Oh, and just chatting with a friend who is an international relations expert, and something of a gov't insider.  He puts the chances of war with Canada and an invasion of Greenland at the level of "near-certainty."

He's not wrong.

Buckle up.  We're about to go invadin' ERRBODY.

OK so we invade. We destroy their military. We open the borders. Then what? What is accomplished? A long slow burning insurgency. Thats it.

That was my counterpoint.  We get an insurgency.  We get counter-strikes in the US.  And, we may well get at least partial mutiny within US military units, as well as possible outright secession of US states that are not willing to go along with such bullshit.  Not inconceivable to see the West Coast go.  Hawaii could be interesting as well.

Don't forget the cross border marriages. Checked. There are over 800,000 of them.

Shit, what do you do with all the Canadians living here in the US, and vice versa?

And for that matter, Canada is in the commonwealth.  What does the UK do if the US attacks Canada?  By the way, that's my one real hope of averting such a stupid move: UK military officials having conversations with their American counterparts about how disastrous it would be for the UK and the US to got to war....and we WOULD have to go to war.  Remember, the UK will follow its duties/obligations over a cliff when it comes to entering a war.

And yes, I've already had conversations with my American children living abroad in the UK about contingency plans if the war happens.

Again, this is so beyond stupid, it can't be measured by any instrument humanity has devised.

A shitload of our military has fought alongside Canadians for all our excursions and are likely deployed with them now. If our military caves so easily to a psychopath, well yeah. Insane,  but very likely.

We agree that the deciding factor is the military - loyalty to the constitution and telegraphed warnings to admin insiders of “don’t order us to do this, you won’t like how it goes,” including communications they are already having with their counterparts in Canada and the UK.
You don’t spout the kind of belligerent rhetoric Trump is spouting WITHOUT intending to invade.

The 1st Special Service Force (FSSF) was an elite joint American–Canadian commando unit in World War II, formed by Lieutenant Colonel Robert T. Frederick of the Operations Division of the U.S. General Staff.

The modern American and Canadian special operations forces trace their heritage to this unit.

Trump is a bully who likes to talk tough. He’s also a giant pussy, like all bullies, and he’s not going to invade Greenland let alone Canada. He’s more likely to build a border wall and make Mexico pay for it. It’s just bullshit he spews that shouldn’t be taken seriously. It’s all a distraction to draw attention away from his assault on our own country.

Lol.  Pick more intelligent friends.

There’s a reason your kids moved away from Texas. And it isn’t because of the president.  Look in the mirror and try to get a hold of yourself and step back from the ledge

Until he talks so much shit that he talks himself into a corner where he has no choice but to act.
Sure, ignore the threat like you’ve ignored all the others that have actually come to pass. That seems wise.

so trump pretty much assisted russian with their recent Kursk offensive ?

interesting foreign policy decision, allegedly

Same as the months long holdup of military support, spurred on by Trump, cost the Ukrainians Avdiivka and a host of cities and territory in the Donetsk region. It's almost like these dipshits are working for Russia.

Another act of arson against America’s global power and influence— yesterday an EO took the axe to U.S. Agency for Global Media (which operates Voice of America and funds Radio Free Europe/Liberty and Radio Free Asia).  I understand furloughs start for RFA on Monday, and this comes after Kari Lake eliminated the agencies’ access to AP, AFP, Reuters, etc. In every meeting with tyrants and dictators across Eurasia and East Asia, they demand the closure of RFE/RL and RA.  Chinese state media will take its place.

DJT is also shuttering the Wilson Center,  which operates with only 1/3 of its function from the feds.  It is notable an “undesirable organization” per the Kremlin.

There is no way the rest of NATO would stay neutral in that situation. Even if they didn’t respond entirely, it would throw us into the worst depression imaginable.

Like everything else since January 20th, "Ok sure that sounds positively horrific, but on the plus side.... wait what's the plus side again?".

And a bad ass organization, very non-partisan, and gives voices to many. Recently attended an event on US and Mexico focus on cartels.

Yeah, that would have pissed off Trump.

We make Canadian Football great again… or does it become part of the NFL then?

I think I l’ve got a pretty good record of knowing what to take seriously and what is bullshit. I knew he wasn’t building a wall and Mexico wasn’t going to pay for the few miles of new wall he did manage to erect. Jan 6 didn’t surprise me at all. He’s not invading Canada. The people he’s looking to unleash the military on are us, the American citizens.
