yeah, we look like a tournament team.

Outside of the Florida game, we've been right there with top 25 teams (Auburn, A&M, Tennessee, Missouri).

UF and first aggy blowout were on the road. Only 2 more ranked road games (OM next week and not again until MSST in March)

I think Ole Miss is one of the most overrated teams in the country. Currently down 8 to Missouri. Outside of Alabama, they've beaten a whole lot of meh to bad teams. I guess Louisville is a decent win too.

If they don't come back in the next 8 minutes against Missouri it's 3 straight losses for Ole Miss. We might get blown out but they are overrated as hell.

Ole Miss down 10 with 5 minutes to play. Will be their 3rd straight loss.

I hope we show up because they are so overrated. This is a game you can win on the road if you show up. They have nights where they simply can't score.

Beard is good for a few WTF losses during the regular season but he usually gets his team ready by the tourney. He has never been a great regular season coach like Self or Sampson.

It's always amusing how some posters try to spin the resumes of certain coaches.

Beard loses 3 games in a row and it's "ah that doesn't matter because his team will be ready by the tourney." It's been 5 years since Beard was out of the 1st weekend of the NCAA tournament where he was actually the coach.

I am not sure how it's a spin when it's a fact that he has had better tourney resume than his regular season record. I didn't say it doesn't bother me. I rather have someone like Self who wins both in the regular season and post-season but they are a rare breed. There are coaches like Beard and Izzo whose teams play better in the tourney.

He’s a top five coach according to a lot of posters.

Well, let's see what has happened in the last 5 years. He turned around a shitty culture inherited from Shaka and took the team to the tourney. Next year, he put together an amazing roster but got fired for personal behavior. The next year, he inherited one of the worst teams in the SEC and made them competitive. Yes, he is a horrible coach!

Nobody has said he's a terrible coach.

It's just funny how you spin everything positively for him. 3 losses in a row and to nobody's shock utee97 is in here talking about his NCAA tournament resume. It's even funnier in the context of Beard not advancing out of the first weekend in 5 years.

So let me ask you this. If Terry wins a game in the NCAA tournament this year and has 5 NCAA tournament wins in 3 years will you still want him fired? That's one of the most successful runs in our history based purely on NCAA tournament success. Ya know since Beard's NCAA tournament success matters so much and all.

Yes.

That's fair if you aren't a Chris Beard fanboy.

You can't endlessly argue that Chris Beard's tournament success is why he's a good coach and then want to fire the coach with one of the best NCAA tournament runs in our history over a 3 year period.

For the record, I don't think Terry is the right guy for the job. I just find Utee's hypocrisy to be funny.

Calm down Nancy. I compared them to show how some coaches are better in the tourney. I didn't say they are the same.

This is what we've come to with the Chris Beard fanboys.

Sweet 16 appearances: Izzo 15, Beard 2. The fact you think these 2 are comparable based on "some coaches being better in the tourney" is the type of stupidity that makes me laugh.

Took the team to a tourney?  Nah that’s not gonna do it.  In fact RT should be shown the door if we don’t get to the second round at the very least.  I guess you grade on a curve.

you think Chris is a top five coach.  Is that what you’re saying?

There was also the “tourney results don’t matter crowd”.  Chris is great in pre conference schedule, after that he’s no coach K.

for the record, this game changes nothing for me.  We likely finish sub 500 on conference and that’s not good enough.  I will still say cdc had to hire Rodney.  He was painted into a corner.

I’m not rooting for aggy ever though

Look at the past RT apologists coming out of the woodwork to trash Beard's coaching on a day when RT got lucky at home and Beard lost. You guys are funny. We are back baby!

Almost everybody in this thread thinks RT isn't the right guy for the job.

This is how you always deflect.

I don’t think this ends well for Rodney.  I have said Chris was painted into a corner and had to make the hire.  I also said Rodney took over for a wife bester, righted the ship and lead us to our best season in 15 years.

and while I think ole miss is doing fine overall, they’ve lost three straight conference games

Chris has had this game circled for three years.  Ole miss will be pumped

Probably so. This game likely comes down to who doesn't turn the ball over.

Ole Miss really isn't that elite at anything other than the fact they don't turn the ball over and they force turnovers. They've been winning games just by generating extra possessions off turnovers.

Was at the game.  What a blast....

- It's probably up thread but how long is Kaluma out for?  He's the "adult in the room" on this team.  We are just way better when he is on the floor.

- Loved that Larry got the block on #4.  #4 was talking shit all game and Larry shut him up.  Like that kid..

- That said, someone upthread questioned why he wasn't getting minutes.  It's because he is a liability on offense.  He is sophomore year Steve Wojo...  He can pass and defend, but won't dribble past the Wojo wall (as we used to call it (gulp) 30 years ago).  The next time Larry drives to the bucket will be the first time.

- Tre, like in the Tennessee game, was better than everyone else on the court.  Once he got loose a bit and figured things out.

8-10 gets us in.   I honestly want to move on from Terry and I hope there is a bit of realpolitik barring a Sweet 16 or better run to allow us to go get the next guy.  But I also want to make the tourney and we should be above the line with this game.  Win 5 of Arky 2x, OU, Vandy, SoCar, LSU, Georgia, Ms St., and/or pick up a win in one of the other games and we are in.

I don't think this is a bad thing.

Part of Weaver's issue is he tries to do too much off the dribble. Larry might not get to the rim often but he plays under control.

let’s stop acting like chris beard isn’t empirically one of the better coaches in the country just because you don’t like him. his career:

•took over #255 UALR (13-18) and in one year got them up to #51 (30-5) with a tourney win over #9 purdue

•took Texas Tech to the E8 in year two and the national title game in year 3

•built the Texas roster from nothing to a legit final four contender basically overnight, and with zero nba players

•took over one of the worst programs in major conference basketball (56-69, 23-49 in the four years prior to his hiring) and currently has ole miss 15-5 and ranked #21 in kenpom with wins over #8 alabama, #26 louisville, #40 UGA, and #52 arkansas. and that’s with a roster half as talented as ours, in year two.

the idea that anyone needs to twist or manufacture anything to say that chris beard is a great coach is simply untrue. he’s a top 10 coach in the country, possibly top 5. all he’s ever done is take over programs and skyrocket them forward overnight. hate him all you want that motherfucker can build a program and he can coach.
