in the moments just after the game ended secn started their postgame show

finebaum had the last word in the opening segment:

+++

"what's going to haunt steve sarkisian all winter long is this:

he could have beaten ohio state tonight, that is not in question

and tennessee couldn't have and oregon couldn't have they were both out of the game so quickly

even though Texas made mistakes, they couldn't pass block, they couldn't develop a running game consistently,

they still had a chance to put this game in their hands and they let it all slip away

i mean this was not the ohio state team we've been hearing about on national programs

this was an awkward team that was affected maybe by the run and made enough mistakes to lose but they made the plays to win

and it's really too bad for Texas because they could have won and should have won this game"

+++

my take from the first edition of 12 teams is this:

when you get to a final 4 after everyone has had to play at least one team that was good enough to get in, there is not that much difference in overall competitiveness; we saw that with domer and pedder going back and forth; we saw that with Texas inside the 1 with a chance to tie at the end of the game; as pawl said, this was not the all-galaxy jort we had been told was going to roll Texas

fosu -8.5 is way too high

i think it's a 1-score game

freeman was a 4-year buckeye

ryan day is a douche

and karma is a bitch

i'm taking comet and domer straight up fuck the line

Haven’t had sex (yet) still don’t care.

yeah finnebaum said those things on the SEC post game. Most of the Washington and tOSU losses are on him. Situational awareness, scheme without the right players, too much reliance on cute slow developing misdirection, not adapting enough in game, weird play calling, and for all his culture talk, missing that last “attention to detail” on the OL (penalties), route running, TE/WR blocking, and RB pass protection. He’s gotta dial it in that last bit and more than half of that is on him in the offseason.

get it done Steve.

I shoulda voted for the Asteroid, but it wasn't a choice.

Noter Dame gets my nod, because Freeman looks to be more capable of getting his guys fired up and ready to rock'n'roll. Jake and Elwood will be tossing back shots with a waddle of penguins, and unpredictable events are uhhh unpredicted.

Didn’t Finebaum predict a Texas win?

no. said Ohio state will roll. and actually has talked pretty bad about us on his show. openly trashed ewers for some weird reason also. and has all in all dismissed the game and Texas as just another beat down by Ohio state. I wonder if it was Georgia or Alabama that lost the exact same way, would he be acting different about the outcome. and would he be  stanning for the sec if it was a different sec school.

I'm not as excited as I would be normally.  This team is limping towards the finish line with injuries.  (Do you notice the expanded post-seasons never include a contracted regular season?)  Now we are playing for a national title supported by 49 states.  This was already true when we went to the Sugar Bowl and it just got worse, we lost our LT tackle against PSU and his replacement has missed the entire season with injury.

So the 2024 Notre Dame Fighting Irish story is already a success:  We came in wondering if coach Freeman was qualified for the job after the usual 10-15 ranked recruiting class.  Took an OC from the Brian Kelly coaching shrub, that we always complained about.  Took a transfer QB whom we had mauled @Duke 2023 who can't pass. Opened with a road win at an SEC team, lost to Northern Illinois University at home (kept wondering).  Then proceeded to run the table against a medium strength schedule only being threatened a few times.  Screwed out of the 5th seed but can't talk because NIU. Broke a 30 year jinx by winning a major bowl against the backup qb.  Made history by becoming the first team in history to win two major bowls in the same season 🙄 albeit against James Franklin.

So where we were vs where we are.  We are already ahead of where anyone expected.  I'll still be bug eyed every play.   Doubt I'll be livid this time tomorrow barring a ref job.

FYI the local Texas club started chanting NOTRE DAME at the end of their gamewatch last Friday.

How did some choose between comet and asteroid?

Love Sark! I appreciate everything he’s done to “right the ship” since Mack’s gravy trained last few years. Sark needs to hire a trusted, game plan implemented, OC to actually do the play calls. Sark is so great at culture building, recruiting, and a sideline Coach. Nothing wrong with relinquishing play calling duties to an OC.

Hook’em!!!

The best posible outcome is for a close game to be decided by a really, really, really bad call. Personally, I would like to see this happen in ND's favor, but I think OSU makes this ugly starting in the middle of the 3Q. If someone would give me the password to their Apple TV account, I would prefer to watch the 2nd season of Severance. Since everyone is so selfish and that likely won't happen, I will watch college girls on the Tik Toks while asphyxiating myself.

I was thinking along similar lines but I want it to be ND that loses on a bad call because of all the bullshit calls they always get.

Did he? I don’t follow Finebaum but I noticed titles on some YouTube videos when I was searching for Cotton Bowl highlights that suggest otherwise. I didn’t watch any of the videos because life is too short to waste time listening to Paul Finebaum. I think he’s an SEC homer whose opinions aren’t worth a dime. But just searching “ohio state texas” I saw these titles:

“PAUL FINEBAUM believes there will be an easy win for Texas in the CFP Semifinals against Ohio”

“‘Buckeyes are overrated!’ - Paul Finebaum BOLD predicts to Ohio State vs Texas in CFP Semifinal game”

And this for tonight’s game:

“‘Ohio State will self-destruct...’ - PAUL FINEBAUM predicts CFP Finals Ohio vs. Notre Dame”

Doesn’t really matter. He’s a schmuck.

I was talking about his show. It’s a bunch of Texas hate from his callers and he just piles on. Irritating but your right wgas. The game was pretty even except a play here or there. Just like an nfl game. Talking heads keep talking like this is old ncaa football where if you don’t blow someone out your bad or if you lose your bad really. The top teams and rosters will look like nfl games where it’ll be a play here or there and it’s over. Just win is new ncaa with playoff. If it’s a blowout cool.
