Anyone been to Best Quality Daughter ? I am intrigued.

I've been a couple times.  It's good, not great, but I still think it's worth checking out.  The cashew chicken, brussels sprouts and curry shrimp fried rice stood out as things I would order again.

I enjoyed it but they rushed us through our meal because another reservation was coming. I would like to go back when we had more time.

As far as San Antonio chains go, I was shocked to see the proliferation of Las Palapas. They are everywhere now. I still miss the original location on West Avenue in the old Waffle House building.

And they are not very good anymore.  I used to love Palapas.  Now it’s Taco Palenque 100% of the time for fast food Tex Mex.

taco palenque is damn good Mexican fast food. Their sit down restaurant at la canterra is good too.

last time I was there, a tranny cross dresser had his eyes on me

Taco palenque has a noticeable drop in quality north of Laredo imo. But I haven’t been to one in SA in like a year, maybe it’s changed.
Weren't you the same one that compared paesanos to olive garden? Just saying. You either doing a bit or have long covid

I said it was “like a really fancy Olive Garden”. I actually like Olive Garden so I stand by it. If I want Italian food here I’m going to Julian’s or Milano over paesanos. And yeah I think Taco P isn’t as good up here as it is down south.

It’s best in Laredo.

‘It’s still damned good here. At least the one I frequent is.

I went to fiesta last night for the first time since I was a kid. Wasn’t NIOSA anymore but I still went to the mercado & cathedral. Shit ton of people. I surprisingly didn’t hate it, and parking wasn’t that hard to find and was only $15. Chill vibes out there and had some really great funnel cake.

We were in SA this weekend visiting our daughter (nopics). We had a quick brunch at La Panaderia Saturday morning that was great, then hit the King William Fair for the day. Drinking many $10 cups of beer and a spicy chicken breast with a jalapeño on a stick allowed me to push through the whole day. We ended up at Beto’s Alt Amex for dinner and slammed some chicken poblano empanadas for dinner.

The wild fire at Bullis looked pretty bad when we were headed up 281 after the fair. Had to go back to daughters place to check animals before eating.

I live 600 yards from Beto’s.

Hits close to home.

Que triste carbon.

Funnel cake is the only thing I ate there. It’s maybe my favorite dessert of all time. That and beignets. Only get a couple chances to eat either of them a year so I have to take full advantage.

Were were gonna go Friday night but by the time we got headed out it was close to 9 and I think they close then.  We hit Tomatillo's for dinner instead.  Daughter and her boyfriend went to Trinity and his parents lived within walking distance of the Broadway location so they were regular's.  Spicy salsa is pretty damn good for a restaurant salsa.

Did y’all go to the new one on 1604? They closed the one on Broadway right?

Rolling into town for a week for a conference.  Staying close to La Cantera Resort (what part of town you guys call that?)

Anyway, dinner recs out that direction?  Naked beggar establishments?  Won't have car, so keep that in mind . . .

Thanks!

How far can you walk?

La Cantera mall has a bunch of restaurants, with something for everyone, for a range of prices.

The Rim, across I-10 has a few more options.  Lupe Tortilla is good.

La Cantera Resort itself has 1 or 2 restaurants, and it might be worthwhile just to walk around the resort.  Is your conference there?

Never been to a titter in SA but there aren’t any anywhere near La Cantera. Like Miggy said the mall and  the Rim have a ton of restaurants but they are going to be your mall massive shopping center types.

If you don’t want to uber. Here is a list of places that are a step up from your super chains.

Whiskey Cake, Perry’s, Gloria’s, North Italian, Southerleigh Haute South, UniKo Sushi and Redland Grill.

If you like beer they have a Yardhouse in the mall that has a huge selection, also you could Uber to Freetail on 1604 very easily.

Pat Green has a bar in the RIM that can be a decent time. They also just opened a Kung Fu Saloon and another  bar by the same team but they attract the UTSA crowd( don’t know your age)

I call that part of town Northwest Jesus. As Miguelito said, there's a lot of places out there at the Rim and the mall, but most of it is chain restaurants. Lebong is more familiar with that area than I am, apparently. If you are going to be here for a week and you've never been to San Antonio before, it's probably worth it to grab an uber and get out of that part of town to go explore the Pearl and/or downtown.

I haven't been to the tiddies bar here in years, but the Palace was the nicest one back in the day. It's probably a 15-20 minute uber from La Cantera depending on traffic. All-Stars is closer but I don't even know if it is open. It looks run down as hell from the street.

That whole area is set up to serve the UTSA and tourist community in town for Sea world or Fiesta Texas.   There must be 20-30 hotels in a 10 mile radius from 10 and 1604.

Restaurant recos are spot on.  I didn't see Palenque Grill mentioned.   You could also Uber out west a tad to a few more establishments like La Gloria and Silo Oyster etc.   Their is a  pretty nice food truck spot also not far from where you are called The Block.   Can also be hit or miss.   Sunday brings out the mimosa crowd.

Same on peelers places.  Haven't been in a long time but Palace or Men's Club are considered the higher end.  if you like skanky tatted latinas (which I do) then PTs or Sugars.   All stars is the closest.   If you go there and its not good then walk accross the street to Bone Headz. They usually have some smoking hot bar tenders.

If you want happen to be here on a Sunday then hit up Hills and Dales.  Also about a 5-10 min uber.  It brings out the big titted young ones and the douches who love them but its a good view.

That new pizza place Parry’s is pretty good over at Vance Jackson/1604 by top golf.

Hills and Dales now charges guys 5-10$ cover charge on weekends. It’s completely catered to college crowd now.

Rock and Rye is pretty cool at the Rim. There is a kung fu saloon and a camp 1604 by top gold as well they’re not bad.

Damn college girls and their tights bodies and loose morals.  Definitely avoid that place.  You'll be much better off at one of the older bars where the avg age is 60 and they do lines of viagra in the bathroom and the women keep Dr. Bob in business

In 15 years I have never paid a cover charge and I didn't pay one yesterday..checks notes.  it was the wknd.   Must be much later in the evening and lets not forget the same person is asking about going to strip clubs so I doubt a $5 cover charge is much of a concern.   No doubt its not for everyone was just throwing some bars out uber distance. If he doesn't like it he can uber to one of the sterile tourist filled or alcoholic single mom bars listed above if that's more his style.  Personally I have zero issues with any bar as long as the service is good, they have cold beers and few good bodies to look at.

Upscale a few weeks ago before Rent at the Majestic.

Food, drinks, and ambiance were all good but prices were over the top. $200 for small plates and left still hungry.

Best Quality Daughter is definitely one of the better meals out we've had in San Antonio lately. Noodles were delicious. Drinks have an Asian spin and are creative and tasty.

Taco Palenque at Evans is open. Drive thru only right now. It is total madhouse. You go through the drive thru to order and pay and then go park in a parking spot to wait on your food.

Taco Cabana in the same parking lot is empty.

Eddie's Taco House on Cevallos has historically been cash-only and drive-thru always has a line. They've just started accepting cards.
