Woke up this morning, went for a run, worked out, ate some breakfast, then sat down and started thinking about that last shit-ass goal line series one more time.  GD it that sucked.

Now I have to finish taking down the rest of the Christmas decorations that I've been stalling on, and I was looking forward to watching some playoff football while doing so, but I no longer have any desire to watch any football at all, because football is dead to me.

For now.

two fucking plays swung this game. both shouldn't have happened

I have a question from the game. We stayed for the playing of “The Eyes of Texas”. The Longhorn band had to wait for the Buckeye band to finish playing what sounded like Queen’s “Fat Bottomed Girls”. What is that about?

I don’t know but they also played it after the Oregon game. That’s the first time I noticed it. I don’t know what the inspiration is or if there’s some hidden meaning to it. It’s a good song, though.

Sorry if this has already been talked about but was I the only one that noticed it looked like Blackwell was still buckling his damn helmet when the ball was being snapped on the 4th and 2 QB run by Howard?

I noticed it. Also, don’t know if was ever addressed, but we got a false start while the PA announcer was still going through his “Now resuming play, 2nd down and……..”.  Can’t remember how that drive ended but I was pretty upset at the time. Nobody sitting around me noticed.

Would’ve been more like 4th & 7. Percentages favor Texas D in a big way.

No.

Here is the play when he catches it. Already 4 yards and with huge amount of green.

Jahdae flies downfield to cut him down and initiates contact with their TE, and now ball is already only 4 yards away. So even if the tiny Baron wraps him up and drops him immediately its 4th and 4 on the 36. They are not punting, in any world. Ever.

So yes, it would have been great if he wrapped up and help arrived (holmes, also small) to knock him down for no extra yardage. But they were going either way.

4th and 4 or 5 with 10 minutes left with their defense they would have punted.

Keep going, he retreats backwards after initial contact. He’s on the 39 right here.

The line to gain is the 32 yard line. Let’s say they give him the 37-38 yd line. The percentages of converting that vs 4th and 2 is probably less than half as likely.

I watched it.

If we make initial tackles like you said it’s 4th and 4.

He breaks out of baron by going back and then contacts Holmes with the ball at the 38. He is also 40-50 pounds more, higher and now moving forward.

Perfect wrap up and drop and he ends up at 37ish here.

4th and a long three.

They were still going for it.

Inside the 40, tie game, their weapons, 4th and under 8 they are going.

Yes, it would have been nice if his extra effort didn’t gain those extra 3 yards after catch/contact, but it happened.

Wouldn’t have changed that they were going, we weren’t ready, called a timeout and gave away the conversion by alignment and personnel.

Maybe, maybe not. Point being, let’s say 4th and 2 has a 32% successful conversion rate. 4th and 5+ is probably 14% or less against this defense. I’m more so talking about successful conversion probabilities rather than if they go for it or not.

Blue was lights out.

The OL was meh.  Lots of missed assignments and just not getting it done in there.

The defense, well.  That underneath throw that should have been stopped was instead breaking for big yards.  Does PK even do tackling drills?

Quinn had some incredible plays, good and bad.  If he comes back for a senior year, I wish him the best at his new school.

It was a very good year.

Hey all.  Figured I'd give you the weekend before sending in my postmortem.  Texas had a great gameplan and played exactly the way they needed to.  They were one of the few teams in the field that could drop so much into coverage and still get pressure on Howard - your secondary is legit and they made this game close.  In fact I think the two best defenses in CFB were on the field Friday night.

IMO Ewers played an outstanding game, outside of his inability to escape pressure in the pocket.  His little last-split-second flip to keep your 2nd scoring drive going likely would have been the play of the game had you pulled it out.  I know you're ready for the Manning Moment, but Ewers and Sarkisian have brought you back to prominence and I'm thankful for that.  On that note, I agree with the criticism of that late goal-line pitch play (we had just tried a similar thing earlier on 3rd and inches, and also failed) but overall Sark has done an unbelievable job of building the program and hopefully you all are enjoying the ride.  He's done WAY better than I anticipated when he was hired.  With his recruiting I expect you'll be playing on this stage on a regular basis going forward.

How dare you be a somewhat likeable Ohio State fan! I guess there had to be one somewhere. It is either that or the fumes from the burning couches have gotten to your head.

Hell of a team y'all have. It took a ton of effort to somewhat contain all your weapons (fucking screen). I'd say good luck, but I wouldn't mean it. I expect Ohio State to crush ND, but I'm not rooting for it.

I think the 2 best teams played each other at the Cotton Bowl in a de-facto NC game and I think they dominate ND in the second half.

I refrained from posting in this thread long enough, so here I am.

We can debate the calls on 4th and one and also on D with 29 secs left till half all the way to the start of the '25 season, but it won't change anything. Yes, I believe we could have taken down the Domers for the first championship since '05, but we'll never know now.

I think this team pretty much maxed out it's potential this year, (notice I said "pretty much") especially starting off with limited options in the running game which affected the offense as a whole. The defensive line exceeded expectations, and with a few exceptions our DB's did a good job of limiting opposing passing games from going off on us.

That said I'm proud of the way the team went about their business this year and have a feeling next season's version of the Longhorns won't be the type to lose to Georgia twice and mostly avoid the type of mistakes that almost cost us the Zona State game and finally bit us in the ass vs tOSU. In any case we get the opportunity for near instant revenge in game one. Hook em

What's frustrating to me about this season is the lack of hardware. If we had won the SEC, I think I would feel less bitter about this ending. That said, I guess winning 2 playoff games does feel somewhat better than last year being 1 and done.  Two years in a row we needed to make a play in the redzone at the end of the game and couldn't. Sigh.

Thanks!  Glad we got at least one of y'all 😉 That definitely has to be the minority stance around most of the country.  Not that we've been winning titles hand over fist or anything, but as consistent as we are I imagine Ohio State fatigue set in for most people sometime around, oh, 1972.  I guess it's a cross we must bear.

And anyway, Freeman may have improved Notre Dame's likeability quotient, but it's still Notre Dame.  I was raised to consider them Enemy #1B, so it's easy to revert to that for the next week.

You're a really unlikable fan base. Seriously, y'all are assholes. Like, legit you're just mean and violent.

The 2005 game vs TX was outstandingly bad in that respect.  A combo of overhype, overdrinking, and night games still being a novelty at the time.  It has improved greatly since then but I don't blame you for your resentment.  FWIW I had a similar experience as a visiting fan at Penn State just a few weeks after that game.  No fun.

Here I'll double down on my problem...I'm also an Eagles fan, inasmuch as I pay attention to the NFL.

Just kidding, you've been an excellent guest.  Hope you stick around.

Why is Cole Hutson in for DJ Campbell on the 1st and goal play from the 1? And why is Nate Hibble (who's literally never played an offensive snap) in the game missing the most crucial block on that play? Haven't read the thread but has this been discussed?
