See my post after.  The threat to move is a bargaining chip w the politicians of Texas to get gambling done.  Politicians are morons representing…morons.

How does trading Luka facilitate legalized gambling in Texas? I’m failing to connect the dots here. Or how does trading Luka facilitate a team move to Vegas where gambling is legal? Help make this make sense.

You diminish fan support by tanking and then use that fact as impetus for ramping up the rhetoric about relocating the franchise to Vegas with a "but we might ya know reconsider that decision if you would think about legalizing gambling here"

Harrison said this trade was built over the last 3 weeks of conversation.   Crazy that he wouldnt try to shop to another team.   Even if you wanted AD just to try and up the offer and get more in the way of picks.

he's full of shit - he handed the lakers a superstar on a platter

fuck the adelsons

Guess this is what happens when you let a shoe exec run your sports team. Nico Harrison is an AD simp who had a relationship with him at Nike.

Also heard there was a little friction between Luka's "body team" and Mavs training staff. And I find it hilarious Luka employs a "body team." What do they do, nod and tell him it's okay to inhale Onion Rings and Mozzarella sticks and guzzle pitchers of Hefeweizen every night?

I want a body team now

The simplest explanation is that the Adelsons did not want to pay him.

my favorite part about these blockbuster deals is how talking heads LOVE telling us how much their phone blows up when something goes down. Ramona Shelburne &  Windhorst were on sportscenter earlier talking about how their phones were on fire from so many people asking them if it was true.

Yep, it may be a bad decision but its the only realistic conclusion.  All the conspiracy stuff is over the top.    The only real question is why didnt they shop him?

Which brings into question if not wanting to pay him is the "only realistic conclusion".

That doesn’t make any sense. Reducing fan support also reduces their political capital (ie public goodwill) and a shit ass franchise has way less leverage than a good one.

or why didn't the adelsons have any appreciation for the mav's history with the lakers?

i mean, if they are going to simply give him away why didn't they just give him to the bulls, celtics, knicks, 76ers?

the word conspiracy does not ring true to me as the description of what happened

more like collusion

Are you paying attention?  Since when does the "break shit to cause a crisis you already have a pre-determined solution for" playbook make any sense?

They either get the gambling in Texas they want, or they move the team to Vegas which is something they may want less but is a fine consolation win.  The only people who get hurt in that transaction are fans.

Nah, the lie is them not talking to him about the deal.   If they have been discussing the deal for 3 weeks there is no way in hell they hadnt talked to him and knew that is where he wanted to go.

Mark Cuban -- who once said he'd sooner divorce his wife than let Doncic go to another NBA franchise -- confirmed to WFAA that he wasn't involved in the call.

Agreed. Never underestimate the ability of people to believe what they want to believe…including message board posters.

i believe they didn't tell him or any of the parties to the deal

the story would have broken - there is no way a player doesn't tell his camp or leak it themselves

I'm thoroughly convinced now that the Adelsons are moving the team to Las Vegas instead of building a new arena here. But even with that, this trade makes no sense at all.

This doesn't make any sense though. Luka and a 40 year old LeBron is a bizarre pairing. They're already bad on defense.

This is isnt about this year or next.  Luka is now Laker for the next 10 years.

Luka is 25.  Let that sink in.  25 and one of the top players in the world.  Mavs trade him for a draft pick and a washed up center/role player.

AD is currently playing and averaging 26 and 12 and is one of the best defenders in the league. I get your general point, but no need to go crazy.

I like AD, but god damn, there are only two teams (Denver and San Antonio) in the league that wouldn't entertain a superstar swap for Luka.

okc has a billion picks and a ton of young talent. surely they could have offered a better package than that. they’re the one team that i’m not 100% certain would want to break things up even for luka, but i still have to imagine that if they did want him, the trade package would be absurd.

The number of people online blaming Cuban for this, not knowing that he is not involved in the day-to-day or decision-making is ridiculous.

If Cuban were in control, you would have had to pry Luka from his cold dead hands.

Expand

He a) is a total jackass buffoon, and b) knowingly ceded control when he brought the Adelsons in.

Y'all are underestimating how stupid they are. Adelsons said to Nico to trade him quickly and walla here you go.

Stupidity and greed. They see jettisoning Luka as a way to maximize profits. I hope it backfires spectacularly.
