Wisner isn't slow and he can catch. We just need someone who can run inside the tackles.

Yeah, but I don’t feel like Wisner is running away from anyone. He’s definitely not gonna juke them out of their jock.

Some notes from day one:

- The QB room is loaded.

Arch Manning has a chance to be a special player. His arm strength, footwork and ball placement are all well ahead of normal would-be first-year starting QB.

Trey Owens continues to impress with his arm strength and relative accuracy.

KJ Lacy is a departure from the other two. He’s significantly smaller, but moves smoother and is extremely accurate for his age. Really liked the way he looked from a timing perspective. The college game didn’t seem too fast for him out of the gate.

- Tre Wisner has switched to jersey no. 5. He also looks like he’s added a little weight to his frame, even from two months ago.

- Christian Clark participated in early drills. He looked quick and decisive. It’s hard to believe he’s less than nine months out from an Achilles tear. With Clark, I can see why Tashard Choice felt like the Horns would not need to go to the portal.

- Parker Livingstone is legit. I’m not saying he’s the next big-time receiver at Texas. But I’m saying he’s going to make his way into the rotation somehow. He’s a player and he’ll be ready this year IMO.

- Good luck covering Ryan Wingo. You’ll have to play a safety over the top, be extremely fast or unbelievably physical to win against him. Otherwise, he’s going to get open somehow.

- I mentioned this on the show with CJ Vogel. The young receiver group is talented. However, if I’m basing what I saw on day one alone, I’d venture that the secondary that Texas signed will be as good or better than those wide receivers as a group. Those are going to be some serious battles in the years to come.

- I think Texas will be more than fine at DT this year. They hit the portal pretty well and Alex January has come on some more. Texas probably needs one more DT in the portal. But I like what I saw overall.

Excited to see Alex January has “come on some more” in the 1 practice in shorts and a helmet

Jonah Williams up to bat in the bottom of the 7th for his first collegiate appearance.

Update: struck out swinging. Had a chance to walk-off since Texas is up 12-3 and had a runner on third. Would have been a nice story.

Lmao at lamenting the loss of Blue. You don’t need a burner at RB, it’s a plus and a nice gadget to have but getting yardage between the tackles consistently and not fumbling the last 2 years probably has us in the #natty twice.

I'll spare the clips of Wisner's drops against Georgia, Vandy and A&M, and just say that catching is a skill that can be improved with practice. But denying that he's slow is silly, he was run down from behind against blOU and Arky multiple times. The difference in speed between him and Blue (who scored our only touchdowns) in the Ohio State game was very obvious. He doesn't have top-end speed, which is fine when you're a phenom like Bijan Robinson or Emmitt Smith but limits his versatility otherwise.

'Weapons grade level retard" is hilarious coming from someone who is apparently oblivious to the fact that Blue led all our backs with 5.4 ypc and eight rushing touchdowns. Our entire combined RB room scored 24 touchdowns last year, and Blue was responsible for 14 of them.

Blue was usually useless in-between the tackles due to his fumbling issues but he had six touchdowns and nine yards per reception just running routes out of the backfield last year, including multiple touchdowns against Ohio State and Georgia when our O-line was getting manhandled. Our RB room cannot replace that this year. Wisner churned out yards when our O-line could dominate defenses and give him holes. When our line couldn't do that (Georgia, Ohio State, ASU, Arky) he vanished. And now our O-line replaces 4 of 5 starters.

I like you as a poster, even with your negativity, but pointing out just 3 games here he dropped the ball (Let's take UGA out of this), that doesn't mean he can't catch or he's slow. Our WR's are faster. They're not X, but these dudes can haul. Maybe wait and see if we take a RB/WR out of the portal. I doubt with RB since Clark has come on after his superman healing. We aren't depleted of speed, not even close.

It's fine to be negative, but man, you gotta see the good. It's easy to nitpick, but no one is going to have a Jaydon Blue on their roster. What we need is our RB's to run through tackles, which what this line is built to do. Have some faith and chill the negativity.

Are you telling me CTJ was wrong again and that Jagger McJaggerson is a top standout? This can't be true. CTJ is never wrong. I'm confused.

