51st year of Lions fandom and this is the best team they’ve ever had, with the best route to the Super Bowl.  As a Lions fan I am conditioned by decades of flops and creative ways to lose but this year they feel a bit like a team of destiny. Cautiously optimistic.

<— fully on the Lions bandwagon this postseason.

Plenty of room on the bandwagon so welcome aboard.  I have heard that most fans whose team had been eliminated  are rooting for Lions to finally break through. Not Bears, Packers or Vikings fans of course.

the lions were founded in 1930 as the portsmouth (ohio) spartans

they moved to detroit in 1934 and became the lions

thus 2024 is their 95th season

they have made the postseason 18 times and had "home field advantage" in their 1st and 3rd appearances in 1935 and 1953

in 1957 they won away in san francisco before returning home to beat the browns in the title game so that doesn't "count" strictly speaking

so this is the first year of home field advantage for the lions in 67 years

the lions have played 23 games in the post season with a record of 9-14

between their last title in 1957 and the wildcard win over the rams last year the lions played 13 playoff games with 1 win over dallas in 1991

It is truly a legacy of failure. The biggest chunk of it under William Clay Ford, who was simply an atrocious owner.  I could bore you with some amazing ways the Lions found ways to lose games over the years. Truly unbelievable.

It all makes everything especially sweet now. Check out the crowd tonight and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Bringing this over from last week's thread.

I don’t think that that was OCD and I don’t think that he was superstitious.

I think that he was NERVOUS AF!

1) He wasn’t counting.

2) There wasn’t a pattern.

3) He had his helmet on when he came on the field, but due to the TO, he had to stand around with his thoughts.

4) After removing his helmet, he started to put it on 3 times before finally pushing it down on the 4th “attempt”.

5) In between he “fixed his hair” by using his finger to brush his hair 18 total times, at least.

6) Fixing his hair including long swipes, short swipes, and an occasional finger swipe, no even number of swipes, not mathematical increase in the swipes, just nervous AF and trying to “act calm” before putting g on his helmet before smacking the right upright with his kick.

I would NOT bet on that guy to make a clutch kick from distance. He makes Bert look confident.

Speaking of the ‘91 Lions, recently watched quite a bit of a show on former QB Erik Kramer. Boy, talk about a rough life post playing career…

Longcat wiki:

Spoiler

On October 30, 2011, Kramer's 18-year-old son, Griffen, a senior at Thousand Oaks High School, was found dead at a friend's home from a heroinoverdose. Sheriff's investigators charged four people, including two juveniles, with involuntary manslaughter and possession of a controlled substance.[9]

On August 18, 2015, Kramer attempted suicide by renting a hotel room several miles away from his home and shooting himself in the head. Because of his inexperience with firearms, the shot failed to inflict a fatal wound and Kramer survived.[10]According to Kramer's ex-wife, her husband has a "beautiful soul" but is not the same man she married due to head injuries suffered during his time as an NFL quarterback.[11] Kramer attributed the suicide attempt to existing depression, made worse by Griffen's death and the deaths of both of his parents from cancer. The antidepressants Kramer had been taking to manage his depression were no longer effective nor were any other attempts to treat his condition.[10] Kramer did not rule out that head injuries were a factor in his worsening mood but also noted that he lacked the ability to assess whether close family members truly loved him or knew he loved them even before his playing career.[10]

In the months following the event, a woman named Cortney Baird convinced Kramer to marry her despite Kramer admittedly having the mental capacity of a preschooler at the time and the courts consented to the marriage. However, per legal documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Kramer said he "suffered a traumatic brain injury" after attempting suicide in 2015 that "left him with a lack of mental capacity to legally consent to marriage."

On June 13, 2018, Baird called police and reported Kramer had committed domestic violence. In February 2020, Los Angeles County dropped the domestic violence charges against Kramer but Baird was arrested and charged with 12 felonies, including counts of elder abuse, identity theft and forgery.[12]In petitioning to have his marriage annulled, Kramer said Baird stole $50,000 from him before they were married. Kramer added that Baird "exerted undue influence upon me to convince me, given my weakened mental state, that her actions were not wrongful" before the couple got married in 2016. On January 28, 2019, a Superior Court judge in Los Angeles nullified the marriage.

Kramer eventually regained his mental faculties in 2020, describing the event as a "wak(ing) up."[13]The extensive rehabilitation also cured Kramer of his long-existing depression to the point where he now, as of 2021, lives a largely normal life.[12]

Kramer wrote a book with journalist William Croyle, The Ultimate Comeback: Surviving a Suicide Attempt, Conquering Depression and Living with a Purpose.[14]

On June 25, 2024, Cortney Baird pled guilty to four felony counts: Count 4 [PC 368(d)] theft from an elder/dependent adult; Count 5 PC 470 forgery; Count 10 PC 530.5 identity theft; Count 11 PC 368(d) theft from an elder/dependent adult. Additionally, Cortney Baird admitted to: PC 186.11 allegation taking of over $100,000 PC 803(c) allegation (related to statute of limitations – tolling): RC 4.421 circumstances in aggravation – taking advantage of a position of trust, vulnerable victim, large monetary loss, crime involved sophistication and planning. Cortney Baird was placed on 10 years felony probation, sentenced to 180 days in jail, no working as a caregiver or managing finances of others during probation and Erik Kramer received a 10-year criminal protection order. Cortney Baird is currently incarcerated at Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California.[15]

part of me wouldnt care if Detroit wins. Definitely want them, LA and Washington to win over Philly.

theyre certainly a juggernaut that has drafted insanely well and doing it all this year without their game wrecker defensive end.

AFC i want anyone but the chiefs but I want some good ass games.
