He also announced that members need to spend 5% on defense, a figure we don’t meet ourselves and that is impossible and a moved goalpost.  He’s attacking the Alliance preemptively.

I think an under-appreciated aspect of DJT is that he has never had a friend. I don’t like to personalize international politics but this shapes his worldview just like being a second rate spy does for Putin.  DJT cannot comprehend relationships beyond suckers to bilk, partners in bilking, or assholes trying to stop him from bilking.  Trust, loyalty, patience, genuine support— all these things are foreign to him, he’s never been experienced them or demonstrated them and he views them as suspicious.  He cannot believe in any relationship where both parties are happy and getting something different but valuable, or giving as much as they can even if it isn’t equal. .  That carries over.

Don't forget bitches, preferably foreign ones, who let you grab em by the pussy.

This guy is such a completely aberrant personality.  Makes Nixon look well-adjusted.

The reason Carter turned the Panama canal over to Panama was because it was costing the US, not only a ton of money, but also a lot of lives to maintain control and operate it. It wasn't worth the hassle anymore.

That was a US that's far more financially solvent than today. So of course, let's spend another trillion and more dead American soldiers occupying Panama.

Not to mention, this immediately sets the world stage for every power to fight over any lands close to them they wish to invade. Taiwan being the most obvious.

Just incredibly stupid and potentially nuclear holocaust level dangerous.

The reason Carter turned the Panama Canal over to Panama is because his administration came in with the mindset that the US policy was way too pragmatic and not focused enough on humanitarian issues. We were supporting too many bad guys (e.g. the Shah) and needed to be more of a good guy ourselves. Handing the Panama Canal to the Panamanians felt like the right thing to do.

It was penance for prior meddling in Central America that has proven to be disastrous.  Although the point has been made that it would probably have been a disaster, anyway.  Possibly less bloody.

Yeah, cuz it took the US military to train Central Americans to be mean and violent.

Hahahaha. Ever heard of 1931 in El Salvador? Way before the US was in the country. Or the Aztec movement into Central America?

I know a lot about the School.

Revisionism. Gotta love it. Yeah, no reason to talk about today.

We're dicks! We're reckless, arrogant, stupid dicks. And the DT posters are pussies. And Bob is an asshole. But he’s our asshole.  Pussies don't like dicks, because pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also fuck assholes - assholes who just want to shit on everything. Pussies may think they can deal with assholes their way, but the only thing that can fuck an asshole is a dick, with some balls. The problem with dicks is that sometimes they fuck too much, or fuck when it isn't appropriate - and it takes a pussy to show 'em that. But sometimes pussies get so full of shit that they become assholes themselves, because pussies are only an inch-and-a-half away from assholes.

I don't know much in this crazy, crazy world, but I do know that if you don't let us inject politics into this thread, and allow us to criticize this asshole, we are going to have our dicks and our pussies all covered in shit.

1931 is waaay after a bunch of different filibuster adventures, and after all of the various United Fruit Company excesses.  Hell, UFC led a coup against Honduras president in 1911 for daring to pass laws that were negative to their company business.

I do not view the mention of the totality of history in that area of the world as “revisionism” - at least when it comes to US involvement in their affairs.

And you said the school Sir. I pointed out a real event. So when did this school touch you and did you report it?

Yeah, Central America really needed to be trained to be violent is my point. Tells me you don't know the hemisphere's history very well. Yep, was just a bunch of people sitting around, no warfare, nothing. Then came the UFC and an evil school.

Those laws would have taken 100% of their investment. Do you know why Northern Honduras is so much better developed than the center? UFC. But yeah, lets just never see anything except for what we were taught in LAS 301. Gonna bring up Arbenz and Pinochet in 1,2,3..

Oh, and UFC was not in El Salvador. A reason I picked it.

Since you picked today to battle various strawman I never asserted, who am I to stop you?   This is rather odd, as you normally don’t post stuff anywhere near this level.  And can I mark you down as approving foreign businesses taking over governments if they pass laws impacting 100% of their profits, since you rise to the defense of poor old UFC? You seem rather unperturbed as that entire concept.

The strawman is pointing at the school of the americas as the evil of the hemisphere. Tells me you know little about it. And you did bring up the School.

Engagement is a good thing. Very good. Blaming one thing and seeing a people only through a certain lense is not. That is where are foreign policy ends up. be it business or social issues. Do you think the people opening up chip plants there vs. china won't bring in major problems? What would be good engagement in Latin America? Convince it to just be purty and a biosphere for you to enjoy?

I can layout a possible future for the hemisphere. I see quite a positive one with US investment vs. Chinese. Can you?

I support Greenland becoming a protectorate of Greater America. There are many English-speaking Greenlanders of American descent who are subjects of daily abuse at the hands of the European majority. Plus historically, Greenland has been an American homeland, as it was settled by people who would found America. Also, recently, Greenlander security forces crossed the border and attacked one of our radio stations, killing all the operators and soldiers there. Soon, we will be answering their incessant provocations with weapons.

