Texas at OU Sucks - 9 PM on the SEC Network

This team has good players. Top to bottom probably a more talented team than last year.

Makes it all the more frustrating. Maybe they find a way to string together some wins when the schedule gets a tad easier in a few weeks. Won’t be holding my breath.

Thank you, Jordan Pope. You were overwhelmingly the difference in winning and losing here tonight. What else is in the take-home lesson?

1. Shedrick tries but just isn't good enough to be an effective starter. Sadly, that has to be his role on this roster. Kent was a perimeter screener of no other discernible value tonight.

2. Johnson and Kaluma might need to split a bottle of NyQuil before our next tipoff. Too frantic under duress for much of the night. But at least both had flurries of key points.

3. This is one of the worst passing teams we've had. Stagnant halfcourt motion and unimaginative OOB sets only worsen the issue. All that, plus our bigs' difficulties scoring around the rim, adds up to sporadic flow and puts extra pressure on our guards to create decent shots for themselves.

Abridged version of the above: Against all odds, we survived. Really nice for the men and women both to win in Norman this year.

I, on the other hand, did it the worst way possible.  I turned it on early in the second half with a 20-something point lead and promptly watched the offense grind to a halt while OU came back (and not in that playing awesome everything falling kind of way - they weren't particularly impressive either).  It was a staggering display of incompetent offense and lackluster defense.  But hey, we won.

Yep.

Pope, Kaluma, or Johnson creating their own shots. That's our offense.

Put the ball in Jordan's hands at the end of games, he's our closer and probably best all around player.

We need an administration change, but always a good night if we beat OU in Norman.

This is a much better roster than last year. But a worse product on the court. We definitely have the pieces to be good, but you can so clearly see how poorly they are coached. This should be a lock down defensive team.

I must agree. This team can't practice on the defense because they are too busy figuring out the offense. Their system is to get the ball, shoot, and score. Let's go ISO or hero ball when the offense gets stagnant.

Hero ball!

Hero Ball! One of the commentators in a prior game said Texas plays "My Turn" ball. You shot it last time; it's my turn. Some of these guys can shoot the ball, even though it's a tough shot most of the time, because there's no offense to get them open. They can score but then give up points on the other end with no defense. I guess it's ok to give up shots as long as they are making shots, and that's on the coaches. We had eight assists; six were in the first half, and Arthur and Larry had 3.  Then two in the second half.  This shows you the team plays Hero ball and My Turn ball.  We won, though, so the coaches are good.

This has been the offense the entire time: create your own shot with no offense.

Don't forget our defense.  The "hope for help" defense.  Let your man drive past you and hope for help.  If you are a front side defender don't bother to help.  If you are a backside defender, go to the basket and make a half assed block attempt while leaving your man wide open for the three.

I went to bed a bit into the 2nd half because I had to get up at 5:30, so imagine my surprise at the final score.  This team is not good.

Same.

But you know what, if joy is gonna be hard to come by this season, then I'm gonna just smile at the fact that ou still hasn't beaten us in like 4 years.  Some of them were hurt last night, and that sits well with me, no matter the score.

Also, fuck ou.

Don't let the score fool you - OU hasn't beaten Texas in men's hoops in 1,414 days

This is my biggest frustration so far, and with zero rim protection, it absolutely can’t continue if there’s any hope of making the tourney. Teams that don’t drive to the basket hard against us right now have morons for coaches.

Same. As much as Shedrick deserves criticism, our perimeter defense is fucking terrible and our bigs are being hung out to dry on many occasions. I don't ever remember seeing opposing teams be able to blow by guards at such a consistent rate.
