Eh. I just don't care enough.

I might do something for the Longhorns, but, thankfully, there is not an owner involved.

Mack Brown is back in town.

He may not be an owner, but he's got some spotlight time. You know what you need to do.

If nothing else, "Mack Brown is back in town" is a damn fine first line for a bkuesy song.

Samples interviewing for the Cowboys RB job now, per Nick Harris.

Would be his 6th job in 5 years if you include his few month stop at TCU.

Expand

Just when I thought I couldn't hate Jerry anymore, he could go and do something like this...and TOTALLY REDEEM HIMSELF

jk wouldn't care that much but wouldn't hurt to have him no longer recruiting against UT

Also, with no coach limits, if Choice left, why not Samples AND Drayton lol? Samples does all the recruiting, Drayton helps as assistant coach / analyst. Show me a loss.

He’s a volume recruiter that can land 5 stars as well as anyone. These people negging his coaching skills are also idiots. There isn’t another coach for that position that anyone here can confidently state would be an upgrade.

Also, @Codaxx saying the RB “lacks star power” is fucking dumb. Baxter was a budding star and the number 1 RB recruit in the country.  His loss was discussed nationally from the day it happened through the end of the year. Gibson was also highly rated and Wisner is now a known asset with anyone covering the sport or watching games. Just a fucking dumb take.

Expand

This is so ironic. You gave me shit for saying Texas will miss Baxter prior to the season. Told me  Choice has this, stop being a pussy. Paraphrasing, but that is the gist..

I was hoping to see Baxter take the next step in 2024. Brooks and Blue both went for over 6 yards a carry in 23, while Baxter was as at 4.78. He had that nice run vs Tech, where he showed some serious burst. Wish I saw more flashes but he was bagged up most of the season, so I will reserve any judgement. Health is a concern coming off surgery. He is a great blocker in pass pro. Gibson was a disaster fumbling and in blocking. I can’t remember any runs, where he really flashed. Wisner is a solid guy. Like him, but I don’t see a star there. He is a guy that didn’t start at RB as a HS senior. Last season was a year where RBs generally got the yards the play was blocked for and not much more. Players improve, but you usually see it early with RBs. I hope I am wrong, but I see more of a solid stable of RBs. Do you think there is a 1st-2nd round RB in there? I am excited to see Simon.

I'm so old I remember when the sports media's identified new trend was declining coach salaries due to having to share the pie with player NIL. All the way back to 3 weeks ago.

In non-Texas coaching news (but it does involve our next opponent), Chip Kelly is leaving Ohio State to go work as Pete Carroll’s offensive coordinator with the Las Vegas Raiders. I think that obviously means Jeremiah Smith needs to transfer to us in the spring.

Anyone have this? Bad news travels fast so im assuming if he accepted the Cowboys position we'd know already. Curious anyway though.

If the Cowboys poach Choice it’s an absolute career change for him because Jerry Jones is not coming close to Texas in salary. It’s outside of our control then.

He has a young baby. Possible he is considering the NFL, so he can have more time at home. That is the only reason I can imagine him entertaining a pay cut to go to that circus

Will Jerry even let the Cowboys have a running back on the roster in 2025? Who will choice coach?

I want to say the last Blasko rumor on pay was $400k.

He's probably asking every RB coach prospect, which RB he should draft in the first three rounds.
Gotta hope it'll finally be a priority this year.

Sounds like we are planning to plant a flag in Georgia, #WRTS?

I really like us going hard at Georgia. That state is absolutely loaded with talent, especially on the DL.  UGA program is starting to show some cracks, and we need to at least make them work for every elite guy in-state and will likely poach 1-2 each year.

Feels like regression to the mean for them. They caught lightning in a bottle with an NFL OC and a quarterback who was in college for most of his adult life. Now they got Mike Bobo and a 21-year-old QB.

SIAP but I don't recall seeing any discussion of the new coach Texas hired from tOSU, LaAllan Clark. He grew up in Baton Rogue, coached at Southern before spending 2 years in Columbus. He coaches a few pros during the off-season and will be able to visit recruits and should boost Texas' recruiting efforts, particularly in SW LA. per G Hamilton.

Here's what SI's ai says:

  Quote

Clark, just wrapped up his fifth year coaching, and second in Columbus. He started his coaching career at Prairie View A&M. Before he moved to Southern University, where he spent 2022 as their defensive ends coach. Yet, that is not the only experience Clark possesses as a coach. In addition to his work in the college ranks, he has worked with current NFL pass rushers like Ed Oliver, Jeffrey Simmons, and Danielle Hunter via his work as the CEO of LC Performance.
