The part I find funny is that Mormonism isn't some ancient religion like the majors.  It's like 150 years old.  The old religions take a lot of things on faith because they happened thousands of years ago but it something happened 150 years ago, we should have something.  (I know docs have been made about this.)  We can produce all of the founding documents of the United States but no one can show us the magic plates.

What's even wilder is The Book of Mormon. If you read the Bible or the Tanakh it mostly matches ancient Mediterranean/Mesopotamian/Middle Eastern history. The Roman empire in the New Testament, Ptolemaic/Seleucid empires in the deuterocanonical scriptures, Assyrian, Persian, Babylonian and Egyptian empires in the Tanakh.

The Book of Mormon reads like 19th century science fiction with made up empires and people that never existed in history. Somehow the Iron age took place in the America's before the arrival of Columbus. There were horses and elephants too. Nothing in it makes any sense.

I enjoyed this and agree with whoever compared it to Revenant.

About 10 years ago Peter Berg and Kitsch sat behind me at a concert in Albuquerque while they were filming Lone Survivor. They must’ve come straight from the set because they were still in Army gear and smelled like absolute shit. Nice guys though. CSB.

the southern paiute, who were blamed for the meadows job by the brethren for 27 years, were a passive tribe whose economy revolved around the pine nut harvest

the utah paiute are down to less than 1000 today

They really should have diversified their economy. I mean you’ve got pinwheel steaks and???

Yeah, it definitely felt like The Revenant, but the opening got my hopes up with a bit of spaghetti western styling.

Didn’t the same guy write both scripts?

this is like when i kept thinking the score in The Pale Blue Eye reminded me of Silence of the Lambs and i had to dig around and find out lol (yep, same guy,  Howard Shore)

You can't use the Comanche as a baseline for all Native American tribes.

They were the Vikings of the Southern Plains. They kicked the shit out of the other tribes and kept the Europeans out their territory. Hell, they defeated the Apache and took their territory. The French couldn't expand west or the Spanish north because of the Comanche. Mexico and Texas would get raided regularly by them and pretty much every government's flag that flew over Texas failed to defeat the Comanche.

They had a very spartan society where they just hunted and waged war.

Even a predator from another world came in and landed on earth only to pick a fight with the wrong Comanche woman.

So the Native AmericanS weren’t Jewish?

(This was also a WTF moment for me when I first learned of the Mormon belief in this…. Serious wtf.)
