2005 Columbus roll call

Was there also, and yes by far the most hostile and assholish road fans I’ve experienced over many road games since.

Always remember the crosswalk leaving our hotel in the morning and all the cars stopped there began honking and throwing middle fingers at us as we walked past. Also remember one fan yelling Boomer Sooner at me, which particularly got under my skin since we were in the midst of the five-game losing streak in Dallas.

Sat in the UT fan section near the top of the end zone, so was fine during the game. Jenna Bush was sitting right in front of me. (csb)

After the game the fans were very bitter. Just remember some guy saying to me in a threatening way as we walked away from the stadium, “I wouldn’t wear that shirt if I were you.”

I don’t plan on going back this August.

2004 tOSU at Purdue.

Bought tickets when both teams were 3-0.  By the time we got there, tosu was 6-3, Purdue was 5-4, and Kyle Orton was injured.  Because we bought tickets at 3-0, my brother was only able to score endzone seats, among many traveling tOSU fans.  Went with brother, his wife, and my dad.

People in the endzone were "ok" as they were (1) graduates of tOSU and (2) 40+ years in age.  We exchanged reasonable banter and jabs - never felt at risk.  Hell, it was a Purdue home game, so why should I feel at risk.

Purdue went up 17-3 at half with backup QB Brandon Kirsch.  The defense kept a tOSU team with Troy Smith, Santonio Holmes, Ted Ginn, and Antonio Pittman in check.

tOSU ties the game with 3:50 left.  Enter Kyle Orton.  He goes 7-8 for 54 yards and a TD on a drive that lasts around 2 mins to put Purdue up 24-17.  Purdue intercepts Smith for a 3rd time with 2:00 left to seal the win.

The older fans became a little less friendly, but no real risk.  As we walked back to my brother's house in West Lafayette, at least 2 groups of tOSU fans attempted to fight us.  We just kept walking and ignored them.  However, they continued to engage and challenge Purdue fans as they walked away from the stadium.

Seems like a fanbase with a problem.

I am aware of what happened in 2006 in the UT Social Work building, but did not experience it firsthand.

Was there with 3 buddies. We were walking through frat row at about 11am and proceeded to get pelted with full beer cans. Local cop said “you guys don’t want to be walking past here at night after game”. We took his counsel and moved our car to a different place . Got invited into a house party 3 hours before kick. Thought , why not. Went in and almost had 30 guys beat the shit out of us.

At game, heard things said to 60 year old tx women fans, that would make a sailor blush. Saw tires slashed on many cars at the Texas ex hotel we were staying at. So, in summary:

Fuck Ohio state and their fat fanbase. Will never set foot in that shithole town again.

Let’s roll tonight.

Hook ‘em.

Was there. They were assholes. But also the patrons at whatever bar I was at the night before on High Street bought me a lot of shots after a lot of yelling. We were in the endzone where Limas caught the TD. It was glorious.

I was there with Aus-97horn.  We had a blast.  Didn't really have any bad run ins with OSU fans, actually had a number of good ones.

That said, FUCK THE BUCKEYES

Me neither.

For the record, I have been back to a couple of games with my dad since, and the fan behavior is somewhat improved, because there are SWAT cops with long rifles and riot shields about every 30 yards.  It's the only stadium I've been to that has armored personnel carriers parked around it as a show of force.  I'm serious.

I hope we break those lunatics' hearts tonight.

They also imposed more restrictions on the public drinking.  Lots of UT fans also walked into the belly of the beast immediately after the game.  Go west or due south when you leave the stadium not east. Visiting fans should never go east of high street north of 5th Avenue. I’ll put together a visitors guide before the game next year

I was there.

Backstory: my dad taught at Ohio State for 30 years.  He went to Texas.  I grew up rooting for both (Texas first, because I was raised here, and tOSU against anybody else).

What I saw from those mouth-breathing heathen in 2005 after Limas Sweed broke their hearts made it impossible for me to root for Ohio State ever again.

If you weren't there, I promise you: whatever you've heard, whatever you imagine reading this, it was worse.

That stadium is a madhouse to get out of, shoulder-to-shoulder mosh pit.  I caught about two dozen cheap elbows to my ribs, shoulder checks, and so on.  All I heard was "Fuck you, Tex!" and "Go home, you Texas faggot!"  If you're thinking, "I woulda knocked somebody out," no, you wouldn't have.  It was very clear that you'd have been stomped into the hospital by 30 people if you did.  They wanted you to, so they could.

When we finally made it out of that sewer, I took off my 10 jersey and stuffed it into one pocket of my shorts and my Longhorn hat into the other one, as my only backup was a 60-year-old man and I knew those psychos were only going to get worse as we got away from the stadium and all the cops.  I walked back shirtless across at least a mile of that shitty place, watching people throw Molotov cocktails into dumpsters and light couches on fire in the street.  It looked like Beirut or something.

When we got back to the truck, I told my dad I'd be fucking embarrassed if anything like that ever happened in Austin.  He nodded sadly (remember he invested 30 years of his life into that place) and said, "Yeah, it happened after the Michigan game last year, too."

I said, "Wait, y'all beat Michigan last year."

He looked over at me and said, "Oh, yeah.  It doesn't matter who wins the game.  They do this after every big game either way now."

In conclusion...  Fuck Ohio State in their faces.  I hope we win by 70 and everybody transfers out of that shithole.

Were you there, too?  Tell your story.  Let's get worked up...

I was there in spirit, sorry I'm a poor, so this post and every other post henceforth hit close to home.

Was also there as well sitting right behind Jenna Bush. Her boyfriend was completely trashed by halftime. By the end of the game we were all high fiving the secret service who were next to us.

The walk back to the car was something. OSU fans wanted to start a fight with anyone from Texas.

I've heard some comments on the Longhorn shows this week alluding to how bad it was. Women getting physically accosted, etc.

One thing I didn't know or remember - the school actually issued a formal apology for how their fans treated us.

Was my birthday that day sat in the 2nd deck on the 5 yard line right where Sweed caught the dagger.

Immediately made a beeline for the GameDay set after the game I was wearing my UT baseball jersey and had a buckeye necklace on my fucking phone lit up like an Xmas tree for the next hour.

The buckeye necklace confused the shit out of the buckeye fans but I told them the street vendor selling them said they were good luck so when we win this game you can blame the dude trying to make $5

I was also there for the 2006 Michigan game the following year and let me just state the Michigan fans know orders of magnitude better how to handle the buckeye trash fans than Texas LMFAO.

Fortunately the travelling buckeye fans are solid its just the couch burning live in my parents basement and have never been on an airplane fans in Columbus that suck.

Upper deck end zone when Sweed caught the dagger. Everything happened in that end zone. OSU tight end dropped pass, the safety etc.

Was walking down high street when these punks were accosting the Texas grandmas. By far the worst fanbase ever. Got a lot of OSU buddies trying to talk me into Columbus next year but I’m out. Don’t need that shit for a fucking football game.

I have won enough on my own so don’t need to live vicariously through my team before I go back to work at the loading dock. Fuck those losers.

I was there, got kicked out of the Varsity Club Bar twice in the same day. Once late morning from being still drunk from the random ass Pat Green concert the night before, and then snuck back in after the game and was yelling "Vince Young is Black Jesus" very late in the evening.

Someone wished me my plane would crash on the way home, or I would drown in the hurricanes (Rita).

Was great.
