I keep seeing that 4th down strip, scoop, 'n' score by Sawyer as a result of the RT (Williams, was it?) brainless "block" allowing Sawyer to blow right by him...

That one play makes me think the OL is likely not any worse for '25.

Thinking the mere threat of Arch's legs demanding defensive attention absolutely requires one defender not on a receiver or runner. This must certainly be a boost for our offense. Any play that sees Arch heading right instead of dropping back suddenly adds an "ohhhhhh, shit" moment to damn near every defender. One or two of those ZR or at least ZR-looking plays is gonna lay their D's wide open. A couple of Arch runs, a couple of pops, a couple of pitches... damn...

Profit. I see it coming.

That missed block was a result of Williams playing hurt. It just locked up on him there.

Its highly unlikely the OL is a better pass blocking unit, even with Cam and Banks playing hurt/banged up for the back-end of the season (which nobody likes to mention. still wondering Cam's injury, since he didnt compete at the combine). That said I do believe Arch will provide some relief.  I think he instantly upgrades pocket awareness and that has nothing to do with his athleticism. His mistakes will be more along the lines of doing too much. That may balance out the pass pro. Less self-sacks, but worse pass pro.

I do wish we had a spring game. I am really wondering, if we will see a dramatic change in the offense. The offense has been mostly horizontal the past few years. Run game has been predominantly OZ. Initially it was screen guys and let Bijan find a hole. RB room took a major hit from Bijan, but Texas has played with 2 NFL OTs the last 2 years. It made sense to run outside behind them. I think this year that may change. Interior is projected to be Neto, Hudson, and DJ. That is where all the experience/maturity is on the OL. I think it is highly likely that group is much better moving people. Highly unlikely to be as good as Conner and Jake in pass pro. OT is likely Goosby and Baker. Baker is a freshman, so no idea what he looks like. Goosby looks like a typical dancing bear at LT. He looks great in pass pro but run blocking hasn't been his thing and may never be his call card. I think that may lead to a bigger focus on rushing between the tackles.

Passing game will likely change. Texas was in the 90th percentile in usage rate on screens and swing routes in the country. The deep crosser and post routes are also staples (missing the post route was definitely a staple in 24). Texas had low usage rates of seams, outs, come backs, go, and curl routes. (tip of the hat to Babers on that information). It has been a heavy dose of short perimeter passing. I think that mix will be significantly different with Arch. He loves to throw deep and you know Sark is jonesing to bring back the vertical passing game. Sarks desire was on full display vs ULM, even he admitted in the post-game presser he called too many deep shots. Everyone knows where Quinn's ADOT was, I would bet a lot of money Arch is not going to be in near the bottom of the league in ADOT

Seemed to me like he looked at 0 first before turning to Sawyer.

If he can get outside the pocket, or step up into the pocket, he can extend a great many more series with his legs that QE never seemed to have the appetite to do.

i agree that the ‘25 offensive line probably won’t be a better pass blocking unit than ‘24. Kelvin Banks was about as good as it gets on the left side. Conner wasn’t a plus starter but he was surprisingly sound In pass sets. Majors was pretty solid in many aspects, he just lacked raw power. Campbell improved to serviceable. Cam when healthy was tough to beat, Georgia was the only team really able to get after him. As a unit they were pretty good, half their sacks were Quinn laying down after his first couple reads were taken away. I think the ‘25 line will look like a better pass blocking until because of teams opting for more contain rushing alignments and Arch avoiding pressure.

The mere fact that Manning brings a legitimate running threat to the QB position is going to improve pass blocking even with the losses to the pros.

This is a fact.

He had a few runs where he was left so unaccounted for that with all the receivers covered and all the rushers handled he "scrambled" for twenty or so. None of those were designed runs, though. Arch is going to have to be spied, and that opens up a receiver or a running back, every. single. play.

I'm still puzzled that we didn't put Arch in any time we got to the ten. Still, 13-3 ain't all that bad a season, and we were the only repeat final four, and we are seriously likely to do it again.

We should all be gruntled about our situation.

It’s never been openly publicized by staff or player, but I really think Arch was concussed after he ran for the 1st down. When TV was reviewing for a fumble, they should’ve called “Targeting” from the booth officials. Once Arch stood up he even staggered a little bit, as the hit to his helmet was behind his left ear hole. That will always be my opinion.

RZ 1st and 10 and he wasn’t even looking at going in, which I really think he should’ve been right next to Sark for his package of run or pass plays.

Not Having 2/5 linemen being unable to move people in run game is going to help a ton in the run game. Glad I never have to see Conner doing 360s and looking into the backfield as our RB is TFL.

He was 100% concussed. If you watch the ball on the slo-mo replay of the hit, it comes out as if he dropped it, and it comes out just before he hits the ground,  without being hit by the defender at all. It comes out because Arch's hand went limp, and Arch's hand went limp because he got knocked out.

It's possible it was a concussion but getting hit right behind the ear destroys balance and equilibrium.  Happens almost every MMA fight night.
When that happens, the fighter is pretty much in a daze for a few moments or longer.
That's not a concussion.

I don't know if getting hit in that area has the same effect when you're wearing a football helmet but I suspect it does!
