On the right there are 3 dots you can hit to “show post”. Every once in a while I do. And usually am reminded why I put the dipshit on ignore.

(Oh and I saw this post because someone else quoted you). I’ll leave another neg because of all the wasted clicks

Thats a lie.  It wasn’t quoted when you reacted to it.

obsession noted.

Fuck this shit.  My company is looking to "retire" a bunch of people in the near future and although I'm probably not on the immediate chopping block I am close enough to retiring on my own terms that I don't have a lot of time to make up 401k losses.  Even if everything goes just peachy keen this time, I refuse to be on edge whenever King Dipshit decides he wants to fuck with stuff just for the hell of it.

The tariff wars, they have ended?

Dare you say, “Mission Accomplished “?

Perhaps it’s time for a military parade to celebrate the victory?  Generalissimo Trumpo is probably right in the middle of fitting his new uniform.

Next time then:

Ontario Premier Doug Ford said earlier Monday that he was ripping up a contract with Elon Musk’s Starlink internet service in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs on Canada.

Ford had also said he was also banning the sale of American booze and blocking American companies from provincial contracts.

“We have some good news today. We have temporarily averted tariffs that would have severely damaged our economy, giving time for more negotiation and time for cooler heads to prevail,” Ford said in a statement. “With the U.S. pausing tariffs, Ontario will also pause our retaliatory measures.”

What a master class of market manipulation that absolutely nobody saw coming. What some of you learned today with those swollen ankles and tears in your eyes, is that DJT has a greater pump fake than D.Wade and Paul Pierce. He literally taught Hakeem the Dream Shake. Buying opportunities for all today. Tariffs on Canda hurt lib states, no tariffs on Mexico cause it hurts Trump states.

Fuck it, I'm gonna leave it Canda. Their broke asses cant afford another vowel

That is simply not true. Our relationship with Canada will never be the same.

Well nothing practical happens. Obviously he inflicts massive political damage with little to show for it. Again much like last time.

Smoot-Hawley, Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act.

True story. Senator Smoot of Utah introduced a bill to give my great-great grandmother a pension for her husband’s role as a veteran of the Civil War.   He (my g-g-gf) obviously forgot to tell his wife something, as it turns out he deserted from the infantry, returned to Michigan, and then accepted a $ bonus to join the cavalry (record keeping was almost not existent, so he was successfully able to do this.  I visited the national archives and viewed his actual civil war enlistment records in Washington DC a decade ago).

He deserted again when the cavalry was called to duty in Tennessee.   He eventually joined the Mormon church and headed out to Idaho to Homestead.

Senator Smoot was not the smartest man.

There were actually quite a few Union soldiers who collected multiple signing bonuses this way. Even better if you could get paid by a rich man to serve in his place if he got drafted.

It's a good question.  On the surface I think it's a simple enough thought/fear that's easy to "envision" happening, but in reality what would actually have to happen across a significant number of states and across the 3 branches of federal government, is mind boggling.  I just don't think that's a risk for 2029.

This is like saying there’s no way a Nuclear Holocaust could have actually happened in 1983 because Stanislav Petrov was there to prevent it.

Tell me more Pangloss, about this, the best of all possible worlds.

Bounty jumper!

GG-Granddaddy Canecutter was a spy. Meaning probably more like a freelance scout. One day, up a tree with his horse tied up deeper in the woods, a Union patrol rode up and camped right below him. All night. He had to figure out how to pee silently against the tree, but he was a spy! Nobody saw him.

Next morning they rode off, and he no doubt climbed down and puked, shit, and went blind.

A while later he became a super-duper spy as in he vanished from the Confederate ranks as well. Stealthy, like. Climb your own damn trees, sir.
