I hate the end of these NASCAR races. This shit where they all drive bumper to bumper to bumper is terrible, and then, always with fewer than 10 laps to go we get the big wreck. Hate it.

Wouldn't be that way if there were seperation between the cars.  When the cars are pretty much tuned the same this is what happens.  60 car is some kinda fucked up.

Blaney and Busch got super fucked there

I pull for Blaney these days. I knew his grandfather when he was racing on dirt. He was a big help to me in my early writing career. Lou Blaney was one of the best. Ryan’s dad, Dave, and his uncle Dale, were fantastic Sprint Car drivers. Dave was very successful on the World of Outlaws tour. I knew Ryan, just a bit, when he was a kid. Always was nice.

Like Kyle Busch or not, he's right  about Logano.

Preece was fucking cleared for takeoff. Wow. That was not good. At all. A 3,300# car, looking like a leaf blowing in the wind.

I say it every year. It's stupid. Even the announcers admitted they knew what was coming.

Yeah, Busch was spot on.  So was Preece, I think that was him, who said after Busch, that they are getting close to someone not walking away from these types of wrecks.

Blaney’s uncle Dale was a hot shot basketball player at WVU. Ryan’s grandma could never understand that I, as a Pitt guy, would boo the shit out of him when we played WVU.

The Blaneys are part owners of Sharon Speedway just across the border into Ohio, one exit in off I-80

I would still much rather watch this than that boring ass parade that F1 is.

Hey you won't get any argument from me on what F1 has become. This isn't an F1 vs NASCAR thing for me (and probably not for PoD either, though I won't presume to speak for him). To me, both F1 and NASCAR are fucking it all up. F1 could be very exciting, with great racing. So could NASCAR. But not on the roads they're going down.

The plate races could just as easily be only 25 laps instead 200 and 266 or whatever the fuck Talladega is.

Este.

I've never especially cared for the plate races. That said, I think NASCAR is doing a slightly less bad job at managing the product than F1.

However, IndyCar has been spectacular lately, and the other two series aren't even close in my opinion.

Which is why I now prefer IMSA.

Yep. Sportscar racing in general, V8SC, and MotoGP are pretty, pretty, pretty good.

They know they aren’t going to get hurt so they just go full send. It’s ruined “plate” racing. I’ll give NASCAR credit for letting them race back to the flag though. Almost felt like the old days.

I agree with your general point, but I bet Ryan Preece would take exception to this mentality!

*to an extent - obviously, he's also the poster boy for your argument...

If nascar looking for ways to get more views.

They can’t. They’ve been bleeding viewers for almost 20 years, and no end in sight. They took what made them popular, watered it down, and here we are.

You’re probably not aware, some here are, but I used to have a hard card, and worked at least 30 races a year. Can’t stand to watch it now.

Maybe it was you, maybe it was someone else with an inside scoop, but I remember someone around here (or the old place) making a cryptic promise years ago to drop some juicy intel having to do with why Carl Edwards abruptly retired, but to the best of my recollection, it was never shared.

Can you (or whoever that was) please spill the beans? Or at least DM it to me if it's preferable not to leave it out in the open for whatever reason?

I was out before Carl was. I run into him around town once in a blue moon, which is always nice.

I miss a lot of the people, and have a ton of memories, but things change and people move on.

As far as the real reason he stepped down? Pretty much what’s out there. I haven’t pressed him (and wouldn’t) for details.

But it’s not difficult to put 2&2 together, ya know?

Looks like they're using the second cut-through & not the first. Probably don't want lap time comparisons to other series.

We are going out tmr. Am I crazy to try back ways to park in a free lot. I think N, f or t. I’ll bring cash for a private lot as well. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been out there so I’m sure things have changed. For F1 I used to always come in from the south on a back road and park in a private lot
