Yeah but this program was always in place. It's not a new thing other than letting ICE go into schools and churches, something the Biden administration forbade ICE from previously doing. Biden didn't have cameras broadcasting deportations raids or members of Congress actively cheering along. Deportations were never higher than when Obama was in office, specifically because it was the only thing his administration and the Republican do nothing Congress could agree on. I don't feel like removing criminals should be that controversial. It's the collateral deportations of law-abiding (since they did the initial illegal act) undocumented people that's going to be a lot worse under Trump.

Border town latinos were heavily in the tank for Trump.  The propaganda worked.  Much of it on radio, which gets to a lot of these folks.  On any work site, you'll have radios blasting all damn day with this shit spewing almost constantly.  Unless construction has changed in the 25 years since I was last doing it...

Yeah but they're the "good ones".

Maybe. These guys are good at theater and noise. They could very well be staging ICE raids for the optics while making no real increase in average weekly arrests.

Maybe so.  But even that is hugely problematic.

It weakens our standing in the eyes of many of our partners around the world.

It scares field workers and construction workers into not showing up for work.  Our economy is about to get donkey fucked.

And it likely emboldens right wing shitheads around the country.  What are they capable of when they think the President is behind them and will pardon them?

Even in a best case scenario where this is all just for optics, it's really fucking bad.

And where does it go next??

I know it has already been in place but these kind of ticky points just don't help in terms of comparing numbers, especially in 1st week of new focus etc.

I can see this going deep especially if as noted above you have MAGA teachers ratting out kids/parents, co-workers ratting out one another and so on.

Trying to bust Trump boasting about numbers to me just isn't helpful. He lies about everything, water is wet.

That crossed my mind while considering @South Austin's post on page 1 because once it gets cemented into a percentage of people's brain's "Trump is better than the Democratic Party with immigration," then they can slow up while other bsc news takes center stage because those people wouldn't believe anything else. If the economy takes a nose dive, then trot out the propaganda and videos and it's all Biden's fault once more. Regardless, wouldn't the fear strategy also work to keep wages and costs low among the ones that remain? Accessing healthcare, etc comes with too much risk?

Hopefully, the political backlash comes sooner rather than later and the GOP suffers bigly losses in the midterms.

Then the Donald and Republicans will have to deal with Speaker Jeffries.

The Senate might be asking a little much, but you never know in politics. Republicans have a tendency to overreach and waste political capital by playing to the culture war.

Someone upthread questioned what Trump's big money donors were going to do when ICE comes for their workers. Well, I think you're getting warmer to answering that question: selective enforcement.

Aid: "Mr. President, we just got a call from a billionaire donor in Washington, Tom Macintosh, that his workers aren't showing up for work because they're scared of getting deported."

Diaper Don, marinating in his own fetid feces miasma: "Tell him he has nothing to worry about. A lot of people are saying we need the technology. I love the technology. We have the best technology. Look, tell him we won't go after the people with small hands."

Glancing up to his assistant, revealing orange grease-paint stains on his previously white collars, Julius Squeezer replies: "You're dumb. Stopping in mid-lumber-toward-the-loo, the Presidementia turns and shouts: "I don't care. Get them the hell outa here! They're VERMIN who are POISONING THE BLOOD OF OUR SOIL."

Aid: "Sir, Mr. Macintosh is offering to double his campaign donations and has pledged to bottle a new brand of sparkling cider in your honor: Donny Nappleseed's Sleepy Cider or Trumpelstiltskin's Liquid Gold."

Plopping down on his patinaed potty, the Plumpkin McPornhumper smirks and lets out a prolonged: "Aaaaaaahhhh, it's the shart of the deal."

Selective enforcement can be a thing, sure, but there's no such thing as selective believing, at least on the part of the immigrants in this scenario. And by that, I mean, sure, Trump can say behind closed doors he won't raid the chicken plant, or the hog farm, or the state of Florida, but what he can't do is go on TV and say "Listen, we're not going to target illegals that work in x, y, and z industry." So guess who isn't still going to show up for fucking work? Or guess who's going to get arrested in their homes instead of at work?

And another thing to consider is Trump is 82, and he's succesfully avoided jail. If he doesn't die in office, he's already safe, and that's if we don't "elect" him again for a third term. This guy doesn't need campaign donations anymore. He probably doesn't care about them. And what would someone do, try to report that they bribed Trump but he didn't follow through? He's untouchable at this point save the hand of another Luigi.

I won't get into too many details but Chicago will fight this shit to the fullest.  It won't be easy but I can guarantee you ICE agents won't feel comfortable around Chicago.  Of course, the politics are much more fucked in Texas so it will be more difficult.  But I'm sure there's good people down there that will band together to do their best.  It's still gonna be ugly, but it's not hopeless imo.

They tried to pop up in a Philly community over the weekend. Let's just say SS had to leave in a different van.

