Got an article delivered to me about South Garden Chinese on Fredericksburg Road.  $8.75 gets you a very nice filling lunch, with your choice of soup, an egg roll, and choice of rice.  I chose the chicken with broccoli.  I am a cheapo, always drinking water with lemon, so this does the job for me.  I went this afternoon, messed up and arrived after 4 p.m. so I had to choose the higher priced dinner menu.  For $12.95, I got a tremendous sized platter of the strangest Beef and Broccoli I have ever had.  Plenty of beef and broccoli of course, but a serious amount of sliced carrots mixed in as well.  Super delicious, I just looked it up and it has 3.9 stars...how?  Also, the highest quantity of sauce on a. beef and broccoli ever.  I poured the leftover sauce along with the leftover rice, and some sweet and sour sauce back into the cup that contained the soup and ate the combo to finish the meal.

Great service on the water refills.  Now have the Tex Mex and this Chinese place in good rotation, hearty late lunch can be had for $11 plus tip.   Don't really miss a burger at this point.  Chinese joint is much healthier I believe.

Went to the Christmas deal with lights, ice skating and the slide at the Toyota Field.  Don’t waste your money, It’s definitely not worth the $45 or whatever the tickets are and $10 to park. Great idea though because they are making a killing.

Agreed, seemed like a money grab. We went on a night that it ended up raining so they shut down the slide and the light up dance floor. Wouldn't have been worth it if those were open anyway.

Pretty sure I've mentioned it but next time you are at Data point go to the gas station next door and grab some dumplings for later

Which location?

I’ve been a regular at Erick’s and El Regio for many years. Recently tried a new spot in the same area called Tacos El Takin.
The good: great dirty fries, great campechecos (mix of pastor, asada, chorizo, etc.)

The meh: Charro (far too sweet)

The life changing: Pambazo. Never had one of these before. It’s a torta but they did the bread in a red sauce. Absolutely fire.

I tried shake shack for the first time yesterday to see what all the hype is about.  I don't like hamburgers, so I got the chicken nuggets, and they weren't all that great. The shake was very good, but all in all I don't see what all the fuss is about.

I was set up on a date with Salma Hayek, but I I don’t like boobs or curves, so I spent the whole date staring at her earlobes. They’re fine, I guess.

Maybe I was being unfair. It was my first time going to a BBQ place in SA that wasn’t Rudy’s or Blanco. I knew it was one of “the big 3” (Reese Bros, 2M) so I figured it’d be worth a shot. But yeah I’ve never liked brisket so it’s not a food genre I dive into much, I think I should just stick to pollo asado and fried chicken spots.

Cross post from the bbq thread.

Reese Bros.

Brisket was excellent. Really thick cut (1/4 inch). Great bark, flavor. Just really well done. A notch below Terry’s or Pink’s but still very high level. The queso Fundido was pretty great also. Just another really well done meat. Homemade tortillas were exceptional. Turkey was real good. All sides were good except potato salad was kinda whack.

Definitely worth going and would definitely go back. Really good stuff.

Spoiler

Guy. Don't wait for an hour for bbq on a Saturday, then order fucking birds.

I'd you to that, somehow not order the ribs they are pretty famous for or brisket then you are going to have a bad time 100/100 times.

My real question is the wait? I have never waited more than 15-20 minutes at Pinkertons. During the Alamo Bowl vs Washington the line was outrageous so we just went somewhere else.

I’ve heard it’s got some serious wait times now. Doesn’t make sense to me though. It’s really great but it’s open all day so don’t understand the reason for a wait time like that

I went a few weeks ago on a Sunday and the line was inside, nothing outside 10 minutes. Probably dependent on tourism and weather.

Anyone got any good Mediterranean recs? How about Indian? Cant seem to find anything other than really generic.

For Indian we would hit up Simi’s. For Mediterranean I guess there’s Demo’s. But Moshe’s was my go to back in the day.

Last time I went the line was down the patio but it only took maybe 25 mins. Woulda been faster had the dude in front of me not had to be explained how to order by the pound.

I used to go there often for their Dinner Parties when they had them. We would break plates and all that. Once got a piece of flying plate stuck in my leg. The Belly Dancers were fun also.

Really good food.  I need to get back as it's been many many years and I didn't even realize they were still around.
