He was a huge part of turning this program around and I’ll always appreciate him. He’s not VY, but he was damn good and better than we’ve had in a long time. Hook ‘em Quinn!

He’s Chris Simms reincarnate.

and there was over a DECADE where I would have killed to have a Chris Simms at Qb.

Quinn brought us the first huge transfer in the portal. He brought us huge wins over Bama, aggy, ou, Michigan, and so many others. He got us a Big 12 title and a victory lap around that conference. He got us to the SEC championship game and two final fours. All fantastic and worthy of celebrating.

Most importantly he did it all without drama. Texas is a fishbowl and that particular position comes with more stress and heat than any other sports position on campus, across sports. And having Arch as second string would've torpedoed team chemistry with the wrong QB1. Quinn handled all of that with grace. He is leaving with a great reputation as a leader, a teammate, and as a great representative of UT. Hook 'em, Quinn. You're a certified badass motherfucker.

Super important call out.

If Arch is who we think he’s gonna be and if we look back and win it all and see the progression and trajectory just keep going up, we can look back and point to Quinn being the transition QB who made that happen. A lesser QB creates a situation where the boise is too loud and Arch transfers (either because he or his family don’t want to deal with it).

Shit we trotted out Casey Thompson.  At least Tyrone is cool.

Let's not forget  Connor Brewer and Garrett Gilbert.

Cross post from another thread. I did not see this thread

---------

Though I have been a critic of QE's fanboys and QE's red zone clutch performance ...  I'm not gonna trash and attack QE for that fumble.

Of course, it was a huge gaffe (along with Sark's idiotic play-calling with first down at the 1, surely the worst goal line calls in UT history).

I really feel for QE: Seriously. Here's why:

I'm in the arena of public art and intellectual life ... flying solo ... doing stuff with my name on it ... in public ... not a faceless cog in a corporation.

And I have blown a couple of golden opportunities that I regret to this day. Massive failures ... from arrogance and hubris and just fucking up royally great chances. Embarrassing. Took years to get it rolling in my career again.

And took years to get kinda over it. Still not over it, as this post shows.

-- Granted, this is not the stage of college football, but I know how it feels to fail in public.

But, I also worked my ass off and had major successes and won legit international awards (albeit in obscure artsy fartsy worlds)

Total failures and big successes.

I can assure you QE has a sick sick sick sick sick sick feeling. And it will last for years. If not the rest of his days.

I truly feel for QE. He tried his best, but it was not enough. He's a real Longhorn. I wish him nothing but the best going forward.

Hook'em QE.

When he transferred inbhere we thought we had another Vince, or in the least a colt. We got Quinn, there's a lot to be said there. Nevertheless it was all pretty damn good too. Hook'em #3

Thanks Quinn. I wonder just how much injuries really limited him this season. I think his ability to read defenses pre snap and an nfl HC who gives him freedom to audible will make him a very rich man in the pros.

The last time we won 25 games over two years was 2008-2009.  The time before that was never...

So thanks Q.  Best of luck in the NFL, I hope you have a long long career

I’ll always be grateful for Quinn beating aggy, along with the rest of the team of course. The way he made some fantastic throws, followed by inexplicable mistakes was a microcosm of the season. But it was awesome how aggy had fleeting moments of hope before Quinn kneeled it for the final snaps in Kyle Field. Thanks to Quinn and Blue, Taaffe, Helm, and many others for that win.

Quinn and my son played travel baseball together back in middle school. I had no idea who he was but started hearing stories from other parents on the team. Scholarship offers starting in 6th grade, etc. (Major eyeroll from me at the time)

He was a nice, respectful kid and a good teammate.

Fast forward to all the stuff we are well familiar with:

1. Committing and de-committing to Texas.
2. Skipping Senior year and taking the bag from the Buckeyes

3. Portal from OSU to TX (another bag)

4. 3 year starter (highs and a few lows)

5. Injuries

6. Arch over his shoulder

I heard someone on the radio say recently “ he has to compete with a concept of the perfect QB as his backup“ and I think that “concept” certainly clouds the lens many use to look at Quinn.

I hope Arch is great, but short of a Heisman and National Championship I don’t think he can live up to expectations. But hopefully he can get us consistently to conference championship games and at least National Semifinals or he’ll be a real bust.

Thank you to Quinn for all you have done to put Texas deservingly back in the national conversation and being a representative of our University of whom we all can (should) be proud.  Good luck in whatever your next step is. Hopefully history will treat your tenure here more kindly than some of us have.

Rooting for Quinn in whatever comes next for him. He’s a winner and a Longhorn through and through who I think will be remembered very fondly as time goes on.

You think arch manning came to Texas to not win a Heisman and a national championship?

I feel like Quinn committing to Texas just closed the door for what 10 plus years of misery.  In my mind he was the player that flipped the script before he ever even took a snap.  Thank you Quinn you balled out and always represented Texas the right way.  I will always root for your success.

Been a wild ride since I first learned who he was on the morning of his first commitment. Was fun to watch him grow up over the last few years and contribute to a couple unforgettable seasons.

For some reason, unjustified accolades grind my gears.  To an extent that's not the player's fault at all.  But, by leaving HS early and taking a couple of mercenary bags, first at tOSU then here, he played into and took advantage of that.  And I guess I can't blame him for that.

So, in the process, he helped create a hype that he could never live up to.

That said, he seems like a low-key relatively humble and "classy" player and you can't fault his effort.  And as noted in this thread, he did some very good stuff here for the Longhorns, even if it wasn't all on the field.

So, for all of that, I am grateful.  Good bye and good luck.

Absolutely, that’s Arch’s reason for being here just like it was Quinn’s and Colt’s and uncle Peyton’s at Tennessee, etc.

I’m just saying if that (ultimate satisfaction) is the only measure of success the odds are against it.

The ultimate satisfaction ( national championship) should always be the standard at Texas, but that doesn’t mean everyone who falls short of that is a bust or failure. That should apply to Arch as well.

Thank you #3.  You brought us back to where we could again care about football.  You brought us back up the point where people could bitch about us and hate us instead of pitying us.  So many big games and looking forward to cheering you on in the NFL.

I will always remember Quinn diving head first into TWO Ohio State linebackers while trying to get a first down. It still blows my mind that people questioned his toughness. I hope he tears it up in the NFL and makes all of his doubters eat shit

Not sure he said that or even insinuated that.

Quinn transferring here was light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. We have emerged from that tunnel in part because of him. Thanks #3, you will forever have my respect. Some of the best wins in program history came with him at the helm.

If Arch gets us a national title, there's going to be a lot of "What if we had developed him earlier so he could have played in the 2024 playoffs?"

That said, I don't understand the Ewers hate on his way out the door.  I was not a fan of his play this year heading into the playoffs and we'll never know if Arch could have delivered more with this team, but Ewers has damn sure been a strong net positive and a big part of our rebirth.  Longhorn Football is much better for him having passed through the locker room.  His shortcomings will be someone else's problem now.  I am appreciative of all the many good things he was able to do during his time at Texas.

Perfectly said.  If Arch was not standing on the sideline, Ewers' would be loved by every Longhorn near and far.  It has to be mentally taxing to play a sport knowing you're one of the best on the field, but no matter how well you play, there are still those clamoring for your untested backup to take your place.  And there were times you could see on his face that it bothered him.  But he never became a distraction.

Yeah. I felt sorry for him at times for having to deal with the Arch hype. I think he came back too soon because of it. However, he handled it as well as possible.