We can all rejoice that Max Merril is no longer on the roster (@closetojumping)

The roster is at 81, so plenty of room for more transfers.

What are the biggest remaining needs, a PK to replace Sideshow?  Another rotational DT?  Another starting WR to go with Wingo and Moore?

What a huge difference in the number of scholarships occupied by JAGs compared to a few years ago.

Considering that's all he got, we can't really make an assumption on what he can do against P4 competition, can we? Remember how Michael Taaffe sucked until he didn't and finally for a scholarship?

Taafe had the athletic tools when he stepped on campus (decent height, ideal frame, long arms, speed), he just lacked the technical skill, mental refinement, and physical training that eventually made him a great player. Page has no tools at all. He’s making the most of what he has which is respectable, but not good enough to be playing at all for a P4 school. Give him a carry on senior day and an ovation and send him along.

Dude has speed, but I get what you're saying. However, you also mention Taaffe had the mental tools, lacked technical skill, needed mental refinement, and physical training.

Page is 6-0" 212, so it's not like he's 5-6" like Darren Sproles (whom I'm not comparing skills, just making a point). Taaffe only got playing time against scrubs before he finally got his scholarship.

Some of you fuckers need to stop whining and feel comfort in this staff's evaluation and coaching process. Enjoy what is happening right now with this program. They are recruiting players they want and developing them as well. Sark has been excellent at filling holes in the roster. I get it, there has been a lot of PTSD over the last 15 years as a Texas fan. But for fuck's sake, we are rolling right now, and the Arch era is upon us.

If they hit the Spring portal at certain positions, great! We obviously needed some help. If they love the WR and RB corp or any other position as-is, then we should pumped and confident they will tear up our opponents this year.

If that happened this would be a boring site and 80% of the traffic would disappear overnight.

It does seem like you found Jesus recently or should I say Jesus Manning, because I believe there is thread here that you questioned the the staff on a daily basis during the season.

Lol. I didn’t play football past 9th grade but I was still similar size to Page, minus 1 inch and like 20 pounds. I was always athletic and still am pretty fucking strong. He’s smoking me in a foot race but yes I could take a handoff, hit the hole I’m supposed to and get a few yards like he does. That’s not some insane feat.

Yes, I don't think Ewers was very good. Feel much better about our offense moving forward.

Wide receiver is a known weak spot but there hasn't been much talk about how mediocre the RB room currently is.

For all of Jaydon Blue's deficiencies, he was fast as hell and a vital backfield weapon last year. This year we have no speed at the RB position. Wisner and Gibson are slow and not good pass-catchers, Baxter and Clark are still recovering from significant injuries and the freshmen will take time to adjust to the speed of the game at the college level. Look at the touchdowns Blue scored against Clemson. None of the backs currently on our roster have the speed to score on those plays. Against Ohio State, Blue and Golden were our only two offensive skill players who had the speed to make an impact against Ohio State's defense.

We've become much slower at the skill positions overall this year.

Blue was more of a specialty player. He is going to get drafted due to his singular elite trait, his speed. He had drops and fumble issues, especially early. He did not have great contact balance or vision, both of which I believe are far more important than pure speed. They are even bigger vs quality defenses, because you dont get those big creases. These games are where the ability to make 1-2 extra yards consistently can keep an offense on schedule. I am on record saying I hope to see star emerge in the Backfield. I have seen more solid than star from the current RBs. I think the 25 offense will be more of a between the tackles run game. Quick feet, vision, and contact balance are the diving traits in that scenario. I do think there is enough speed in the RB room to beat LBs in the pass game.

Having Christian Clark back will bs huge against fOSU, and Manning will make them pay. We just gotta hope Gibson doesn't have the fumbles, and maybe (this is wish casting) that Baxter will be back against them. We also have James Simon who, imo, will be a good one, too.

In addition to a distinct lack of JAGs compared to a few years ago, it's also nice to see ages distributed evenly, especially on defense. We have a good mix of veterans, risers, and quality neophytes.

Just good goddamn healthy roster right there.

Being an extremely talented team pretty much across the board got us to two semis.
