Kent and Mark are finally healthy which helps a lot.

On the flip side, I think the Weaver injury actually helped us. Weaver is zero offensive threat and takes too many risks defensively. I love his hustle but we are better giving his minutes to other players.

I mean, we were down 22 points and needed aggy to go pretty damn cold.  Weaver is a plus.  I do agree though that if Kent and Mark can get going though it gives us more size which we need desperately.

It's tl;dr, so I'll bold the best parts.  This is the first post on their game thread.

It's either in Buzz's office, Jamie Morrison's office, or somewhere between University and Harvey Mitchell, but I know for certain the Lone Star Showdown Cup is not in the Moody Center! As most are aware, our fighting Texas A&M Aggies took down those hippies 80-60 in College Station early January after a 20 point domination in the second half. tu in front of their home crowd, will look to avenge that embarrassing loss while Buzz and co will look to hand them another beating and continue to fight for a top 3/4 seed.

For those who don't follow during the week or are just hanging around just for the in state rivalry. Texas A&M traveled to Ole Miss a few days ago and handed a highly ranked Ole Miss squad a devastating loss at the final seconds. Ole Miss led the entire game, but after some stellar defensive plays by Soloman Washington, and Ole Miss goal tend on a Zhuric Phelps basket, a missed free throw, and Phelps kick out pass to Manny Obaseki, the Aggies took their first lead of the game with less than 15 seconds after an Obaseki 3 to make it 63-62. After a joyful evening, the Brads and Chads of Ole Miss hung their head low in disbelief as they walked back to their frat houses while the Aggies jumped for glee (even if many had to wake up and find out the score after turning the game off)

However, tu has had a gauntlet of a schedule after playing women's schools and rec teams in non conference. They are 2-4 in SEC play with their wins coming against Oklahoma and Mizzou. Granted they have faced a tough stretch of opponents to start sec play, but I mean at this point who hasn't. They played Tennessee close and had a thriller comeback fall short after being dominated by Auburn most of the game. But they suffered 20+ point losses to us and Florida. They'll be looking for revenge, but we learned their style did not match up well against us. Their only way to victory will be to shoot lights out at home.

Last time out, their future lottery pick #20 Tre Johnson had a rough going 2-13. He's still averaging over 18 a game. Lately, their forward Arthur Kaluma has been playing well averaging 13 and 8. He is a great player who can drive to the basket and shoot. They also have Jordan Pope and Tramon Mark who are capable of knocking down 3's. They don't have a strong presence inside, their center Kadin Shedrick took only 1 attempt last game. Tu ran their entire offense from behind the 3 or took highly contested shots.

On our side, we really took the game over when we did a better job of closing out on their 3 point attempts and forcing them late into the shot clock. On offense, Payne established himself in the paint with no one in orange having an answer for him. Phelps did a great job of getting to the paint and went on a huge run to break the game open early in the 2nd half. In case you forgot, in that game we shot 2-19 from 3. Our outside shooting has looked a little better since then so hopefully we can get that going. Wade Taylor IV was a little gimpy late in that first game, he was 4-12 and 1-7 from deep. He also didn't have the best game against Ole Miss. We should expect a better game from IV. We saw vintage March Manny Obaseki, so let's see if a game like that was great for his mental state.

A&M hasn't won in Austin since 2002. Maybe the drum, Frank Erwin Center was just plain ole bad luck. It's time we make the Moody Center our home and we head down to Austin to beat those weirdos in orange. We have a very senior laden group and this will be the last time they play in a rivalry like this, why not get a big road win against tu. Let's paint that arena Maroon, let's watch Wade, Zhu, Hef, Mo, Carter, and Wilcher light it up from 3 while Payne, Henry, Solo, and Andy own the paint, and let's BTHO tu yet again.

Weaver was almost unplayable in his 2 SEC games (A&M and Auburn). Granted, it wasn't many minutes but Terry limited his minutes against Auburn for a reason.

Kent has 1 rebound, but damn if it wasn't key as it was offensive and led to 2 FTs.

Really missed Kaluma on the boards. The guards need to help pick up the slack. 8 total rebounds is shitty effort.

Larry with 6 AST and 0 TOs.

This was just a mismatch on the boards with no Kaluma.

aggy is arguably the best offensive rebounding team in the country.

We have too many guards. Pope, Larry, Johnson, and Mark should be the rotation. Weaver should be used in emergency break glass going forward. Then you have more than enough depth at 4-5 with Kaluma, Shedrick, Kent, Onyema. With Pryor and Codie getting 2-3 minutes a half in case of foul trouble.

Larry had a 6/0 game with 3 rebounds and the key block on Taylor to give Texas a chance to win it. Weaver just can't deliver that kind of line when you also consider he's horrible at the FT line.

No need to check it. Here are my top two post guesses:

1) "Can't beat sips and the refs!"

2) "Hope all y'all who wanted to play them again are happy! We warned you!"

3) which one of you motherfuckers bought all the goddamn sheep lube at tractor supply

I bet the commentators won't be starting the next aggy game talking about final four and 3-4 seed.

that was hilarious.  the shoot poorly(normally), can't make FT's but they are a final four team.  a big physical rebounding team in the first round is more likely to bounce them than they get to the final 4.

good bulll !

they could easily be a final four team

Nah, they rely too much on offensive rebounding and officials burying their whistles to win games, they are UH-lite. They shot 52.2% from BTA and had 18 offensive rebounds and lost the game because they sent us to the line 17 times.

They are a generic brand Houston, and Houston always runs into problems in the tournament when they face a team that can score 70-75+, or when they come across an officiating crew that won't let them play a football game.

At some point in a 6 game single elimination tournament you are going to have to outscore people and the safe bet is A&M will not be doing that.

100% agree. UH and aggy played a scrimmage this season, and UH beat the shit out of them.

UH so far this season is 6th in 3P% while aggy is 303rd.

They can't shoot which is their biggest issue. That's been the issue with Buzz since he's been at aggy. They are terrible from 3.

Their offense is really predicated on just putting their head down and praying for fouls. If refs swallow their whistle they will have trouble on any given night.

Playing good defense is important, but it is also an offensive sport. You have to be able to score. Even guys like Beard have evolved and let there be more offensive freedom in their system.

Absolutely ****ing horrible

And anyone telling people to calm down- **** the hell right off.

We should've swept TX easily. This is a terrible ****ty loss and fans can complain.

I absolutely HATE being in the same conference as those cock-suckers. We cannot match them in athletics.. If NIL wasn't doing enough to destroy my interest in college sports - having to play those **** bags in conference is doing the rest.

2002.

What a ****ing joke.

They seem to be taking the loss in stride.

Everyone can try and say Texas won because of the team or Terry or A&M choking, but it was none of those things. Every time I switched to the game, A&M would go up by 7-10, over and over.  So finally with A&M up by 7 with just over 2 minutes left, I turned it off.  I did it for the team and all of you.  You're welcome.

Thank you for your sacrifice.
