Trump isn't dying on any hill unless it's at his golf course...which he's currently playing at...completely and utterly carefree...because he knows that none of this--or anything else--will ever stick to him.

well yeah, because he was completely unaware of anything is underlings were doing.

His days are spent  either on a golf course, shit posting, or signing unconstitutional EOs.

Which, quite honestly is best case.

So in this situation, what's the mechanism for classifying material?  Obviously everything Pete texted SHOULD be classified, but was it actually?

I ask because It actually feels like the administration is arguing semantics when they say it wasn't classified- as in, it should have been but technically wasn't.  It would certainly be on brand if they're using the incompetence of failure to classify the material as their excuse for why it wasn't illegal to share it.

This address my question:

Quote

But don’t let anyone lie to you: Information about the timing of forthcoming U.S. military operations is prima facie classified Top Secret. Information regarding high-value targets, weapons systems, military unit movements, even whether we think that we have Operational Security — OPSEC — in advance of a military operation is prima facie classified.

Our secretary of defense texted out the no-kidding Time on Target! That would, to say the least, be useful information for anyone manning enemy air defense batteries.

These are extremely sensitive topics that should never be discussed outside of the appropriate venue and only with those with need-to-know.

Do not get misled by the idea that by somehow not attaching a PDF stamped “Classified Top Secret,” Hegseth didn’t do anything wrong here. Hegseth’s texts were born classified the moment he wrote them. This information by its very existence and by its definition was classified the moment Hegseth started tapping on his iPhone.

Take it with a grain of salt though, as it was written by the liberal rag (checks notes...) The National Review.

I'm listening to the hearings on Sirius XM. Not sure who this republican is, but in response to being asked if our Sec Def was drunk before posting any of those texts, replied "Why aren't we talking about any of the good the CIA has been doing??".

Its the government and there is ALWAYS an SOP.

Vance noted that we had informed allied and partners when the text was sent.  Probably true, and the information would have surely been labeled as classified and releasable only to specific countries. And presumably The Atlantic.

They are republicans.  They are evil, stupid, and want to kill America.  Thru their own incompetence or through deliberately targeted actions that disrupt the basic flow of American life/economy/international relations.  That is what they wanted before Trump came along, and its what they want now, only they now get to have a Jim Jones Daddy to give them cover and executive level justification for their heinous shit.

They should all be tethered to a gigantic anchor and dropped in the Marianas Trench, Melania's Trench but lets go ahead and give them the keys to everything.  Doing so would improve our national security and make Americans safer.

This country is too stupid and malevolent to be considered "First World" any longer.  We are our own special brand of shithole.  A shithole with the biggest defense budget in the world and the capacity to break up the remnants of few moral underpinnings we have left.

So now we sit and wait and gnash our teeth, knowing this was the path America chose.

Now excuse me while I go fishing and imagine a world where Elon Musk was thrown down a mineshaft.

Pos rep but edited preemptively for future accuracy

The Veep replying “excellent” after reading about a war crime is pretty high on the rage list.

uh not as bad as them celebrating via emojis the deaths of innocent civilians (including children) killed by a US bomb obliterating an apartment building.

They may consider bringing back the firing squad to punish that traitorous, loose-lipped reporter.

That's closer to happening right now than anyone in the GOP attempting to treat this as the colossal fuck up that it is.

Oh, absolutely.

I just think it's important to fully understand the scope of this, and of its cover-up, before nothing happens to anyone involved.

I think this will be one of the big turning points in the history books someday.  And I mean the foreign history books where what actually happened to America is covered.

The NYTimes has put together the infamous Signal chat thread and has added multiple annotations throughout, translating their meanings and adding context. It's really useful and easy to follow.

Here's a gift link to get past the paywall:

I'm gonna guess Hegseth is always the alpha dickbag in any room he chooses to set foot in. You gotta get up pretty, pretty early in the morning to have any chance of out-dickbagging this guy. #BorntoDickbag

Well said. Any ally that was still holding out hope that the United States can weather this level of gross incompetence and wanton malice for another three years and come out reasonably okay is jumping ship today.

BTW, this latest episode absolutely belongs in the DT but because certain posters wouldn't like seeing officials being roasted for their incompetence because it's "political", it has to stay here.

He's a dickbag for sure.  But he's no Alpha.  Read the signal chat again, and consider how hard he is trying with this group.  He knows he's over his head.  He knows they know he's over his head. I'd call it text book impostor syndrome, but that's based on the impression that you're not worthy.

Nobody is in charge.  A band of malevolent LITERAL internet trolls simply periodically has one or more of said trolls act as if he was the president, and nobody questions it.  That's it.  That is our actual executive branch, as it actually functions.

GOP: We don't have a President!

GOP: I told you, we're living in a Oligarcho-Incel Commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of Chief Internet Troll for the week,...

So, we bombed an entire apartment building that collapsed because a bad guy was visiting his girlfriend there?

How many innocents dead?

Alpha -

informal
denoting a person who has a dominant role or position within a particular sphere.

I maintain that in the sphere of dickbaggery, he meets the definition. I didnt tee him up for alpha leader, or alpha good guy.

This is what is funny to me.   How do these guys still not understand that shit really only works for Trump.  Don't get me wrong, I don't understand how it consistently works for Trump but it does.  He's the only one in the MAGA world that gets the blind loyalty.  My initial reaction to Hegseth's initial interview was that it was just a really bad Trump impersonation (lie, deflect, blame the Libs).   Waltz the same thing.  I mean on one hand they don't really have any other cards to play in this instance, but it doesn't come as natural to anyone else like it does Trump and just doesn't work.

So let me get this straight.

Hillary storing confidential info on a private server is the biggest national security breach of all time.

But texting literal battle plans to a common citizen is just like the accidental reply-to-all at your job, only you added someone not even in the military or government, but it's cool because it was an accident.

And Joe Biden autosigned stuff, so it's invalid.

But Trump doesn't even have to know what's going on when military force is authorized.

Is that about right?  Am I up-to-date on current events in The United States of How the Fuck Is This Not Satire?

Dems circling the wagons around Hillary and making sure she had no consequences for her private server is the reason we're here today with the Trump admin using fucking Signal for national security info.
