Not as easily definable as music given festival and limited release schedules, but what’s everyone got so far?

1. Nickel Boys - RaMell Ross (the only 5 star movie I saw this year)

2. Red Rooms - Pascal Piante

3. The Brutalist - Brady Corbet

4. Challengers - Luca Guadagnino

5. The Beast - Bertrand Bonello

6. Anora - Sean Baker

7. Evil Does Not Exist - Ryusuke Hamaguchi

8. I Saw The TV Glow - Jane Schoenbrun

9. Longlegs - Osgood Perkins

10. First Omen - Arkasha Stevenson

First Cuts: Chime (would be top 5, but less than an hour), La Chimera, madS,

Haven’t seen: Sing Sing, Babygirl, A Complete Unknown

In no order. Haven’t gotten to most of the award movies yet and I’m confident that several of them will make this list. Overall I thought the movie year was very bro-y.

Romulus

Red Rooms

Dune

Conclave

Nosferatu

Longlegs

Oddity

Civil War

Heretic

Substance

Rebel Ridge

Complete unknown, brutalist, anora, nickel boys, the beast, baby girl, and sing sing are the ones I need to see still.

Longlegs, late night with devil just miss out.
I thought I saw the tv glow, cuckoo, trap and blink twice all sucked

I also was meh on cuckoo and thought trap and blink twice sucked. Loved TV Glow. Of your list, I liked em all except Heretic, which I found pretty boring even though I saw it in a packed theater around opening night.

Romulus ripped

Man, I haven't hardly seen any 2024 released movies yet. Saw Dune 2 at the theater. Waiting for Saturday Night to hit NetFlix this weekend. Same for the Jesse Eisenberg/Kieran Culkin flick. Watched The Fall Guy -- was that 2024 or 2023? Have Beetlejuice 2 on DVR -- will watch soon. Want to see the Dylan movie at some point.

Romulus is probably my #1 for the year. Just a movie that knows exactly what it is and executes.

What am I missing on TV glow? I thought is was so fucking boring

Trying to word this as non-flippantly as I can, but I have only heard of like 3 movies in this thread. And I have no idea where/how you guys found all of these to watch.

In the past, when the Oscar nominee list came out, I had at least heard of almost all of the movies, even the most artsy, limited release ones.

Movies are in a weird place. How do you even advertise for a non-Blockbuster that doesn't star Tom Cruise or hot people in spandex?
