…Yes, Luka's injured now and AD has played more games this season, but the chances of AD making it through the Spring and into May healthy is infinitesimal.

And he's only missed FOUR GAMES this SEASON and is PUTTING UP 26/12 and 3.5 stocks.

I get the freak out but let's put some respeck on AD's name. He's been a top 10-12 guy in the league this season. I think @Slacks went a bit far but I'm curious to see how this trade ages. Weird shit happens sometimes.

Don't get me wrong - I hope the Mavs new owners and the FO are total dipshits.

AD is top ten this season but Lukas on a trajectory to be top 10 of all time.

This doesn't make sense.  There's gotta be something we don't know.  Health issue? Directive from Miriam adelson? You'd still start a bidding war though.

Must be something else.

He wasn't traded because he missed those games this year.  It only makes sense if the Dallas medical team sees something impacting his ability to play long term.

That fucking old broad didn't want to pay Luka and that's all it was.

They did some backroom deal with their friends at the Lakers so they could do it quickly and they didn't have to deal with the avalanche of criticism and backlash before making the deal.  It's the cowards way out.  It's the biggest chickenshits of all chickenshits.

Without knowing anything else, I fear Nico and the Adelsons have grossly miscalculated. Even if we win the championship this season, there will be a sizable portion of the fan base who won't care because Luka's not here. Trade Kyrie or gafford and it'll be even worse.

I don't know why he was traded but y'all need to quit acting like he's fucking John Stockton. The dude absolutely has a history of nagging injuries and poor fitness. He's made up for it by being incredible when he does play and he's had a couple nice playoff runs.

I'm still as confused as anyone but I'm going to keep the facts straight while discussing this.

You know they also said we didn't have to worry about them moving the team to Vegas when they bought it.

I now do not believe that either.  Congratulations Las Vegas on your new basketball franchise.  I'm sure your new arena will be awesome.

Just watched ESPN and some “Shams” guy, who is an NBA reporter for ESPN, said the following:

”This is the most stunning trade that I have ever been a part of.”

WTF?!?

Bro… you are NOT a part of this trade.

You are a reporter!

Try “This is the most stunning trade that I have ever covered.”

My dad was ann editor at the Dallas Morning News when JFK was assassinated. He was in charge of determining what the paper needed to cover in town and where to send the local reporters.  He was even at the banquet that JFK was in route to when the bullets went through JFK’s skull.

My dad never once said:

”JFK’s assassination was the most memorable one that I was ever a part of.”

He's taken Dallas to the WCF twice in three years. The first time he did it he was playing through a bum ankle and his starting four teammates were Dwight Powell, Reggie Bullock, Dorian Finney Smith, and a pre emergent Jalen Brunson.  The last time he did it was 8 months ago when he was playing on one leg.

He's been first team all-NBA the past five years. Despite missing time each season.

There's some facts.

You don't trade Luka because of those nagging injuries. Even if you're worried about his long term health you take calls from other teams.

He was Woj’s protege once upon a time. He also has no mastery or understanding of how to type in English that makes any sense. The writers on the website Defector occasionally write about his humorously bad tweets that are just word salad. Somehow he is still the guy everyone gives info to first.

Yes - he's been phenomenal this season and last. He's the only thing holding the Lakers together.

Which is what makes all of this even more bizarre.

He’s 31 and chronically injured. This trade is ridiculous. It will set the Mavs back a decade

This isn’t a deal you make based on this season

I am still just completely shocked at this trade. I am obviously in the minority here in being happy with it. This is just stupefying in how Dallas saw this as the trade to make without even inquiring any thoughts or proposals from other GM’s around the league first.

If this an injury based trade the lakers physicians will kill it. This is either some kind of bullshit nefarious collusion or straight up idiocy

It's not. No matter what ztejas says. At least, it's not based on his previous injury history.  What the Dallas doctors think about his future, who knows.  Since he's been in the NBA Luka has played in 72, 61, 66, 65, 66, and 70 games.  He's missed over half this season with most of it coming from the calf strain.

@Sbbruin is enjoying a nice vacation right now. I would imagine if he had heard about this trade on the ski slopes that he probably would have hit a tree.

One of my two best friends lives in Dallas and is a Lakers fan. He almost drove off the road when his wife told him what happened.

My other best friend is a life-long Mavs fan. I am a few hours behind him and he was asleep. I told him to check the texts I sent him when I finally got a hold of him. He looked at them and said “well glad that the Mavs decided to start over again. I’m going back to sleep and pretending this trade didn’t happen when I wake up.”

Y'all got your ass beat in one of the most unwatchable NBA Finals I've ever seen last season. That is a fact. And you weren't competitive against the Ws in 2022.

He sure as shit isn't going to be first-team All-NBA this season. That is a fact.

I'm not defending Dallas making the trade - I'm interested in examining it and discussing it.

I think the Mavs FO either didn't think he'd resign or weren't willing to resign him for the supermax.

Either way - he isn't Michael Jordan. The Lakers aren't going to do shit this season after this trade.  The Mavs weren't going to do shit before it.

The fallout from this is going to be incredibly interesting. That's about as much as I know right now.

I mean there are literally people reporting to the contrary.

Then again you already said that Mavs fans wouldn't celebrate the championship if the Mavs won this year.

I'm just enjoying the meltdown.

May have went down in a secret back room deal

Quotes from when they were buying the Mavs.  “I’ve been a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant in particular since I was young,” Matan Adelson said

'The Adelsons had a family suite at Staples Center in Los Angeles which they used frequently to watch Lakers games, the source said.'

This is the type of shit we are always worried about in our worthless fantasy leagues.  Here we are…

Lotta wrong in that post.

Not wanting to sign him to the supermax doesn't add up. We've spent the last five years mortgaging our future to build around him.  Less than 11 months ago we traded a first round pick for PJ Washington.  We got essentially the same return for reading Luka. That money will be paid to someone or multiple someones on your roster- you pay it to the generational superstar who is not only your team's cornerstone player but also the guy the majority of your fan base recognizes as the touchstone.

We weren't going to do anything this year? Luka is supposed to come back sometime in February. We were one of the favorites to make it to the WCF again.

You don’t start a bidding war if you are gifting the Lakers.  They had a suite at Lakers games for years and actually used the damn suite unlike most billionaires…

Adelsons trying to move the team to Vegas makes the most sense.  Bleed Dallas of assets, lose fans, ticket sales go down, "see mr. commissioner no one in DFW cares but we'd sell out every game in Vegas", move team, ...... profit.

That’s like…all the Mavs could get.

I know it was supposed to be secretive but open the bidding up to get a better deal.

How the Mavs not even get Lauri out of this?

the Mavs roaster don’t even work now. You can’t play AD and Lively/Gafford and PJ.

wTF?!?

And if this was some set up for Nico to ride off into the sunset to the lakers or somewhere else.

and if this leads to the owners moving the team to Vegas easier I’d hope they open investigations into the league.
