Am I reading this right? We stand in line for 2 hours before the autographs start?

I guess it would be fun for kids? I was hoping they might have something that loosely approximates football, like a skills challenge or something.

Further, for kids under 12 (my family falls in this category), it looks like you choose to either stand in line for two hours for autographs or do the on-field stuff. Sophie’s choice shit right there.

Fuck. Yes.

Got a few team issued shirts, pants and shorts in big boy size for $10 a piece. They also sell shoes/ sandals and those hideous black/ white/ burnt orange practice jerseys from more than a decade ago, if you're into that sorta thing.

Back in the summer of 2005, my dad, my brother, my nephew, and I waited 6 hours in line to get team autographs after practice. We were all pretty sure we were winning the national championship though, so... very worth it.

Deal. Although I prefer half mango/half peach for my snow cone, should I win.

The correct nomenclature is "shave ice," you sad hapless rubes. And the correct flavor is POG (passion - orange - guava).

They’re different. The biggest difference being that snow cones are much shittier.

I thought there would at least be an open practice for fans to watch. Guess not!

Who makes “orange” a conscious choice when there are so many other options? Is “grape” also a big one for you? Regular Jolly Ranchers only for you, I’m guessing.

Breaking Down Nuggets from Saturday's Practice

Practice No. 9 is in the books for the Longhorns. There was a live portion of practice which featured multiple live possessions for the first, second and third teams.

All in all, it sounds like the defense held a slight edge over the offense on Saturday.

Some notes:

***

Offense

• It was a very solid day for Arch Manning. That continues to be the theme for the Texas quarterback.

One of the first words I got back about QB Trey Owens was actually about his legs. I wasn't told specifically if it was a read keeper or a scramble, but the word I got back is Owens got loose for about a 10-yard run very early on in the live session. Perhaps an underrated piece of his game.

For freshman QB KJ Lacey, the youngster had some bright moments getting the ball out quick. He was under pressure a good bit, but there was

• Arch found freshman WR Daylan McCutcheon on a quick hitch over the middle that resulted in the early enrollee showing some wiggle after the catch for a nice gain. McCutcheon was singled out by several recruits as well after the practice, including Norman (Ok.) WR Mason James.

• Despite being low on tight end bodies, Texas was still deploying some 12 personnel – Spencer Shannon and Emaree Winston were the two on the field together.

• First Team OL

LT – Trevor Goosby

LG – Neto Umeozulu

C – Cole Hutson

RG – DJ Campbell

RT – Brandon Baker

Second Team OL

LT – Nick Brooks

LG – Nate Kibble

C – Connor Robertson

RG – Jaydon Chatman

RT – Andre Cojoe

Third Team OL

Connor Stroh and Jackson Christian manned the guard positions. Daniel Cruz was at center.

***

Defense

• I am told the Texas front seven had a strong showing in short-yardage situations. They weren't perfect, but the defensive front had solid resistance against the first team offense, including a two-play stuffing to half a drive right outside the red zone. EDGE Ethan Burke had a great swim to help create a tackle for loss on one of those short-distance downs.

Transfer DL Travis Shaw and Hero Kanu each saw plenty of first team run next to Alex January.

One source indicated there was a concerted effort to bat balls at the line of scrimmage on Saturday. Whether instinctive of an emphasis of Kenny Baker, plenty of hands were in the lanes of quarterbacks. One play in particular from Ty'Anthony Smith forced a field goal on 3rd down.

• Freshman DL Justus Terry would have had a sack on KJ Lacey after beating a third-team guard. Terry was seeing time at 3-tech during the scrimmage, and despite weighing just 265 pounds, he was able to hold his own. There was also some snaps off the edge as well.

• Second year CB Kobe Black was singled out after practice as someone that had a very solid day. Texas is continuing to find the ultimate pairing with Malik Muhammad on one side of the ball. Both Black and Jaylon Guilbeau are seeing the majority split of one reps.

• LB/EDGE Trey Moore is getting snaps at both positions listed. More second team backer reps, but some first team edge run on Saturday.

• One name that was caught the attention of an onlooker was senior walk-on LB Marshall Landwehr.

• Also, first kicker onto the field for a field goal during the live sessions was Bert Auburn. -- I don't like going into the season with this guy

If you didn't catch Jeff and CJ's post-scrimmage report yesterday afternoon, you missed some interesting news.

Derrick Williams, Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore all suited out and participated to some degree.

It was especially encouraging to see Williams back on the field given his return from ACL surgery during the season.

It should be mentioned that none of the players were "full go" but they were dressed out.

Additionally, Zina Umeozulu is sidelined still with the thumb injury that is still healing from surgery. He's dressed out but can't go through all drills or scrimmage.

**

Offensive lineman Nick Brooks was ranked by industry experts as the No. 17 pledge among a class of 25 prospects in the Texas 2025 recruiting class.

Based on everything we're hearing, you can throw that ranking out the window. Brooks has been a consistent, high-level performer from day one of spring camp.

I asked someone what makes the true freshman from Georgia so different and the response was straight-forward. "You watch him and it's obvious. He's huge. Naturally powerful. A surprising mover. And he practices right."

**

Arch Manning continues to have a strong spring, according to multiple sources.

But overall the offense has been up and down, which is to be expected. After all, it's not like the Texas defense is Swiss cheese.

We continue to be told that Manning is pushing the ball downfield and over the middle on a consistent basis. Parker Livingstone and Daylan McCutcheon have been the receivers most relied upon at this point.

Trey Owens, we're told, also had a good scrimmage yesterday.

**

As CJ and Jeff reported yesterday, it's hard to talk with someone about Texas football and not hear the name of Colin Simmons after folks watch a Longhorn practice, especially those who are visiting, like recruits, parents or high school coaches.

Word of caution to opponents: do not expect a sophomore slump from Simmons. He's only getting better from what we've been told.

I guess Shaw's knee is OK after what was reported last week.

DT with busted knee still holding against our run game?  Doom

In a previous mid-spring practice depth post Vogel projected Cruz as the #2 center instead of Robertson. Perhaps he expects Cruz to eventually displace Robinson or maybe Flood is giving them both run at the 2nd team center. Anyhoo, just keeping tabs.

or spring practice depth charts mean absolutely nothing at all.

If Tennessee was smart they'd be putting the full court press on Owens' family/agent.

Can’t transfer to a sec school or take transfers from a sec school without sitting out a year.

That rule falls apart about 3 weeks after the first player challenges it in court.

Gotta think Agbo is transferring, right? Seems like a great teammate given the switch back and forth between OL and TE, but if he's trying to actually get snaps, it ain't gonna happen here.
