In addition to a distinct lack of JAGs compared to a few years ago, it's also nice to see ages distributed evenly, especially on defense. We have a good mix of veterans, risers, and quality neophytes.

Just good goddamn healthy roster right there.

This is likely a transition year. Lot of talent but not much experience. The O line will take some time to gel, only 2 WR have caught a pass, and no viable option at TE.

I tend toward the glass half empty crowd. Im not @satyanash but I'm no sunshine pumper either.

Based on whats returning and incoming I think SEC champ game is a somewhat realistic goal barring bad injuries even with our fairly difficult schedule. Frankly, a goal of less than SEC champ game every year is sandbagging at this point. Given our NIL and money, there aren't any more excuses to aim lower.

National Championship dunno, but as the poster said above me, our D is going to be tops in the nation. We've got a young but undeniably super talented QB that is going to open up a lot more playbook pages for Sark. We've got incredibly fast and talented WRs, a very functional and experienced RB, and plenty of talent at OL/TE.

If with all that the staff can't put together a conference championship contender, they don't really deserve to be here.

All of the extra practices related to playoff rin should not be forgotten. Not game experience for sure but was equivalent of an extra spring training session.

Add in fact that nearly every incoming freshman is already on campus and several were here even for parts of playoff practices and team is functionally ahead of where one would typically be based on their tenure.

Arch is good for an extra win or two imo. He has Sam's moxie in a superior athletic and talented body. He also has a far superior supporting cast than Sam ever had. He doesn't have a lot of experience at the receivers position but I felt like he had better chemistry with younger WRs when he got to play, perhaps because he practiced more with the 2's. I expect Wingo to have a monstrous year. I don't see this as a transition year at all.

ya know.....I am the biggest sunshine pumper on here....but I suggest you slow your roll about experienced and functional until we see how Baxter responds during fall camp. I hope...hope...hope he can return to form right away, but that was a damned serious injury.

Seriously, I hope you are right.

Bullshit reasoning. Almost every competitive program is going through major changes now that we have NIL and the portal.

We are loaded on both sides of the ball and our starting QB would have gone #1 in next month's NFL draft. Championship or bust for the next 2 years minimum.

I don't think there is a single team this season that returns pretty much everyone from the previous year similar to how Ohio St and Michigan did the prior two years. Seems like everyone heading into the season has question marks at various spots on their rosters/depth charts.

We've played 30 games including 4 playoff matchups in the last 2 years. We just signed the #1 recruiting class in the country and like 90% of them are already on campus and practicing. Every team in the country would trade for our starting QB.

I don't believe there is another program better positioned heading into 2025.

Fanduel has us +650, tied for 2nd with Oregon behind tOSU (+600). Unless we get some unlucky bounces, I like our chances.

No viable option at tight end? It’s amazing you can spend so much time following Texas football but still have no idea what the fuck you are talking about.

So, how many regular season wins are we looking at in this "transition year"?

In fairness, that is the one position that's screaming for a portal add. We don't have anyone at the position who has caught a pass in college.

Most of our tight ends start out that way.

But seriously having an above average guy used to college game speed and coaching on hand while the others get their feet wet would be a good thing for sure.

Maybe his elbow hit the keyboard and he meant to just type functional.

Mark Bowman coming in will solve all the problems.

Now imagine having Marcel Reed. Do you still think we make the semis? Or Connor Weigman? Yaah, I'd say Ewers helped us immensely.

The Ewers thread thinks Buechele would’ve had more success on this team….so yea they probably think those two spares would be fine also.

Lol. I didn’t play football past 9th grade but I was still similar size to Page, minus 1 inch and like 20 pounds. I was always athletic and still am pretty fucking strong. He’s smoking me in a foot race but yes I could take a handoff, hit the hole I’m supposed to and get a few yards like he does. That’s not some insane feat.

This is high comedy. Just outstanding work.

Every top team from last year replaces experience at key positions or is dealing with coaching changes. Whingeing about a transition year because our super talented tight end doesn’t have a lot of game experience is peak small dick energy.

We're 103rd in the country in returning production this year. That's worse than every SEC team other than Georgia (105th) and Ole Miss (113th).

For comparison, blOU is 10th in the country in returning production. A&M is 6th, and Florida is 18th.

This reminds me of all the preseason publications that hype up Team X returning 19 of 22 starters and hyping them for it while failing to mention that 19 of those 22 guys were only good enough to go 6-7.

Well, it's good to know Georgia is going to be terrible this season.

Defense should be solid again. I look forward to seeing them drop the hammer on Oklahoma again. With Arch, our offense might even score 50+ in the RRS this year. Fingers crossed.

Also, any news on CJ Baxter?

Don't expect to hear much until summer/call camp on Baxter. His injury was worse than Clark's.

The wild card here is Arch as he is going to be a massive upgrade over Quinn who has held us back the last couple of years. His escapability can make up for the deficiencies and lack of cohesion on the OL. Unclear if Neto, Hutson, and Campbell will be false start machines.

As for TE it looks like a bunch of JAGs with Washington, Randle, and Shannon - none of whom have ever caught a pass at the college level. Might be better off running more 4 and 5 WR sets with French and Lockett.

Posted

We expect Arch to be an upgrade over Quinn in general, but what if he’s more turnover prone in his first year as a starter than Quinn? I think he’ll be better overall than 2024 Quinn.

Some growing pains will likely happen.

I expect Arch to light up Ohio State, sparking a media frenzy, then he’ll come back down to earth by the middle of the season. I hope he regains momentum by the end of the season to give us a strong shot at the playoffs, if not making a deep run in them.

The defense will almost certainly be the strength of our team again this year.

I expect some growing pains. That probably applies to multiple areas of the team. My biggest fear is dropping a game early as the team is finding itself. The turnover thing is interesting. Normally it would be ridiculous to think a 1st time starter would have less turnovers than a 3 year starter in his last year, but Quinn had 17 in 14 games. He also had some really costly turnovers. I can see Arch having more of the 40 yards downfield type interceptions, which are not as costly.

Not sure the defense will be strength. I expect so reversion from them. I still think it is a good group, but I doubt they are in the argument for the best defense in the nation like last year. Would be nice to see Sark have his 1st top 10 offense at Texas, which I think is possible.

Which should alleviate some of the pressure on Arch. We don’t HAVE to score 50+ a game with this defense to win.

based on what, exactly?  what the services have written about him?  he hasn’t done anything yet and he was a low four-star.  nothing to warrant “super talented” other than you not knowing what you’re talking about.  but we knew that.