Herr Trump has it very clear: "We have regretted greatly this incomprehensible attitude of the Greenland Government, but that alone is not the decisive fact. The worst is that now Greenland, like Panama a year ago believes, under the pressure of a lying international campaign, that it must call up its troops, although America on her part has not called up a single man, and had not thought of proceeding in any way against Greenland."

I wrote the first paragraph. It’s a loose summary of the various justifications Germany used prior to invading Poland. The second is an actual quote from mustache man prior to the Poland campaign, with Panama and Greenland replacing Poland and Czechoslovakia.

Meh, America has generally always been seeking hegemonic power in the Americas and the possibility of changing that to more direct expansion is just a throwback to earlier periods where we were more active in our desires to own the hemisphere. The funny part though is that even when we were colonizing and expanding, we pretended to be different from the other colonial powers. Now we're just straight up saying "we're taking this" with no apologies or explanations about how we'll run out the caudillos or enlighten people that need a good enlightening.

The main lesson to never ever trust Yanqui has been taught and forgotten by nearly every generation in Latin America and its time for Canada and Greenland to learn it. There is always another United Fruit, always another Trump, always another traitor willing to kill their own people for that sweet sweet protection and US $$$. That's the nature of living next to a xenophobic superpower that switches directions every four years but always looks after itself first that really doesn't give a shit about you or any agreements we've had in the past.

Yes, the way we did it in the past was much more underhanded - smarter, I'd argue.  It's ok for us to have bases right outside of Russia and China etc but if anyone of those had tried (and they did) anything around these parts we were willing to go to nuclear war.  Again, I'm not ok'ing this bullshit banana republic admin in any way, shape, or form but let's not act like we're fucking Tibet over here...

But another take is that Greenland has a lot of room for egg farms and he heard about trans-iting the Panama canal so he's just keeping those campaign promises in a novel way.

Serious question:  Why didn't he bring this up before the election?  It raises the sinister level of the actions.

As a narcissist, he wants to be remembered as a president who did something fantastic, spectacular, that will forever be remembered.   Since he is incapable of being a good president as his universally accepted by historians, something like buying Greenland is the only thing he can think of to get himself on Mount Rushmore.

This is all lightly edited Hitler verbiage that was originally directed at Poland.

Well he could have used the more modern Putin spiel on why he had to invade Ukraine.  Same Same but I appreciate going back to the original.

Like when song samples an old song, don't refer to a previous sample.  i.e Latto's "Big Energy" did not sample Maria Carey's "Fantasy" or even Grandmaster Flash "It's Nasty", it was Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love"

I think there's two things behind it: first, he knows Putin wants him to destabilize NATO and this is one way to do it. Second, he thinks Greenland is a lot bigger than it actually is, because he doesn't understand that Mercator maps distort its size, and so he thinks that if Greenland ended up part of America it would look really impressive on maps to people and he'd get credited for it.

It is interesting to note all the similarities between Trump and Hitler:

  • Both fed on the Big Lie: Trump - election stolen. Hitler - Germany stabbed in the back in WW1.
  • Both led a failed insurrection: Trump 2021. Hitler 1923.
  • Both convicted of crime though Trump did not serve jail time
  • Both created a powerful cult movement with heavy use of iconic imagery
  • Both cite returning the country to traditional values from a decadent popular culture
  • Both had team of faithful subordinates who carried out their various illegal acts
  • Both achieved power legally
  • Both authoritarians
  • Both had militia-styled activist groups
  • Both riding trend of resurgence of facist-styled leaders worldwide
  • Both had bogeyman fall-guys: Trump has illegal immigrants and Hitler had the Jews

Will Trump remove constitutional barriers, arrest his opponents and declare himself president for life like Hitler did? Make no mistake: he certainly will try!

I think he is 100% looking to expand American territory for his legacy.  Greenland is big and he probably thinks easy.

If Trump has his way, he'll create a family dynasty (I don't think people are taking this seriously enough), take us isolationist, and double our territory.

I think his brain is very simple.  These are tangible things that make him look like a badass in his own mind.  These are the things he respects in the Kims and Putins of the world.

I think that is more likely than Trump bothering to think what is in the country’s national strategic interest.

Stop. Taking. This. Shit. Seriously.

It’s only given to distract from the corruption and disastrous economic and immigration policies he’s confirmed will go into effect on day 1. No one is asking for accountability or details on Saudi’s promises to pay Trump to host a golf tournament; no one is asking where unspent inaugural funds will go; no one is asking why Melania’s life story is worth $40 million - we’re all reading articles saying “Durr what if Canada is a state? Will Wayne Gretzky be a governor?”

Just stop it.
