Firefighters from Mexico will help fight Eaton blaze, Newsom says

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said firefighters from Mexico were en route Friday to help fight at least one of the fires devastating the Los Angeles area.

He said those coming to help from Mexico will be joining more than 10,000 personnel already on the ground.

They’d be heading to help battle the Eaton Fire, where more than 2,800 personnel were.

"California is deeply grateful for President @ClaudiaShein’s support as we work to suppress the Los Angeles wildfires," he wrote on Friday in a post on the social platform X.

There's already ongoing litigation in CA over seawalls. They're regulated by the CA Coastal Commission. As far as rebuilding houses in Malibu goes, that'll be handed by the City of Malibu which has responsibility for reviewing plans and issuing permits.

All of Malibu is subject to the Coastal Commission

ngl, I kinda hope the Guard shoots some people looting. I dunno, send a message. But not like a racial thing that people can get all fascist about. Maybe a nice mixed group of looters. Maybe one looter is Asian, one grandms, and another trans. I mean, I don't want trans people dead, but for looter diversity. Like Crash or a commercial for eczema, but looters getting shot.

DEI! woke looting!

I would imagine that California will be active enforcing laws and policies.

Here in Texas, I lost a beachfront lot and house to Ike. A shoe box sized hunk of concrete was the only evidence remaining. When the LIDAR map was set, we lost half the lot to the beach and so the state bought us out, and we took the insurance money and did not rebuild.

Our neighbor, a not inconsequential trial attorney, sold his lot to a guy who overbuilt about 30’ on our former property, now owned by the state. When he pointed it out to the guy his reply was “fuck off, I'm friends with half the Texas general land office, so unless you're planning on filing a lawsuit shut up.”

If you're in Crystal Beach and see a giant white house with a red roof in Singing Sands, that's the guy.

So I'm interested to see how many people in CA decide to do what they want to do and chance litigation.

This guy?

My wife finally heard back from her last boss that moved to the area. They had been in NYC for all their lives, but picked up and moved for a last ditch effort to have a child. They had been to all the major IVF places and failed. They moved there and finally got pregnant. Due in two weeks. They lost everything yesterday. He sent a video and it looks like a bomb was dropped on his house and then someone lit it on fire. He was on a flight and she was at work when it happened. Dogs and cat are scorched.  All those baby clothes and accoutrements are lost. Devastating thing for people that have suffered for over a decade to have a child.

Don't mean shit to me. Don't build in places where mother nature might say is hers. Now it is interesting for stupid rage you had to come back and quote me twice on this. Did you go look something up for internet rep?

Dude, I know it is the offseason, but relax.

And this board makes fun all the time of people in Florida for building on a coast that gets hit with hurricanes.

I don't think I disagreed with you and I don't think I did anyting but respond to your comment to me. I didn't intend to do otherwise.

edit - Oh I think you mistook my comment about the City of Malibu as some negative comment about your post. Nah. I was just distinguishing homes in Malibu as opposed to in LA.

Not really. I think overpopulation is an issue worldwide but is a bigger issue in environmentally questionable areas. However, if a home is already there, I think it is fair to be able to do what is necessary to save it. The state of California already doesn’t allow building on lots that don’t already have water rights - that’s why lots are so cheap on the central coast. I’m good with that. But once a house is already there, that’s a problem. And if they apply that logic to individuals, I think the same logic should be applied to areas of fire damage. It won’t because the state doesn’t care about single individuals but it does care about a block of votes.

I don't know jack about Galveston jetties but I do know that seawalls don't prevent erosion, they magnify the force of the ocean and create further erosion, and will eventually cause the elimination of the beach itself. You can see that from this picture. It's Malibu but not Topanga Beach. Seawalls -- and yes that's what they call those sandbags -- won't stop mother nature. Unlike in TX, access to the beaches are a public right in CA.

Well, let's see. First the Earth cooled, and then the dinosaurs came. But they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil

Different types of seawalls. Those stupid sandbags are suppose to preserve the beach - counterproductive. The jetties are preventing large waves from reaching the island. They work and have prevented the type of destruction that led to almost the complete loss of Galveston. The individual seawalls that protect houses on cliffs and take the brunt of the wave force also work and protect the homes. The California Coastal Commission argument is that they can be unsightly and can impact the environment.

Jetties are to interrupt the longshore current to prevent shoals from forming in dredged ship channels. And Galveston has rock groins spaced intermittently along the seawall to preserve their modest beach.

The city of Galveston, formally founded in 1839, had weathered numerous storms, all of which the city survived with ease. In the late 19th century, Galveston was a boomtown with the population increasing from 29,084 people in 1890 to 37,788 people in 1900.[16][17] The city was the fourth largest municipality in terms of population in the state of Texas in 1900, and had among the highest per capita income rates in the U.S.

At the time of the 1900 hurricane, the highest point in the city of Galveston was only 8.7 ft (2.7 m) above sea level.[23] The hurricane brought with it a storm surge of over 15 ft (4.6 m) that washed over the entire island.

Sorry, but fuck that dumb woman. Why would you go into the house and say "We have a problem. You have to see this"? It wasn't a double rainbow or some other stupid shit. You run in and say "There's a fire headed our way, we need to pack up and leave ASAP!". Life isn't a sitcom, talk like a human being.
