2024 Season “What if?” Thread

I’ll start.

What if we hadn’t knocked Carson Beck out of the SEC Championship game?

We had shut Georgia down pretty well to that point, and we struggled defending Stockton initially once he entered the game (presumably because we had not prepared to play against his style).

What if we had called a different defense on the 75 yard screen TD play last night?

That was the play that we never really caught back up to. Broke our backs at the worst time, and I think that was really the difference in the game.

Just now, David Dennison said:

Yeah, I disagree on that screen being the thing that did us in, mainly because we tied the game up in the third.

It was the goal line disaster in the fourth that cost us the game.

I’m just saying that if we had gone into half tied, it wouldn’t have felt like we were chasing points all night. We never took advantage of being tied by scoring and going ahead.

We stopped them to start the 2nd half and did nothing with it. At the point of that screen, we had momentum. It lasted minutes.

What if Bond didn’t drop that 3rd and middle for a first down? I think the game changes if we drive and score there and it was a massive drop by a MASSIVE underwhelming and underperforming player this year.

Im not one to disparage or be ugly to any of these kids but for those lashing out at Quinn, there are better targets IMO and one likes his milkshakes shaken not stirred, if you get my drift.

I do think we probably beat Georgia if Beck doesn't get hurt. Georgia's emotionally charged drive rallying behind their young backup out of the half doesn't happen in that world and the defense was throttling the Georgia offense with Beck. SEC championship probably has the most what ifs of the year. If nothing else, we'd have actual hardware which would be nice.

First Georgia game was an ass kicking and I don't think there's much to what if about. Last night has some for sure - what if we don't give up the screen, what if Sark doesn't have a stroke on the headset on second down, what if Ewers is a little sharper and some of those botched throws are converted, what if Bond has hands, etc. Ohio State also has some too and that game could have been a lot worse. They're just a better team this year so I don't sweat it too much even though it was a painful way to lose.

Right, my first thought was “what if that fumble by Bolden didn’t pop right back into his hands on the kick off”

My two biggest what ifs are what if Baxter didn't get hurt and what if Bond was healthy all year. Not having better options running the ball and getting Quinn some relief was a large factor in all 3 losses. Even with Baxter they may have still happened but I would've loved to have seen what a consistent running game could do. Wisner was really good but he stumbled against better competition.

If I had a gf, I would've been banging her instead of dwelling on the fact that we've barely missed the championship game twice in a row, in very winnable games.

True. But we’re also the only team to have made the playoffs the last two seasons. We’re getting there.

I will trade your loss to Ohio State to get in the championship game for our win over Tulane in a bowl whose name I can’t remember.

It must be like women and childbirth - the pain of numerous sucky seasons is instantly forgotten once your team gets its act together and is good again and close to championships.

if Sark continues recruiting like he has, the occasional bad play calling won’t matter because your Jimmy’s and Joe’s will overwhelm the opposition.

Call me crazy but in hindsight I actually think this might go  the other way. This team has gone into every half the whole season confident and complacent and comes out unprepared in the 3rd quarter. If that play happens to start the 3rd quarter instead of end the half I think this game goes differently. They had twenty minutes to process it and regroup and frankly play better than the other team in the 3rd quarter for once

What If Adolf Hitler Was Accepted to Art School?

Had Adolf Hitler been accepted to art school, the cascading effects on the United States' rise as a global power would likely have been profound. Without Hitler’s leadership, Nazi Germany may never have emerged, and the course of World War II would have been entirely altered—or avoided altogether.

Without the massive mobilization effort required for World War II, the United States might not have experienced the same rapid economic and industrial growth that propelled it to global dominance.

The Marshall Plan, which cemented America’s influence by rebuilding Europe, would never have existed, nor would the Bretton Woods Conference, which established the dollar as the world’s reserve currency.

The Cold War, too, might have taken a different shape—or not existed at all. Without the division of Germany and the spread of communism spurred by the war’s outcome, the geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union might have been less acute. Instead, the U.S. could have focused inward, delaying its global interventionism.

The "American Century" might never have dawned in the same way.

What if Jaylon Guilbeau blocked one guy instead of celebrating the pick in the SEC championship?

I agree with this, we have had the lead in most of our games at half, in the previous 6 games we were outscored 41-6 and the previous 9 it’s 58-16, all of which we had the lead. In UGA/1 we outscored them 15-0.  When we are behind we seem to make adjustments, when we aren’t behind we sniff farts because there’s no need to adjust.

So many what ifs… I’m on team go under center and keep trying from the 1, 4 tries.  If you don’t make it you weren’t good enough or want it enough, at least you have them in a tight spot.

Holding was basically allowed so we should have installed that in our offensive game plan.  The pass interference calls in the end zone helped them immensely by shrinking the field.   I like the idea of a heavy package but we aren’t good trying to use it.  The DL gets low and submarines into the backfield, OL should hold on and pancake them, lead with a heavy to stomp on the defenders grasping hands and arms leading the ball carrier and another heavy behind him pushing him like a snow plow.   I dunno, has to be better than a slow developing horizontal pitch 8 yards behind the LOS

two years in a row, losing the top rb
sucks
that rb room needs to be much deeper

We were snakebit for sure. But could have used some veteran talent even if Baxter were healthy. That last minute grad-transfer dude who got hurt doesn’t count.

I don’t think they were squandered. We didn’t win it all, but they moved the program forward immensely. We’ve had far more success in the last two years than any living aggie has experienced for his team.

this program is headed in the right direction

What if we let Tech pay for Ewers and we went after Cam Ward (cheaper) instead?

Pass on all-time highest recruit ever Ewers for a no-star recruit transfer from Incarnate Word??  Yeah, I’m sure Surly would’ve loved that….
