Died in Woodstock.  Appropriately close to Big Pink.

As it should be. Sad he struggled so much at the end. Was a unique spirit in this world.

We all know that Woodstock isn’t close to where the Woodstock concert was held, right?

It’s about an hour and a half away.

Also, i will now Google the guy, because no one ‘splained-me who he was.

UPDATE:

Quote

Eric Garth Hudson CM (August 2, 1937 – January 21, 2025) was a Canadian multi-instrumentalist best known as the keyboardist and occasional saxophonist for the rock group the Band, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He was a principal architect of the group's sound and was described as "the most brilliant organist in the rock world"[1][2] by Keyboardmagazine. Hudson was the last living original member of the Band.[3]

Always loved the tidbit about how Garth was paid an extra ten bucks a week to teach music to his fellow band mates when he first joined the Hawks. I guess so he could tell his parents that his formal music education wasn't going to waste.

And that matters why, exactly?  He died in the town of Woodstock.  It's 7 miles from where most of The Band lived in West Saugerties while recording Music From Big Pink.
