RIP to the Roadtrip of the Century: FYRE FEST 2 Postponed

You can read about it here.

We’re not crying, you’re crying.

FYRE FEST 2 has been officially postponed. Yes, the Surly Horns beachy fever dream we were manifesting in Playa del Carmen has fizzled faster than a sparkler in a hurricane.

Our team was ready.
We were supposed to be rolling deep from Austin to Mexico in the Surly Horns Cybertruck, windows down, speakers up, living on a steady diet of road snacks and delusion. This was more than a music festival—it was a moment. A vibe. A questionable financial decision with a whole lot of Instagram potential.

And let’s not forget the most tragic cancellation of all: Bibi Hadid will NOT be joining us. We repeat, Bibi Hadid is OUT. Even worse, @immamac has informed me that she's not returning our deposit, but that’s a separate trauma we’re working through with our lawyer.

Playa del Carmen officials swear no permits had been issued. Do we believe them? Do we believe anyone anymore? TBD. The trust is broken, and so are our dreams of overpriced margaritas and sand in our shoes.

We know many of you were counting on our coverage of the chaos, and we were counting on a few unforgettable selfies in questionable outfits. But for now, all we can say is: stay tuned. We’ll be posting updates as we attempt to untangle the refund situation (pro tip: Venmo transactions labeled “concert vibez” apparently aren’t protected under buyer protection).

So here we are. Stuck in Austin. No beach. No lineup. No Bibi. No festival. Just us, a Cybertruck with a full tank, and way too much canned rosé.

@South Austin, please go ahead and request Bibi's used panties. I hope it freaks her out.

This is consistent with all of my research.  Bibi Hadid has never returned my deposit.

Gotta think Agbo is transferring, right? Seems like a great teammate given the switch back and forth between OL and TE, but if he's trying to actually get snaps, it ain't gonna happen here.

Fuck man I don’t think anyone realizes how blessed we were at WR for these last two years.

No giant portal grabs and no experience there is going to take time, hopefully these guys gel with Arch quick.

Arch already has a connection with both Wingo and Moore.

Pretty excited about the blocking across the offense. Personnel on the OL to take a step forward in the run game, I think Endries could be an improvement on Helm there and Mosley/Wingo/Moore should be pretty stout. Goes without saying that Parker Livingstone is gonna be tossing fools around.

Really good portal day. Best TE in the portal.  Top kicker and a good DL.

they could still add a piece or two as well.

Can we get a good red zone play caller in the portal?

Today is the first day of practice in full pads for the Horns. The team gets going at 9am.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian will meet with the media immediately following practice.
**
After gathering intel from the first three days of practice, it’s clear that Arch Manning is stepping up.
The redshirt sophomore from New Orleans has been described as accurate, with the ball coming out quickly.
But perhaps the bigger piece overall is what one source told me more succinctly.
”He’s got a command of the offense, of how it’s supposed to run, the timing of it. He’s just impressive,” the source said.
**
Saturday’s practice was marked by the team going at it pretty heavily despite not being in full pads.
The team even worked inside run on Saturday. While some onlookers called out DJ Campbell’s performance and style of play, I’m told Neto Umeozulu has looked the part as a starter thus far into camp.
We’ll see if that continues, but it’s very likely that the guard-center-guard combo could be a different type of interior with a different strength than a year ago (or the past couple of years).
**
On Saturday, during team period, I’m told Parker Livingstone found the end zone a couple of times. He continues to have a breakthrough spring camp.
**
With Trey Moore working exclusively as an off-ball linebacker thus far into camp, it’s given more opportunity for Zina Umeozulu to step forward. Zina, like his brother, is earning positive comments behind the scenes.
**
If you’re looking for a breakout star on defense, Jelani McDonald could be the guy to watch.
McDonald has worked primarily at safety in camp and has looked more like an elder statesman than the relative newcomer he was a year ago.
**
If we get more elevated (i.e., brutalism) on our inside OL, I would love for us to run more inside zone.

