Hopefully all the flights from Columbus/Cincy/Pitt, etc. getting cancelled.  That shit fanbase deserves it.

Big ass snowflakes in North Dallas right now.   Main event supposed to come tonight.

Can't be.  Our overlord told us it's just gonna be rain.  I think he even threw in an LMAO

I think temp maybe 1-2 degrees cooler than expected resulting in snow here.  Kids are excited.  Regardless, think it's pretty safe to say would not be a good idea to leave early from Austin tomorrow.  Roads will be nasty most of Friday AM

We have sleet in east of White Rock Lake. I repeat, we have sleet east of White Rock Lake.  We have commenced to jarring our urine.

An update. The sleet has turned to a light snow east of White Rock Lake. We have started gathering items to use as kindling in case the power goes out and we have to stay warm. We are fashioning a makeshift snow plow in case we have to tunnel our way out.

In all seriousness, there are reports of vehicles crashing on overpasses around the Metroplex. There's a semi hanging off 114 and Grauwyler which is near the site of where Texas Stadium was. Overpasses are going to be a problem so drive safely around this, which are plentiful.

I live nearby. I'll hitch the team and load up our wagon with provisions and head your way.

Buddy of mine grew up in Miami.  Went to Miami and his first job was in Boca.  He was transferred to Burlington, VT, and was convinced that he'd never miss work because of snow.  So, he bought a truck with a plow, and backed it into his driveway.  On the first big snow, he was undeterred.  He shoveled his way out of his house to the truck.  He started up the truck, attempting to plow his way to work.  After about 20 feet of travel in his driveway, he had covered the top of his truck with snow and was stuck and could not see.  He turned off the truck and walked back inside.  He had never practiced snow plowing before.

winter mix reached as far south as the i35 split, then was followed up with rain

based on the traffic flow it didn't glaze

Pretty interesting.   Obvious it's all about where the freezing line is setting up which is crossed through the metroplex.  We are north of it and still getting all snow.  Still warm enough that it's melting on roads right now but would assume further north you go overpasses are getting pretty damn slick.

Also nice that it's not so damn cold like the 2021 event with snow and kids can play outside longer.

Thursday morning update

The good news is that the threat of a significant ice storm is receding. It now appears as though this will be primarily a snow and sleet event in the vicinity of the metroplex in general, and Jerry World in specific. We are looking at 3 to 6 inches of snow, with some additional sleet thrown into the mix for the Dallas area. How much of this sticks will depend on temperatures, which will be in the 30 to 34 degree range overnight Thursday in Friday morning. (If things were going to be 5 degrees colder, this would be snow-mageddon). The potential for roadway issues is still pretty high on Friday morning, but I do expect things to start melting by late morning or early afternoon at the latest. The bottom line is that the later you can drive in, the better. The problem is if everyone else has this same idea.

In that same vein, a friend of mine grew up in Houston.  He had a 2WD Ford Explorer.  He went to college at Hamilton in Utica.  That winter, he earned the nickname "Two-wheel Timmy" for his inability to drive anywhere.

I practiced plowing plenty, but the first time I actually plowed, it was over really quickly and was quite disappointing for all involved.

Are you a family of Interlochen?

Millbrook, right next to Interlochen.

If you are familiar with the area, you know that the only way out is up either the Westwood or Bowen hills, neither of which gets sun until the afternoon.

Getting up one of those hills tomorrow will be the main challenge. Hopefully, it will have melted enough by mid afternoon

target: tailgate

the best thing you can do tomorrow is have a competent shotgun google map analyst, either in the vehicle with you, or remote on hands free device

someone not driving should be monitoring the freeze line, road status (black/red/yellow/green) and the surl for real-time reports in this thread

this cap shows 3 different routes from the i35 split to the tailgate location at 816 North Collins 76011

image.thumb.png.0cbac2352291809824aec26a32dbbe12.png

i have comments about each of these routes but will hold off until later this afternoon as we see how the day plays out

Man I know there’s Houston sprawl but I don’t think Ennis is one of the suburbs of Houston

kxas temperature forecast - exact location unknown - assuming this is DFW Airport - it *should* be at least 1 or 2 degrees warmer on all ingress roadways

The DFW highway system is a giant wang and balls.  Once you see it, you can't unsee it.  Looks like there's a rash on the top side, might wanna get some antibiotics

Did the Metroplex's balls go up into its body because it's so damn cold?
