We got 12.5 inches of snow over two days in February 2010.

In February 2011 we got about 5-6 inches the week of Jerry's Super Bowl.

I still remember that 2010 one. Had pictures from outside my 2nd floor apartment window that showed every inch of ground, trees, etc covered with snow.

Remember trying to drive right down the street, about 1/4 mile, to pick up a pizza and was going 5 to 10 mph because I couldn't see what was road and what wasn't.

If it gets like that Thursday things will still be crazy on Friday all day.

monday 6pm tl/dr

leaving austin or houston at 10am on friday is a crapshoot but likely gets you to the deathstar by 5pm - if you don't die on the road

If you're merely injured en route, no biggie. Medevac is the way to beat the traffic. Have them drop you off at the stadium.

I plan on leaving pretty early but I'm still thinking 281 might be the call this time, given arlington....you can almost guarantee some shitshow/accident on 35 with weather. It is an extra 40 minutes but usually no traffic issues.

If from SA or West Austin, 281 then over to Cleburne is the ticket. Then take the CTPkwy over to Arlington. Beats messing with coming in from 35 (Dallas).

11am Sat kickoff. No nfl to compete with.

Will feel just like the Big 12 Championship last year.

I don’t think they’re going to postpone the game Friday night just to have it Saturday morning.  Let the sun and 40 degree temps melt everything all afternoon and do this thing at the same time.

Fair.

But the money sponsors are not going to take kindly to a quarterfinal AND semifinal getting delayed to go head to head with the NFL

We’ll be a laughingstock if this  game is delayed over less than a foot of snow…

of course, this state pretty much already is

The state has become one for many reasons,  but this isn't one of them. Would be incredibly stupid to allocate tens of millions to DFW for equipment and staff to clear roads when this happens once every couple of years. At most one or two days a year on a heavy year. Way too infrequent to justify spending on it.

kxas is sticking with 2-5" of snow in the metroplex

the winter mix zone south of dfw and west of i35 is going to be the problem

to repeat for people who are not reading or ignoring what i've posted

281 is NOT a better option than 35

281 WILL NOT have better conditions

281 WILL NOT be faster, safer or easier

What are the other reasons?

there will be no sun all afternoon

the precip will end around noon

at sunrise friday, frozen precip will be on all roads heading to dfw from the west, southwest, south, southeast and east

the vast majority of Texas fans had planned on driving in on friday

"letting the 40 degree temps do their thing all afternoon" means fuckall to everyone trying to safely get to the deathstar from anywhere in the state

I’m talking about if they hypothetically postponed the game to Saturday. Saturday is sunny with a high of 47.

If the actual forecast is the extreme scenario by Weds it wouldn't shock me at all if they did that.   A foot of snow would be all timer in DFW (that was record in 2010 as mentioned above). But every model is not showing that (just the ones getting posted all over social media).  Probably a better idea by tomorrow afternoon and certainly by Wednesday just how bad it will be.

Woah there,  chief. No one was talking about the electric power grid infrastructure. This is completely separate from that. This is talking about investing 10s of millions in the vehicles, equipment, supplies, and manpower to clear DFW streets of ice and snow, and have to maintain all those vehicles, for the one to two days every few years it's necessary. It's a waste of resources.

Purchasing the winter infrastructure for roads in the metroplex at a cost of tens of millions is not a waste of resources when our grid governance results in the rape of texans to the tune of billions of dollars a year - polar vortexes and winterization are directly connected - winterization of the grid - winterization of the roads - winterization - one topic

text from up north is kxas is still sticking with 2-5" in dfw

Getting above freezing on major roads with enough traffic may be enough to make it to the game. Problem is the folks that drive on those roads like it is a dry sunny summer day.

Of course other risk is what the fuck happens if it all freezes back up during the way.  Because of course it's being played one of the only major venues in the country with absolutely zero public transportation options.  Fuck you Jerry.

unless you are planning on turning around and driving multiple hours away from arlington, the refreeze overnight after the game won't matter

go to wherever you are staying in dfw

get up saturday

everything is thawed out by noon

drive home

you can guess the number of fucks given by the rest of the country over anything winter related in texas

the 21 vortex grid crash has lost us all street cred on any winter topic for the next 100 years

this absolutely is "one of them"

"one of them" is "any of them" when it comes to winter infrastructure

it would also be incredibly stupid to deregulate your power grid and make it a state entity dedicated to raping citizens to the tune of billions of dollars every year

but that's what we did

Y’all take this shit somewhere else.

I mean Jerry World is a 30+ minute drive from Dallas proper.  If ends up being a situation where it dips back to freezing by 7PM, that's going to be a fucked up drive back to Dallas (through neighborhoods etc.).  They can't treat every damn road in the metroplex sufficiently.  It's a cluster F at night and early in the morning every time this happens.

All of this. I predict the freeways will be fine outside of the actual precip event itself.
but it’s folks thinking they can cruise at 85-90 when one sharp swerve to evade grandpa merging on to 35 near West  going 45 that worries me.

Nerds on a weather forum all bitching about how some new models showing it could be a "bust" so hopefully we wake up to good news and it starts trending to boring snow day Thurs.