I think they’re fine there but wouldn’t have it.  They really need an experienced returner and maybe a starting level DT now.

Dont like the idea of a fresh kid doing returns.

It’s a very young WR room. The Stanford kid helps, but they don’t have true No. 1. Moore might get there and he’s a junior, but I’d like some insurance. It’s a national championship roster.

We just lost to a team with 3 first round WR’s. That should be the goal.

I feel like wingo and Moore will end up being that.  They got some studs behind them too

So what you really mean is you want a Jr/Sr guy to step in and be the top guy right now?

Yeah a junior speedster/complete WR with 1500 yards and 10 TDs would be what I was looking for. Singleton Jr have been ideal, but I’d imagine he only considered Auburn.

I feel like one of these guys could do that. Or maybe they just have 3-4 700-900 yard WRs plus a stud TE will make it all good.

id prefer arch not to have a guy to lock onto unless he shows it like golden did late.

The Texas football team is headed to the practice field literally as I type this.

This morning will be the 13th of 15 allotted practices this spring. The Horns will practice again on Thursday then finish up with a final practice Saturday morning.

On Saturday, Texas coaches and players will also take part in a fan participation event at the stadium following practice.

**

Here are some notes from the spring:

At QB, Arch Manning is the clear no. 1. Trey Owens is the clear no. 2.

Manning has been far from perfect. He’s had his ups and downs. However, the thing that keeps being recounted to us is that he is considered a team leader and he is commanding the offense. If there’s a bad series or a couple of bad plays, and even if it’s on the quarterback, he and the OL are the ones getting guys back together.

Growth as a leader has been a big part of his spring camp. Its Arch’s team now and he’s attempting to live up to that billing.

Tre Wisner remains RB1. That’s unsurprising. But he has “taken another step”, according to Steve Sarkisian. Wisner reminds me so much of Barryn Sorrell and his career trajectory. I get the feeling every 3-6 months when you see Wisner, he’s going to be just a little better than he was previously.

RB2 remains Jerrick Gibson. Gibson, at least thus far, has held off the returning Christian Clark. Freshman James Simon has turned heads at times. Fall camp will be big for Simon to see if he can unseat Gibson or Clark to get into the rotation more.

Parker Livingstone is the talk of camp at receiver. But what about the true freshmen? I am told last Thursday was not a great practice for the group. At least three different deep balls were catchable but went uncorralled. Aaron Butler has been a non-factor. I think the addition of Emmett Mosley V to this group is one of the more underrated moves of the spring portal.

At tight end, Spencer Shannon has been the clear no. 1. Shannon is a strong in-line blocker and considered a very heady player. That being said, the injury to Jordan Washington has exposed a real shortcoming. Emaree Winston has looked good catching the ball and in making some route adjustments on the fly. His physicality is solid for his age, but it’s still not quite where it needs to be for an every down player.

On the OL, the starting five have been the starting five almost all camp. Right tackle Brandon Baker and Andre Cojoe has really been the biggest “battle” of sorts. Cojoe actually rotates in with the 1s every so often, the only OL to actually do so among the group of five. Nate Kibble, Jaydon Chatman, Connor Robertson, Nick Brooks and Cojoe are the second group.

I’ll write up more about the defense after this morning’s C&F.

Just think how much better Ryan Wingo is going to be now that he can actually see. I’m sure he’s still getting used to seeing objects that are past 5 feet. Once his eyes adjust, it’s game on.

hopefully one of our freshmen WRs will look like Dallas Wilson (2025 5 star from Florida who almost committed to Oregon)

This kid looks kinda athletic and might be a problem when we face them at the swamp this season

There's gotta be a "Tell Me About Florida" thread for this garbage.

I would be disturbed if any receiver, let alone a true freshman, generated 200 yards in a spring game against something that is supposed to resemble a defense.
