I don't think they let the bone go till something happens tbh. This isn't manufactured outrage it's actual reality based outrage at an absolutely outrageous and beyond stupid action by multiple senior members of the cabinet. There is merit in making this not go away beyond pretty much any political scandal in the last decade.

I mean, I'm pretty sure this is the largest intelligence failure in this country's history.  People should definitely be fired for the original fuck-up, and everyone who committed perjury in front of Congress should be imprisoned.  There might even be an argument to be made for firing squads.  It's impossible to overstate what a big deal this is.

Okay, so we have Trump's malevolent sidekick, Ren Höek, telling the group that he *thinks* this is what POTUS wants while there's some disagreement among the principals on the call.

Did POTUS even know about this attack? Did he authorize it? Who exactly was in charge?

Nobody is in charge.  A band of malevolent LITERAL internet trolls simply periodically has one or more of said trolls act as if he was the president, and nobody questions it.  That's it.  That is our actual executive branch, as it actually functions.

Yeah, that's what I'm getting at with these questions, and I'm just some schmo living out in the wastelands.

I don't watch cable news, so this next question is less rhetorical: Why isn't the question "Who the fuck is in charge?" being hammered?

What? I said the E2EE worked fine I never said anything about this being okay or even remotely proper. I was simply arguing that these guys (who now have proven my point) are just massively stupid and preferred convenience over some malicious plan to subvert recordskeeping.

No one has disputed the encryption working, because it does in fact work.

Are you not familiar with Project 2025?

Bruh. The sitting President of the United States told lie after baseless lie for months about dead voters and conspiracies, wasted the courts' times with meritless bullshit, slandering anyone and everyone against him, ultimately culminating in winding up his fanatical base enough to attempt an insurrection of our government. Oh, and he had documents of the highest classification stuffed in boxes in his shitter.

He's now our current President, and those traitors have been pardoned.

By comparison, this is a quaint, funny little side story about hilarious incompetence for the late night shows.

Not to go all brisket, but nothing matters anymore. Nothing.

Trump is the cult leader. These people are just morons. This isn't about trumpism it's about accountability outside of trumpism that even trumpism must respect.

If Trump wants to die on this hill (spoiler: he doesn't) then let him, but we all know he's gonna fold like a wet noodle and fire these fucking idiots.

Shit, then....I must be the cock-of-th-walk then.

But he also forgets one thing about doomerism: it is accurate.  Like a 95% hit rate on being right.  That's important.  We need to stop being surprised by each new horror that happens - they are all predictable, and indeed are usually already predicted.

Sure, but the important distinction I think he's getting at is that doomerism isn't cause for inaction or disengagement from current events. For all your doomerism and ledge-scaping, you're at least still here giving a fuck and paying attention. The same can't be said for a large swath of our citizenry.

That’s a completely different point but I agree with its accuracy. But if the people tasked to police it don’t care and the people of this country don’t know enough to care, then who is going to do something about it.

There is a longer discussion that needs to be addressed. We worried about Pete’s sexual issues instead of the fact that he was a Fox and Friends Weekend co-anchor. Not even the weekday one. There should have been non-stop outrage before his hearing. But we were hoping that sexual misconduct would be his downfall after we just elected a guy that had rape allegations. If you keep plugging away at the F&F issue, this makes it easier to blow this story up.  But there was a lot of nothing about his competency to do the job. And I am not taking about liberal Twitter. We needed leadership to step up.

Again, we are fighting the wrong fights and hoping it works out because people are finally going to see how bad things are that they are doing.

Why would he? He doesn’t care that they’re incompetent, only that they’re blindly loyal to him. If he “saves” them now, they’re even more beholden to the Orange god.

During his first administration, he had competent, veteran people around him. Assholes, yes? But people who wouldn’t indulge his worst impulses. That shit is gone this go-round.

Interesting thing I noticed while at a port city last week. A large strange looking boat was pulling out of port. There were government workers of all types watching it leave. It was clear that it was highly unusual for it to have been in this port and its leaving was also an unusual event.

When I did some research on it, I realized it is a Navy ship that lays underwater fuel cables in advance of combat operations. It is a very shady ship. So shit is about to happen in a significant way. This went out into the Pacific, not the Atlantic. It was really weird.

I'm going to start monitoring Snapchat to see what Pete Hegseth may have sent me.

They may consider bringing back the firing squad to punish that traitorous, loose-lipped reporter.

That's closer to happening right now than anyone in the GOP attempting to treat this as the colossal fuck up that it is.

Trump isn't dying on any hill unless it's at his golf course...which he's currently playing at...completely and utterly carefree...because he knows that none of this--or anything else--will ever stick to him.

Exactly. That's the best part of this, none of it is trump. If trump was involved he'd make it go away, since he's not he's gonna cut these fuckers loose and let them drown.

I was told that no one cared and that people would move on.

In any normal administration this would be a huge scandal and everyone involved would resign in shame. Now its just the biggest embarrassment so far.

They are republicans.  They are evil, stupid, and want to kill America.  Thru their own incompetence or through deliberately targeted actions that disrupt the basic flow of American life/economy/international relations.  That is what they wanted before Trump came along, and its what they want now, only they now get to have a Jim Jones Daddy to give them cover and executive level justification for their heinous shit.

They should all be tethered to a gigantic anchor and dropped in the Marianas Trench, but lets go ahead and give them the keys to everything.  Doing so would improve our national security and make Americans safer.

This country is too stupid and malevolent to be considered "First World" any longer.  We are our own special brand of shithole.  A shithole with the biggest defense budget in the world and the capacity to break up the remnants of few moral underpinnings we have left.

So now we sit and wait and gnash our teeth, knowing this was the path America chose.

Now excuse me while I go fishing and imagine a world where Elon Musk was thrown down a mineshaft.

Accountability exists only for the fall guys that Trump co. keeps handy at all times. Pete Hegseth was appointed, in no small part, because he's a perfect, inconsequential fall guy if things go sideways. Then, business as usual.

What some people don't get is that corruption and incompetence *is* Trumpism. That's why a lot of evil morons joined the Trump train; it's their vehicle for getting us to fucking Auschwitz.

Edit: I'm keeping the above but would like to modify/clarify.

What some people don't get is that corruption and incompetence *is* Trumpism. That's why a lot of evil oligarchs joined the Trump train; it's their vehicle for getting us to Yarvin's cybermonarchy.

I'm at the point where I'd be highly surprised if anyone in the chat group is forced to resign with the odds-on favorite to resign being the Atlantic writer after their offices are threatened physically and they're threatened legally with the ABC treatment.

Not-SIAP but Tulsi proved what POS she was yesterday in the congressional hearing. She refused to answer whether the Signal user TG was her or not. Said that the NSC was reviewing the situation.

Refusing the answer is what you do when cops pull you over and asked where you just were. Not when you're asked if you participated in a conversation and the guy next to you is confirming he is on the conversation.

It makes me wonder what else Tulsi has been using Signal for, and is that the reason that she doesn't want to go down that line of questioning. You answer Yes, user TG is me, then a logical next question is do you use Signal for other conversations? Refuse to answer the first question and it prevents the next questions from being asked.
