Apparently, he’s an international student which means his NIL cap is just $10,000. In other words, NIL was not a factor in his decision. He’s here because he wants to play for Texas.

Is that seriously a rule?

Seems really odd, if so, that such a rule exists in the Wild Wild West world we are in.

It's not a college athletics rule. It's a federal rule regarding student visas.

It's come up before with high profile international students competing in college athletics. I have no idea how easy it is to get around. It feels naive to think no player in the US on a student visa has ever received improper benefits. But the consequences are different since it's not an NCAA rule or enforcement you're violating.

At some point I said I wish Texas was doing camps in the South Pacific to recruit Tongans/Samoans and in West Africa to recruit Nigeria/Ivory Coast.

I didn't take it the next step to think of creating a crossbreeding program. This is genius.

Brandon Collier/PPI have started doing camps in West Africa as well.

Yeah, the consequences are pretty severe and can affect their ability to move to a professional athlete visa or permanent residency in the future.  Especially right now.  You don't want to fuck around with violating the terms of your student visa and taking improper benefits / more than $10k for the next 4 years.

Texas Compliance has to be on top of this shit with any international athlete, of which we have quite a few in tennis, T&F, S&D and women's soccer.

It kind of makes this thumbnail from OB's hilarious

Ketchum is allegedly telling people that his NIL deal is $750k-$1M. Yet another example of Ketchum not only just spewing nonsense from his fat fucking mouth, but hurting Texas in doing so. Other boards have run with it. I’m sure it will come up in the locker room asap as well.

All it takes is one asshole coach at a rival program to report that shit and get Texas/Hero under investigation.

Fuck Ketch. He needs to go choke on a ham

Just like that rat faced bastard Chip Brown and his NIL deal for Ewers being $8M...all the rubes on Finebaum bought it hook, line and sinker.

Oftentimes it's not a matter of buying it. It's being able to give attribution to someone else. People often aren't interested in the truth of it. Look at war reporting when there's obvious made up numbers being thrown around. They'll toss the numbers out there anyway and say, "According to the Russian Defense ministry...blah blah blah."

There's no transparency in NIL. Ohio State is constantly being reported as having an NIL payroll of $20 million because that's what the athletic director said before the season. I've been told by some people in the space it was much closer to $25 million. But the $20 million is stated as fact because no one knows and they can attribute the number to someone.

Oh, and an obligatory fuck Chip Brown.

People involved with Texas One clearly talk to him as he sends out periodic messages that they need more donors etc.   So if those guys talk to him, why don't they tell his fat ass to STFU speculating about NIL numbers if he ever wants any inside info.

I’m not dumb enough to ask specifics on each players deal, but do you know if the 10k number for foreign students was a hurdle in this recruitment? I’m not financially savvy or really money literate to be honest but if that were the case couldn’t the student in question, not necessarily this one, just open a trust as it wouldn’t be earnings reported by him but by the trust? Sorry if this isn’t the appropriate thread or if I’m asking too much. I’m just very very curious about the ways Texas is able to get things to work the way we need it to with regards to NIL and you’re the poster with the loudest and usually most informed voice on the subject.

It’s too soon on this one for anyone indirectly involved to know anything. It sounds like NIL was irrelevant here due to the guy not wanting to lose his visa and such.

Beyond, the sausage-making is usually pretty fucking boring. Or just take comfort in that notion being somewhat true.

There are plenty of reasons to avoid getting into details on NIL. One big reason is that we do not fully understand the ramifications in the future for the work and fights happening today.

Appreciate the response, and I definitely understand the need for secrecy.

He’s German and can make sausage? Sounds like an NIL opportunity for Green’s in Zabcikville. Sign him up!

Zabcik is a Slavic word. He would be better off with Scholtzs or somewhere in Fredericksburg, New Braunfels, Greune, or the countless other German towns in central Texas.