My brother, this has been the entire issue for the last 3 years. American's will NOT stop spending even when exacerbating inflation. We have zero impulse control and access to way too many and too much line of credit.

There will be less produced and thus less consumed. Better for the environment and climate. Unless you’re saying we can produce the same amount without illegal immigrants.

Posted the above ten days ago.

DoTard won't do anything to hurt his donors. Tyson food plants in Arky or where ever aren't going to get raided in any significant way. Elementary schools sure. Farm workers aren't going to school.

There are going to be lots of terrible stories of "collateral deportations" of non-criminal undocumented people who get swept up in raids. People who've been in this country for over a decade and are contributing members of society, have families with children who were born here, and have jobs that help the economy. We're going to hear about citizens who also get swept up because they don't have something that proves their citizenship on them or are accused of having fake citizenship documents.

But where do we draw the line?

I’m unemployed and can’t provide for my family. My child needs life saving surgery that I cannot afford. I have no other options, so I break into your house and steal your shit. If I’m caught, should I go to prison because my intentions were noble? I mean, I didn’t kill your family or anything. I just knowingly broke the law, and thus accepted the consequences, out of desperation.

Theres a fine line between law and compassion and understanding. It’s sad that children may be affected but the fault lies with the parents, who chose the life altering transgression in hopes they wouldn’t be caught breaking the well-advertised law. That’s why they hid in a truck instead of going to a border checkpoint to enter this country. The correct procedure is crystal clear.

Flame away guys. Logic is appreciated in your argument. It keeps us “racists” more honest.

Which part? All the doctors and computer program coders? Please, provide examples.

Or do you mean farmers and landscapers? So if I pay an extra $1 for eggs, and miss 30 minutes of college football now, I may have something left in social security, which I busted my ass to contribute for? Maybe even take care of that pesky inflation problem to make those few dollars I still own have value when I can’t work anymore as an American citizen?

Undocumented workers. That labor source is way too entrenched in the American economy to be disturbed in any meaningful way.

Coming to a non-white citizen near you.

https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/monroe-county-wrongful-arrest-immigration-hold-deportation/3311786/

Man claims he was wrongfully detained, almost deported despite being US citizen

A Florida man is suing the top cop in the Florida Keys, claiming the sheriff wrongly arrested him on a federal immigration hold.

Peter Sean Brown said he was three days away from being deported to Jamaica, even though he was born in Philadelphia.

He blames Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay.

“It was a very powerless situation,” Brown said outside the federal courthouse in downtown Miami. “As a citizen, you don’t think it is really possible, because that’s everything against what we are raised to believe that our country stands for."

The saga dates back to 2018 when Brown, who was on probation from a previous arrest, failed a drug test and reported to the Monroe County Jail on a probation violation. Brown assumed he would be quickly release, but was told by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office that he was going remain jailed after the office received an immigration detainer for him from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Brown learned he would be deported to Jamaica, a country he visited once on a cruise. Brown repeatedly asserted he was a U.S. citizen, born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, and claimed they had the "wrong guy" — claims that were ignored by jail officers.

A 19-page complaint against Monroe County jailers accuse staffers of mocking him, telling him in a Jamaican accent that "everything was gonna be alright." It also claims officer sang him the theme song to the TV show "The Fresh Prince of Belair" — which includes the lyrics "West Philadelphia born and raised." The complaint alleges officers told Brown that they didn't care about what evidence he had to prove his citizenship because if ICE wanted to deport him, "they would oblige."

After spending weeks in lock up, and with several appeals ignored, Brown was transferred to an ICE facility in Miami. It was there an immigration officer agreed to look at his birth certificate and realized he was a U.S. citizen.

“Clearly, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is responsible,” said AJ Hernandez Anderson with the Southern Poverty Law Center.

She’s representing Brown along with lawyers from the ACLU.

“They didn't do anything based on Mr. Brown’s statements and explanations that he was a U.S. citizen,” Hernandez Anderson said.

Ramsay’s attorney explained that local law enforcement agencies only need three immigration documents, including a warrant and a removal order, to hold an inmate on an ICE detainer.

“When you have those three things present….there is no law that requires you to investigate further,” attorney Andrew Jolly told the judge.

Jolly, who is representing Sheriff Ramsay, told the judge ICE had bad information and the sheriff had nothing to do with it.

Brown’s lawyer argued the sheriff didn’t take even one step to look into the misidentification, and holding him for ICE was a violation of the U.S. Constitution’s Fourth Amendment, protecting against unreasonable searches and seizures.

Brown said the third ICE agent he came in contact with listened to his story and started the ball rolling on clearing up the misidentification.

The matter came to a speedy end when a picture of Brown’s birth certificate was sent to ICE officials.

“I would never have thought that I was going to be three days from deportation to an area that I went to on a cruise once,” Brown said.
