Some of the wind is slowing a little here in Venice Culver City area. Hopefully that eases a little spread. But the ash in the air is brutal on the sinus

Moonshadows is gone, burnt down to the foundation. The Reel Inn is gone. Duke’s seems to be ok. Haven’t heard anything about Nobu.

Holy shit I forgot about Nobu. I feel like that was a little north of the fire.  I talked to some homies in the know. They are saying Nobu survived.   Pain in the ass to get a reservation there

Not up on all the minor LA burbs. Had to look Sylmar up.  Triangulated around the Hollywood sign.

And a quick check of the wind:

That's really not good. Not good at all.

Wasn’t a Sylmar warehouse the site of a major coke bust featured in Narcos Mexico?

These fires are incredibly sad.

Dude. Just stfu. As usual, you don't know wtf you're talking about.

This isn't a huge scandal, and it's not uncommon. It happens fairly often in much less extreme conditions than the ones they're facing. It happens in other places. It's happened at multiple fires I've worked in Austin over the years. Dry hydrants happen. Grow up, dumbass.

Fuck you.  Good Christ you people are such bitchasses.

Do firefighters have a shot at getting this under control without significant help from a shift in weather?

The winds have slowed. The problem is no rain in site and it hasn’t rain since last March

I loved the Reel Inn. Went there a handful of times on trips out there.

Wife just told me about looters... Shoot them on sight.

National guard got deployed in our neighborhood pretty quickly after the fires here in SD some 15 years ago. I imagine the same will happen here as soon as the immediate danger has passed. Of course they don’t stay around forever but I wouldn’t recommend shooting anyone while they are around. They may not know you’re the good guy.

Per CNN, Oregon is sending down 70 forestry firefighters.

Hope the wind dies down enough for an air attack.

Wind not nearly as bad today and been hearing more helicopters flying around.

I have fantastic memories of Moonshadows.  we rented the house closest to Moonshadows on the other side of their parking lot the entire week of the 06 Rose Bowl.  We celebrated NYE at Moonshadows (it was only something like 100 per person, which was cheap as fuck).  partied there, did brunch there along with other places around town.  and then we watched the greatest college football game ever played... many fond memories of that place... hate to see how bad Malibu got hit

Is the Rose Bowl in danger? The Eaton fire looks kind of close.

I don’t think so.  It’s a bit west.

New fire just broke out in the Hollywood Hills.  Blowing up quickly

I guess Pepperdine is okay? I have a friend whose sister lives in Malibu whose house overlooks the Pacific. I assume all those houses are gone based on those pics of all the lost beachfront properties.

Jesus. A mile from Hollywood Blvd and no matter which way the wind blows that can make this thing jump since you've got lots of trees north, east, and west of it.

Any chance these are arson? How often do these happen close to the city like this?

I mean sure it's possible but Malibu just went through this around Pepperdine last month. It happens. It's dry. The winds are blowing hard. You have something hit a power line and sparks happen. Then you get what we're seeing.
