I always thought it was very cool, pretty much the only cool thing in Victoria.

I'm in San Antonio a lot for work, but not R&R.  I'm thinking about taking my wife to San Antonio for a weekend in January to celebrate her birthday.  Where's the best place to camp out for a couple days, with restaurants and bars in walking distance?  The Pearl?  Downtown?  La Cantera?

Sorry if this topic is covered earlier in the thread, but too lazy to scroll through the last 50 pages.

no brainer right here

I figured, but thought I'd ask, since I didn't want to assume anything about The Pearl on the chance it was Domain-ish.  Will book at Hotel Emma.  What's good to eat around there?

Southerleigh serves good food.

the pearl is very centrally located, short uber to many good places and plenty within the pearl compound

hit a bill millers for some fine iced tea

Prickly Pear Marg from Southerleigh with some snapper throats will change your life.

In the actual Pearl: Mon Chou Chou is probably my favorite, Southerleigh and Cured are also good. Not as big of a fan of Supper in the Hotel Emma, but it's fine. I don't think the food is great at La Gloria, but it's a nice patio for a margarita by the river if the weather is good. Curry Boys BBQ on St. Mary's Street is walkable (~15 minutes). It's not upscale but the food is fantastic and original.

Thanks, guys.  I know it's her birthday and special weekend, but really I'm just trying to optimize my chances of getting laid, so appreciate the recommendations.

Supper fucking sucked when we went. Mon Chou Chou is great.

Our preference is South Town so we stay at The Inn on the Riverwalk. It’s a bed and breakfast establishment. Rosario’s, Mixtli, and The Maverick are an easy walk. If you are comfortable walking in that area, there is Bliss, Hands Down, and Casa Hernan. Lots of other new bars in King William.

Some pretty big projects starting to move.

New airport terminal project broke ground this week.

Old SAISD building redevelopment on Alamo in Southtown got approval from the zoning and historical commission.

The city is moving forward with “plans” and feasibility studies for new downtown sports complex by the Hemisphere.

Mon Chou Chou was very good, went for Sunday brunch like a month ago.

I echo Mon Chou Chou. I would also recommend Ladino (mediterranean) and Best Quality Daughter (asian), on the level with Cured and well ahead of places like Southerleigh, Supper, and La Gloria. The pizza spot in the food hall is good, and the new burger place in there looks solid, although I haven't been. Bakery Lorraine for breakfast is great.

If you want to range beyond the Pearl proper, I would avoid Carriqui or Down on Grayson. Josephine St. is fine if you aren't looking for anything fancy. But my recommendation would be to walk south on the river to Tres Trattoria for a decent Italian spot. It's a shame Allora shut down because that place was fantastic.

Gotta go to Greeks now for the best steak in town. Fortunately someone bought the sign and it has been saved.

I might try it the next time I am in Victoria but I've been meaning to try out The Pump House for my next visit.

Me and Mrs popabitch stayed at the menger (king ranch suite) because we are super into horror related fun. We tried the fajita and barbacoa tacos at Mengerita tacos. Thought they would suck due to it being a tourist spot. Damn was I wrong. Bomb ass tacos.

Pump House isn’t bad but it’s nothing special at all.  Nice for a nicer place in Victoria.  I can’t believe the last one that was on top of the bank building closed, I always liked it a lot.

If you or her have any interest in Jazz, you should absolutely book a table at Jazz TX which is right there across from Hotel Emma in the Pearl.

The bar at the hotel is cool. The farmers market is right there and huge on Saturday.

It's a great central spot.

Great rec. We go pretty regularly. It’s a good time, good drinks.

Every restaurant at the Pearl is good. Serious.

You also say shit like Ruth's Chris is good. So.....

You know I’m right. It’s also hilarious to me that people refuse to admit that chains can have great food. But hey I’m sure that scores you food snob points.

So the only place I’ve been to of the elite Pearl restaurants is Landino. It’s was very good, sharing style plates. Pullman market is really cool as well. The burger place in there looks great and I’ve been meaning to try it.

Sarcasm? Down on Grayson and Bakery Lorraine fucking suck.

Down on Grayson is also not in the Pearl. I wouldn’t say their food is superb but it’s great place to day drink and have a pretty good meal.

Down on Grayson is a place you go for like a birthday dinner because of the atmosphere and drinks.

You can get a steak that is Ruth’s Chris “good” from Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn for a fraction of the price.

Oh god not this shit. Is “literally across the street from the Pearl and in the same damn parking lot” better for you?

And Bakery Lorraine is just shitty hipsterized even more overpriced Starbucks. But maybe I’m biased because I think all macarons are garbage.

You tell us that Ruth’s Chris is good but Bakery Lorraine is over priced? You’re all over the place dude.

Steakhouse experience vs coffeehouse experience. Not hard to understand. And everyone is just completely ignoring the fact that I said Bohanons and Perry’s were better, and that Ruth’s is just a solid 2nd tier option

For a steakhouse experience Ruth’s Chris is even worse for the price point lol

It’s whack. Every restaurant near it is better
