This one will be interesting because we are now remaking the entire secondary set of coaches... Wish we would have earlier and sent about this whole thing as a package deal.

from what Anwar was saying.. this thing was not a secret over the past couple of weeks.  Joseph seemed really interested going to the NFL..he's been passed over on promotions in CFB as far as making him a DC somewhere.. so the NFL was something he was open to.

I'm pretty sure Sark already has someone in mind for a replacement with the safties.

The long period of "watch for Joseph leaving," then the out-of-the-blue promotion immediately followed by him leaving for a job with the same title has me wondering if the promotion last week was a favor by Sark.

Maybe I'm an optimist.

I think this will be the easiest departure to replace this offseason. Joseph was okay, but I think there were a lot of other factors that helped turn around the pass defense. I always heard he wasn't anything special as a recruiter. I think his Louisiana ties got overblown a lot.

Losing both secondary coaches is not ideal. There may be some growing pains.

One thing we can't really account for is Nansen's input and impact on the backend. Gerry always talks about how the open practices for the media he attended, it was Nansen who was doing a lot of coaching and aligning of the secondary.

He didn’t actually get a promotion. It was bad reporting by the 995er.  The only change in his title was switching him from CBs coach to Safeties coach. All the other titles stayed the same.

So Sark replaced him at CBs coach weeks ago, and Terry was like a month away from his contract expiring. I doubt this move was much of a surprise or hit to Sark.

If I recall correctly, Joseph was final remaining assistant who was hired as sort of an arranged marriage with PK.

I never quite got the hire, and it drove me crazy watching our DBs do nothing but face guard for Sark's first couple of years. Joseph was a quality recruiter, but I was never enamored with his coaching.

The real question is who would want to come here now that Sark has completely lost control of the team.

yea what a fucking moron. Idk why he hires good coaches anyway, all they do is leave for better jobs. Smh dummy

Other than the obvious choices, like Akina, who is a likely replacement?

Mike Mickens already did the "staying home" tweet.

Oh thank god, I was worried we’d have to wait hours for the “what about Akina” post

Just some names.

Carrington on the list.

I could see Sark looking at Chris Collins (UK). Wilson just took a job at his alma mater (Florida), so cross him off

Why would we hire a British coach???  They play a completely different type of football there.

Pretty sure Saban's chewing out Jimmy Sexton for letting Akina enter the chat first.

(Meanwhile, Nick can probably collect a referral bonus on whoever we do hire)

We will spend the next week talking about Jerry Gray and Duane Akina before Sarkisian finalizes the hire of Alcorn State's DB coach out of nowhere.

That seems more Sark's m.o. Young guy with ties to Southern recruiting ground or Cali.

Grady Brown is interesting. He was considered an up and coming NFL guy and then the Steelers decided to part ways. They had a lot of blown coverages late in the season.

IDK how true it is but my friend who is a big Steelers fans said secondary was their worst part of the defense the past few years.

Been some discussion that is why Orphey was hired. Sark wants to run more man coverage and press man. Texas was in the bottom quartile in man coverage. Rutgers has been in the top 20 in man/press man coverage the last few years. That tracks as Nansen seems to have been brought in to get away from 2 deep coverages. Texas was predominantly single high coverage for the first season under PK at Texas this past year.

I meant interesting in the sense the Brown was considered this rising star, he got DC interviews, and then suddenly he was let go. Apparently, a lot of communication issues between the 2nd and 3rd levels. Db and LB coach were both fired.

Funny, along these lines there was never a Bieniemy for RB Coach moment...

I think this is key and nice to hear if true.  A main difference between Sark as OC at Bama and his offenses here have been the difference in defenses.  Saban even said it during the playoffs that Texas would have to play some man at some point.  PK has been a "bend but don't break" DC.  Saban teams were not and it seemed like the Bama offense got a couple of more bites at the apple than at Texas during a game.

Come on, at least Park Gothic is trolling.

It's when Bevo shows up and wants to talk about the time he and Akina, who used to be drinking buddies don'tyaknow, ended up half naked on someone's farm wrestling pigs, and Bevo knew then seeing how Akina kept that pig in front of him that he wasn an elite DB coach, and he should be welcome back in Texas at any time becuase Bevo believes in Affirmative Action for olds like himself.

I don’t know Alina, but I do know Les Koenning, Jr. and his dad.

It was a role switch, not a promotion. He already held the title of defensive pass game coordinator. The only modification was being over the safety room instead of the CB.

The fact that there wasn't a mention of a contract extension/raise with the role modification should have raised eyebrows since he was not extended last year when others were and his old deal was set to expire in March iirc.

probably shouldnt hire a position coach that is older than Bobby Burton. We need some standard. Would love to have him as an analyst.
