, pathetic record straight, you said I was "prejudice." I told you to look up the definition. I get the feeling you still don't understand the meaning and why and how you misused the term.

I’m not angry. I’ve seen the actual video (with audio) of him doing none of what she accused him of doing in said video. I don’t need a play by play from an intimacy coordinator of that video. I’m just going to believe my lyin eyes.

Yes it's great to limit your own education and believe you're an expert on things you know nothing about. I'll be putting you ignore now that I know exactly what type of trash you are.
